  1. The appliance must not be installed in a bed sitting room with a volume of less than 20 m3.
  2. If the appliance is installed in a room with a volume of less than 5 m3, an air vent for an effective area of 110 cm2 is required.
  3. If the appliance is installed in a room with a volume from 5 m3 to 10 m3, an air vent for an effective area of 50 cm2 is required. The air vent is not needed, if the room has a door which opens to the outside.
  4. If the appliance is installed in a room with a volume of more than 11 m3, an air vent is not required.
  5. When any other fuels burning appliances are operated in the same room, the exhaust requirements of these appliances have to be included when calculating the required air vent.

Location

  1. The appliance can be operated in a kitchen, a kitchen with dining room or a bed sitting room.
  2. Do not operate the appliance in a bathroom, shower room or garage.
  3. A minimum distance of 55 mm from the back edge of the appliance to the wall is required.
  4. A minimum distance of 100mm from the side edges of the appliance to an adjacent cabinet or wall is required.
  5. A minimum distance of 400 mm to combustible materials above the appliance (vertical to its edges) is required. If this distance is less than 400 mm, an additional distance of 50 mm to the edges of the appliance is required.

2.3 Before installation
The washer is at the end of the shaft with the GL 1/2″ threaded elbow between the components. Screw the parts together without using excessive force.
If the appliance is installed above a built-in oven, the oven should stand on wooden strips. In the case of a joining cabinet surface, remember to leave free space of at least 45*560 mm at the back.
When installing above a built-in oven without forced ventilation, ensure that there are air inlets and outlets for ventilating the interior of the cabinet adequately.

2.4 Gas connection
The connection to the gas supply should be carried out using either rigid or semi-rigid pipe, i.e. steel or copper. The connection should be suitable for connecting to RC 1/2 (1/2 BSP male thread). When the final connection has been made, it is essential that a thorough leak test is carried out on the hob and installation. Ensure that the main connection pipe does not exert any strain on the hob. When a flexible tube is used, keep that it cannot contact with a moveable part of the housing unit and does not pass through any space susceptible of becoming congested.
It is important to install the elbow correctly, with the shoulder on the end of the thread, fitted to the hob connecting pipe. Failure to ensure the correct assembly will cause leakage of gas.

    pkm GKM4.1 Gas Hob - Figure 9

  9. Do not use cookware the diameter of which is too small; otherwise the flame will spread around the cookware and overheat the handle. RISK OF BURNS!

4.2 How to save energy
❖ Use proper cookware for cooking. The use of proper cookware with thick, flat bases can save energy. Remember to cover your cookware if possible.
❖ Match the size of the cookware to the size of the burner.
❖ Cookware should never be smaller than the burner.
❖ Ensure that the burner and the cookware are clean.
❖ Soils prevent heat-transfer. Repeatedly burnt-on spillages can often be removed by products only, which will damage the environment.
❖ Do not uncover the cookware too often (a watched pot-content will never boil!).
❖ Do not install the cooker near of refrigerators/freezers. Otherwise the energy consumption increases unnecessarily.

Environmental protection

5.1 Environmental protection: disposal
❖ Appliances bearing this symbol « » must not be disposed of together with household waste throughout the EU. To prevent potential damage to the environment or human  health from uncontrolled waste disposal and to promote the sustainable reuse of material resources, responsibly supply the appliance to a recycling centre.

5.2 Environmental protection: energy saving
❖ Use proper cookware for cooking.
❖ Cookware with thick, flat bases can save up to1/3 of electric energy. Remember to cover your cookware if possible; otherwise, you will use four times as much energy!
❖ Match the size of the cookware to the surface of the heating plate. A cookware should never be smaller than a heating plate.
❖ Ensure that the heating plates and the cookware are clean.
❖ Soils prevent heat-transfer. Repeatedly burnt-on spillages can often be removed by products, which will damage the environment, only.
❖ Do not uncover the cookware too often (a watched pot-content will never boil!).
❖ Decrease the power level as soon as the desired cooking temperature is reached.
❖ Use pot-lids to shorten cooking times and save energy.
❖ Minimise the amount of cooking liquids or fat/oil to shorten cooking times.
❖ Select a high-power level when you start cooking. Reduce the power level when your food has been heated up.
❖ For long cooking times: Switch off the cooking zones 5 to 10 minutes before you will finish cooking. This saves up to 20 % of energy.
❖ You can use the residual heat of the cooking zones for saving energy when starting a new cooking procedure on a cooking zone which is still warm / hot.
❖ Do not open the oven door unnecessarily often.
❖ Switch off the oven in good time and make use of the residual heat.
❖ Only use the oven when cooking larger dishes.
❖ Meat of up to 1 kg can be cooked more economically in a pan on the hob.
❖ Make use of the residual heat of the oven.
❖ If the cooking time takes longer than 40 minutes, switch off the oven 10 minutes before.
❖ For baking it is better to use black trays which conduct heat better and shorten the baking time.
❖ Make sure the oven door is closed properly.
❖ Heat can escape through spillages on the door seals. Clean up any spillages immediately.
❖ Do not install the oven/hob near of refrigerators/freezers. Otherwise, the energy consumption increases unnecessarily.

Cleaning and maintenance

WARNING!
Switch off the appliance and let it cool down before cleaning.
Disconnect the appliance from the mains and gas supply before maintenance.
Clean the hob whilst it is still warm as contaminations can be removed more easily.

The hob panel
