Operation
Battery exchange:
Open the battery compartment on the back of the tool and connect up a new 9V
battery (type 6LR 61). If the symbol 8.) appears in the display, you should
replace the battery as soon as possible.
Switching-on and detection:
The MetalliFinder Pro can detect metals up to a depth of 75 mm and also
localise live wires. For safety reasons, the AC voltage warning is always
active. The „Voltage (AC) found“ LED (b) lights up if a live line is located
within the measuring range.
Metal Search:
Press the ON/OFF button (d.) in order to activate Metal Search. When Metal
Search is activated, the symbol for the selected mode (2. – 4.) appears in the
display.
AC Search AC:
Press the ON/OFF button (d.) in order to activate AC Search. When AC Search is
activated, the AC symbol (1.) appears in the display.
Calibration:
Press the CAL (e.) button to automatically calibrate the tool in the selected
mode. The CAL (5.) symbol appears for about 2 secs. in the display. When
calibration has been successfully completed, the symbol READY (6.) is
displayed, if an error has occurred, this is indicated by the symbol ERROR
(7.).
- Tip 1: Calibration error: If calibration is unsuccessful, this is probably because the tool is located directly above an object of the kind being searched for. Move the device to a different position on the surface and try calibrating once more.
- Tip 2: Detection error: To avoid detection errors, the MetalliFinder should be kept in contact with the relevant surface throughout the detection process.
Switching-off:
Press the Set and ON/OFF buttons (c, d) simultaneously. The tool automatically
switches off about 2 minutes after the last search operation.
Scan modes:
A. Metal Search, Depth Measurement:
Metal Search offers three different detection modes which are optimised for
the different materials concerned. Select the desired mode using the set
button (c.).
Structural steel Iron pipes Copper pipes
Your selection is shown on the display by means of symbols (2) to (4).
After successful calibration, the depth display 9.) indicates as follows as
metal is approached:
Metal detection begins at a distance of about 75mm. The indicated value
lessens as the tool approaches further, until it is located directly above the
metal object. In this position, the distance to the metal object, i.e. the
depth, is displayed (e.g. about 25mm).
Tip 3: Localisation of metal:
Because of its high sensitivity, the MetalliFinder Pro can normally detect
objects in a broad radius beneath the relevant surface. If you want to
determine the actual centre of the hidden object, you must move the
MetalliFinder from both left and right towards the object.
- First of all, move the device across the surface until the Measuring centre LED (1) lights up briefly and an acoustic signal sounds once.
- Next, move the device in the other direction. When the device is above the target object, the LED (1) lights up continuously and a constant signal sounds.
The device now indicates the start and end of the target object.
Mark the positions on the left (L) and right (R) side of the object (depth
display (9) at smallest depth). The actual middle (M) of the object is halfway
between the two markings.
AC Search (AC):
This mode can be used to specifically locate live lines. Press the ON/OFF
button (d) to activate the mode; the AC symbol (1) appears on the display. As
soon as the device nears a live line, an acoustic signal sounds and the
Measuring centre LED (a) lights up. Continue to move the device until it stops
emitting visual and acoustic signals. Repeat the procedure from the other
side.
Mark the positions on the left (L) and right (R) side of the object where the
signal reaches maximum intensity. The actual middle (M) of the object is
halfway between the two markings. In this mode, the bar display does not
indicate the distance to the target object.
Tip 4: Press the Calibration button (e) as soon as the LEDs (a, b) light up
and/or the warning signal sounds. Then move the device towards the object
again. This adjusts the accuracy, enabling the device to get nearer to the
target object.
