Other Consumer Safety Information
This appliance is intended for household use only.
This appliance is only intended for the preparation, cooking, and serving of
foods. This appliance is not intended for use with any nonfood materials or
products.
WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard: This appliance is provided with a polarized plug (one wide blade) to reduce the risk of electric shock. The plug fits only one way into a polarized outlet. Crock and Lid: Precautions and Information
- Please handle Crock and Lid carefully to ensure long life.
- Avoid sudden, extreme temperature changes. For example, do not place a hot Lid or Crock into cold water, or onto a wet surface.
- Avoid hitting Crock or Lid against faucet or other hard surfaces.
- Do not use Crock or Lid if chipped, cracked, or severely scratched.
- Do not use abrasive cleansers or metal scouring pads.
- Bottom of Crock is very rough and can damage countertop. Use caution.
- Crock, Vessels, and Lid can become very hot. Use caution. Do not place directly on any unprotected surface or countertop.
- Crock is microwave-safe and oven-proof, but never heat Crock when empty. Never place Crock on a burner or stove top.
- Do not place Lid or Double Dish Vessels in a microwave oven, conventional oven, or on stove top.
- Preheating Slow Cooker is not required; never heat an empty Crock.
Removing Lid and Crock

For best results, fill Crock or Double Dish Vessels at least half full,
but no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) from rim.
If only half-filled, check for doneness 1 to 2 hours earlier than recipe time.
Before first use: Wash Crock, Vessels, and Lid in hot, soapy water. Rinse
and dry.
- Lid
- Double Dish Vessels (2 quarts each)
- 6 quart Crock
- Base with Handles
- Control Knob
Tips for Slow Cooking
- Crock should be at least half-filled for best results. If only half-filled, check for doneness 1 to 2 hours earlier than recipe time.
- Stirring is not necessary when slow cooking. Removing Lid results in heat loss and cooking time may need to be extended. However, if cooking on HIGH, you may want to stir occasionally.
- If cooking soups or stews, leave a 2-inch (5-cm) space between top of Crock and food so that the recipe can come to a simmer.
- Many recipes call for cooking all day. If your morning schedule doesn’t allow time to prepare a recipe, do it the night before. Place all ingredients in Crock, cover with Lid, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, simply place Crock in Slow Cooker.
- Some foods are not suited for extended cooking in a Slow Cooker. Pasta, seafood, milk, cream, or sour cream should be added 2 hours before serving. Evaporated milk or condensed soups are perfect for slow cooking.
- The higher the fat content of meat, the less liquid is needed. If cooking meat with a high fat content, place thick onion slices underneath so meat will not sit on (and cook in) fat.
- Slow Cookers allow for very little evaporation. If making your favorite soup, stew, or sauce, reduce liquid called for in original recipe. If too thick, liquid can be added later.
- If cooking a vegetable-type casserole, there will need to be liquid in the recipe to prevent scorching on the sides of Crock.
- If cooking a recipe with root vegetables, place root vegetables in bottom of Crock.
Two Ways to Slow Cook:
- Traditional slow cooking with food cooking in the 6 qt Crock in Base. OR
- Double Dish slow cooking for cooking 2 different recipes at the same time. Always add 2 to 3 cups water to the 6 qt Crock before adding food to the Double Dish Vessels, then add Vessels to Crock. Using more water than required will cause Double Dish Vessels to float, and may not cook food. Reduce water in Crock to prevent Double Dish Vessels from floating.
How to Use 6 Qt Crock
WARNING Food Safety Hazard. Food must be hot enough to prevent bacterial
growth before using keep warm setting. The keep warm setting should only be
used after a recipe has been thoroughly cooked. Do not reheat food on keep
warm setting. If food has been cooked and then refrigerated, reheat it on low
or high and then switch to keep warm. Visit foodsafety.gov for more
information.
CAUTION Burn Hazard. Escaping steam is hot. Use oven mitts to lift lid.
- Plug into outlet.
- Add ingredients to Crock.
- Place Lid on Crock.
- Turn Control Knob clockwise to LOW or HIGH. Set a kitchen timer according to recipe.
- Turn Control Knob counterclockwise to OFF ( ) when cooking is complete. Unplug and let cool.
Using KEEP WARM Setting
- Food must be cooked and hot enough to prevent bacterial growth before using KEEP WARM setting.
- KEEP WARM setting should only be used after a recipe has been thoroughly cooked.
- Do not reheat food on KEEP WARM setting.
- If food has been cooked and then refrigerated, reheat it on LOW or HIGH; then switch to KEEP WARM.
How to Use Double Dish
Use Double Dish Vessels for warming or cooking two side dishes or two small serving recipes. Always add 2 to 3 cups water to 6 qt Crock before adding food to Double Dish Vessels. Using more water than required will cause Double Dish Vessels to float, and may not cook food. Reduce water in Crock to prevent Double Dish Vessels from floating.
NOTES:
- Crock must be used when using Double Dish Vessels. Not using Crock with Double Dish Vessels can damage your Slow Cooker.
- 2 to 3 cups of water must be added to Crock when using Double Dish Vessels. Otherwise you can damage your Crock and/or Slow Cooker.
- When using the Double Dish Vessels, it is important to choose recipes with similar cook times, as both vessels need to be in the Crock during cooking. If you are only cooking in one vessel, fill the other vessel with 2 to 3 cups of water.
- Do not add water to Base.
-
Place Crock in Base and pour 2 to 3 cups water into Crock. If Double Dish Vessels are floating in Crock, reduce water in Crock to prevent Double Dish Vessels from floating.
Do not use less than 2 cups water in Crock, and do not exceed maximum of 3 cups. -
Add already cooked foods to be warmed, or food to be cooked into Vessels.
-
Place Vessels into Crock with water. Cover with Lid.
-
Turn Control Knob clockwise to LOW or HIGH. Set a kitchen timer according to recipe.
-
When cooking is complete, turn Control Knob counterclockwise to OFF ( O ). Unplug.
-
Let Slow Cooker cool before moving. Always use oven mitts to carefully remove Lid, Vessels, and Crock.
Food Safety Tips
-
Do not use frozen, uncooked meat in Slow Cooker. Thaw any meat or poultry before slow cooking.
Visit foodsafety.gov for more information on safe internal cooking temperatures. -
To store leftovers after cooking, do NOT place entire Crock in refrigerator since contents will take too long to cool. Instead, divide leftovers into smaller containers and place into refrigerator.
-
Never allow undercooked or raw meat to sit at room temperature in Slow Cooker. Once meat is placed into Crock, it should be cooked immediately (unless prepping Slow Cooker the night before, where Crock should be placed into the refrigerator).
Care and Cleaning
WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard. Disconnect power before cleaning. Do not immerse cord, plug, or base in any liquid.
- Control Knob counterclockwise to OFF ( O ). Unplug.
- Let Slow Cooker cool completely.
- Crock, Vessels, and Lid are dishwasher-safe. DO NOT use “SANITIZE” setting when washing in dishwasher. SANITIZE cycle temperatures could damage your product.
- Wipe Base with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers.
Troubleshooting
Water overflows from from Crock when using Double Dish Vessels.
- Too much water was added to Crock. Only add maximum 3 cups water. Remove some water from Crock.
Food is undercooked.
- Were 2 to 3 cups of water added to Crock? When using Double Dish Vessels, always add 2 to 3 cups water to Crock before adding Double Dish Vessels. Food will not warm or cook without water surrounding Double Dish Vessels.
- Was food cooked on KEEP WARM setting? Only cook on LOW or HIGH setting.
- Was power interrupted?
- Did you select LOW heat setting, but used a cooking time based on HIGH heat setting?
- Crock was overfilled. For best results, fill Crock no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) from Lid.
- Lid was not placed correctly. Check to make sure Lid is seated properly on Crock.
Food is overcooked.
- Foods will continue to increase in temperature after desired temperature has been reached. Check food when cooking time has been reached.
- Did you select HIGH heat setting, but used a cooking time based on LOW heat setting?
- Crock was less than half full. Check for doneness 1 to 2 hours earlier than recipe states.
Food isn’t done after cooking the amount of time recommended in my recipe.
- This can be due to voltage variations (which are commonplace everywhere) or altitude. Slight fluctuations in power do not
have a noticeable effect on most appliances. However, they can alter cooking times in the Slow Cooker by extending cooking times. You will learn through experience if a shorter or longer time is needed.
