IMPORTANT: Please read carefully and save these instructions, as you may
need them later. When using electrical equipment, basic safety precautions
should always be followed.
READ AND FOLLOW BELOW SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL: All electrical connections must be in accordance with local and
National Electrical Code (N.E.C) standards. LED Retrofit Kit installation
requires knowledge of electrical systems. We strongly suggest obtaining the
services of a qualified electrician to aid in your installation.
CAUTION
- Turn power off before installation.
- Use only on 120 volt circuits.
- Risk of electric shock- do not use where directly exposed to water.
- Not suitable for totally enclosed fixtures. Not intended for use with emergency exit lamps or fixtures.
- May not be compatible with all dimmer switches.
- Do not use this fixture close to any source of heat.
- Place the device out of reach of children under 3 years old.
UNPACKING
Thoroughly inspect the fixture for freight damage. Freight damage should be
reported to the delivery carrier. Consult a local licensed electrician or
electrical contractor before proceeding.
DIRECT WIRE INSTALLATION
-
Placement of Fixture: Determine location and method for connecting 120V power for fixture. Portable units are attached to house wiring with the use of a plug and Power Cord. They can be easily moved from one location to another and have limited requirements for grounding connections. Direct Wire units are designed to be permanently mounted and are often directly connected to the house wiring through junction boxes.
-
Locate Mounting Holes: Place fixture on mounting surface and with a thin screwdriver, pencil or scratch awl mark the spot where the screws will be located through the Mounting Holes in the top of the fixture. See Figure 1. Do the same for a multiple fixture installation. . For mounting into drywall, drill 3 x 16″ holes for the plastic wall anchors (not included). Insert the plastic wall anchors into the proper holes and tap them into place so they are flush with the surface of your drywall. Caution: Check your cabinet thickness first.
Be careful not to drill through cabinet. Prepare fixture for installation by turning screws provided into mounting holes in the top of the fixture so they protrude through the back of the fixture about an 1/8″.
This will help you line up screws to mounting holes.
-
Remove Knockout: Locate and remove the desired knockout located on rear access panel. Remove the screw and rear access panel to gain access to the wires inside the fixture. Attach the supplied Cable Connector as shown in Figure 2.
-
Make Connections: Using either armored cable or non-metallic cable follow schematic in Figure 3 to make electrical connections per National Electric Code (NEC) and local codes in your area. AC supply should be 120V protected by circuit breaker or fuse.
WARNING: Make sure electrical power supply for installation circuit is shut down at electrical service panel before starting installation. Do not re- energize circuit until installation is fully completed. Ensure that no bare wires are exposed outside the electrical connections. Use 12 or 14 AWG wires. Figure 4 shows completed electrical connections using wire nuts -
Replace rear access panel making sure all connections are secure before closing the fixture Figure 4. Note: Be sure that the wires are not pinched or damaged by any part of the housing or the cover. CAUTION: Do not leave any knockouts uncovered. If more than one knockout was removed, they must be covered with an approved 1/2″ Knockout Plug per the NEC (not included). Attach fixture to cabinet or wall by tightening screws securely.
Re-energize electrical circuit at the service panel.
INTERCONNECTING MULTIPLE FIXTURES
WARNING: In multiple fixture installations do not electrify fixture group
until all electrical connections have been made and fixtures have been
securely mounted.
Interconnecting multiple fixtures can be done with Romex cable (not included).
Follow instructions above for Direct Wire Installation. First, mount the
fixture that receives the incoming electrical supply. Using Romex cable, make
sure plugs on both ends are fully inserted into ports on both fixtures. There
should be some slack in the cable so that the electrical connectors are not
stressed in any way.
Use cord clips (not included) to keep cord safely attached to mounting
surface.
ON/OFF WIRING
Make sure the supply voltage is the same as the luminaire voltage. See fixture
spec label.
Dimming compatible with most incandescent dimmers.
- Connect the black fixture lead to the LINE supply lead.
- Connect the white fixture lead to the COMMON supply lead.
- Connect the yellow wire from fixture to supply GROUND.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
Caution: Be sure fixture temperature is cool enough to touch. Do not clean or maintain while Fixture is energized.
- Clean polycarbonate lens with non-abrasive glass cleaning.
- Do not open fixture to clean the LED. Do not touch the LED.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Check that the line voltage at fixture is correct. Refer to wiring directions.
- Check if the fixture is grounded properly.
WARNING
RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK.
SUITABLE FOR INDOOR DRY LOCATION ONLY DISCONNECT MAIN POWER AT FUSE OR CIRCUIT
BREAKER BEFORE INSTALLING OR SERVICING THE FIXTURE. NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS
INSIDE.
TO PREVENT OVERHEATING DO NOT INSTALL IN SMALL ENCLOSED SPACES.
