ATTENTION: Do not use alcohol, solvents or similar chemical substances
for cleaning. Use a soft cloth dampened in a bland solution of water and
neutral detergent.
To obtain a clear sound
-
Before starting to play, warm the instrument by blowing into it long enough to make it lukewarm. In this way you will avoid the formation of humidity on the inside.
-
The recorder is not capable of sound intensity variations.
Therefore always make sure to blow into it lightly. -
To obtain a clear sound you must position your finger cor-rectly to cover the holes, using the fleshy parts of your fin-gers and not the joints or tips. Each finger has a hole to cover except for the little finger which is never used.
-
To emit a sound place your tongue at the base of the upper row of teeth and blow, softly pronouncing the syllables “Tu” or “Du”.
-
Accuracy of the high pitched sounds depends on the hole covered by the thumb of the left hand. For the clearest sounds uncover the hole 1/3 or a 1/4 of the way and blow a little harder.
Covered hole Open hole
Open hole for 1/4 or 1/3 of the way: It shows the correct positioning of the
left hand thumb slightly moved downwards.
N.B.: If two finger positions are shown, the left one (1) is the most
commonly used, (2) the other is merely an alternative.
The notes played with respect to the scale shown above the stave are in fact
higher than an octave.
How to care for your instrument
- After use it is advisable to clean the inside of the instrument with a cloth placed at the top of the cleaning rod that comes with the instrument. Blow hard into the mouthpiece to unclog the groove of the lip slit. This operation will enable you to expel any obstructions.
- Make sure that the mouthpiece is always kept clean.
- Don’t let any saliva penetrate the instrument. This could give a sharp raucous sound.
