Tips and Techniques

  • For a more uniform consistency, food pieces should be similar in size and small enough to be tossed around inside Bowl.
  • This Food Processor is excellent to chop, mix, slice, or shred most foods. However, to maintain peak performance, do not use your Food Processor for the following: grinding coffee beans or spices, slicing frozen meats, or crushing ice.
  • When chopping foods, using PULSE or a low speed setting on Speed Control Dial for short periods will produce best results.
  • Operating time will depend on quantity of food being processed. Most foods can be sliced, chopped, or shredded in seconds. If unit is operated continuously for an extended period of time, let the Food Processor rest about 15 minutes before continuing.
  • Do not puree or mash starchy vegetables like potatoes as they are easily overprocessed and will become gummy.
  • To slice or shred cheese, use only firm cheese like Cheddar or Swiss that has been chilled for at least 30 minutes. Cheese should be processed immediately after being removed from the refrigerator. Soft cheese like mozzarella must be placed in the freezer for 30 minutes prior to processing to ensure it is firm enough for shredding.

  • Handle blade carefully; it is very sharp.
  • Make sure unit is turned (off) and is unplugged.
  • Always unplug unit before cleaning.

WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard. Disconnect power before cleaning. Do not immerse cord, plug, or base in any liquid.

To Use CLEAN Cycle

  1. Remove all processed food from Bowl.
  2. Place Stainless Steel Chopping Blade into Bowl.
  3. Fill Bowl with WARM water up to CLEAN Line. Do not use HOT water as it can cause an overflow.
  4. Insert Agitator Disc into Bowl, rotate until Disc is seated, and add soap to Soap Dispensing Wells. Fill one Soap Dispensing Well for normal cleaning and fill both Soap Dispensing Wells for oily or sticky foods such as hummus, nut butter or cheese. Do not overfill wells with soap. Each well holds about 1/4 teaspoon liquid soap.
  5. If Reversible Slicing/Shredding Disc needs cleaning, place in Bowl with dirty side facing down before assembling Lid and Food Pusher. Add Lid and both Large and Small Food Pushers. Clip Lid. Always install Food Pushers before pressing CLEAN button.
  6. Push CLEAN button. The automatic Quick Clean™ cycle will begin. Cleaning cycle runs for approximately 30 seconds. You may press STOP/START to end the cycle early.
  7. When cycle ends, carefully rinse each component

NOTES:

  • The seal on the Bowl may need to be cleaned by hand, if soiled while removing food from Bowl.
  • It is normal for a small amount of liquid and soap to spill over the top of the feed chute. This is helpful in cleaning the chute.
  • If any residue remains, wash by hand in hot, soapy water or lace in dishwasher. DO NOT use the “SANITIZE” setting as these temperatures could damage your product.

Cleaning Chart

FOOD PROCESSED

| RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF SOAP (1 OR 2 SOAP DISPENSING WELLS)
---|---
Sauces, Dressings, Mayonnaise and Marinades| 2
Hummus| 2
Pesto| 2
Nut Butters| 2
Salsa| 1
Chopped/Shredded Fruits and Vegetables| 1
Grated/Shredded Cheese| 1
Smoothies/Milkshakes| 1

NOTES:

  • If soap suds are excessive, try using cooler water and/or less dish soap.
  • In most cases, parts will be clean after running the CLEAN cycle and rinsing with clear water. Particularly sticky or oily foods, like nut butter, or vinaigrette, may require additional cleaning.

General Cleaning

  1. Bowl, Lid, Food Pushers, Blade and Disc are dishwasher-safe or wash in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry.
  2. Wipe Base, controls, and cord with a damp cloth or sponge. If necessary, use a mild nonabrasive cleanser.
  3. DO NOT use “SANITIZE” setting when washing in dishwasher. “SANITIZE” cycle temperatures could damage your product. All removable parts may also be cleaned in the sink with hot, soapy water. Use caution when washing Stainless Steel Chopping Blade and Slicing/Shredding Disc.

Troubleshooting

Unit stops working, Light is not illuminated or does not operate on any speed or PULSE.

  • Check to make sure unit is plugged into outlet.
  • Check outlet by plugging in a working lamp or other appliance.
  • You may have overloaded the circuit and blown a fuse or tripped the circuit breaker.
  • Check that the Interlock Tab at the back of the Lid is properly aligned to the Tower.
  • Ensure Bowl and Lid are locked in place. They may have moved slightly during processing. See “How to Use” sections.
  • This Food Processor is equipped with motor overload protection.
  • If the motor stops during operation due to overheating, unplug and allow it to cool down for 40 minutes before continuing.
  • There might be a food jam. Turn unit off and unplug. Remove cover to check Blade. Remove any jammed food. Secure Lid onto Bowl before processing.

Unit stops working and all lights are flashing.
Turn off and unplug. Remove Lid and check to see if food is stuck. Remove food and start the process over.

Food is not sliced or shredded uniformly.

  • Packing too much food in the feed chute or pushing too hard on the Food Pusher may cause processed food to be irregularly sliced or shredded.
  • Thinner foods like carrots and celery may fall sideways in large feed chute and result in uneven slices. For cleaner cuts, use smaller feed chute and pusher to keep foods upright during processing.
  • For more uniform consistency, food pieces should be similar in size and small enough to be tossed around inside Bowl.
  • When chopping food, using PULSE or a low speed setting on Speed Control Dial for short periods will produce best results.

Unit has a burning smell.
There may be a residue left on motor from the manufacturing process, causing a slight odor during initial use. This will go away. If a strong odor or any visible smoke appears, unplug unit IMMEDIATELY and contact Customer Service.

Motor seems weak.

  • Selected speed may be too low. Try a faster speed.
  • The food pieces may be too large. For best results, food pieces should be similar in size, and small enough to be tossed around inside Bowl.

Cheese is not shredding well.
Cheese should be processed immediately after being removed from the refrigerator. Soft cheeses like mozzarella must be placed in the freezer for 30 minutes prior to processing to ensure it is firm enough for shredding.

Vegetables are not shredding or slicing.
Store vegetables with high water content in refrigerator prior to processing. Room temperature vegetables are less firm and do not process as well.
