Getting to Know Your Device

Before You Start

| If you purchased the SC Tablet (Speech Case and iPad bundle), turn on the iPad and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process. Make sure to select Set Up Manually and choose a Wi-Fi Network as soon as you are prompted to do so.

Step 1: Place iPad in Speech Case

Lay the iPad (screen up) on a flat surface.
Place the iPad Frame Cover on top of the iPad and push down to snap it into place.
Align the iPad’s charging port with the corresponding hole in the Speech Case, then slide the edge of the iPad under the flexible lip at the top of the Speech Case.
Angle the iPad down to lay flat inside the Speech Case.
Use your fingers to bend the flexible lip around and over the edges of the iPad.

Step 2: Set the Mode

Set the mode on the Access Method Selector BEFORE using the device. Use the decision tree to determine the best mode for the user.

Touch position (T): The unit will say “Power On” and make 1 click.
Scanning position (S): The unit will say “Power On” and make 2 clicks.
Position (O) is for shipping and extended storage.

How will the user make selections on the device?

Set to S for iOS scanning	Set to T for TD Snap Scanning

Access all apps and files using scanning.
Not compatible with certain TD Snap Core First scanning features.
Configure scanning options in iOS Accessibility Settings.
To use iOS scanning in TD Snap, set the access method in TD Snap to Touch.

Best for users new to scanning.
Customize with TD Snap scanning features such as Group Scanning, Auditory Cues, and Hold Time.
Scanning is limited to TD Snap. Items outside of TD Snap cannot be scanned.

Step 3: Bluetooth Pairing

Sound from the iPad gets to the Speech Case speakers via Bluetooth. The iPad and Speech Case must be paired to hear sound through the Speech Case speakers.

On the iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
Make sure that Bluetooth is turned ON.
Select Tobii Dynavox SC Tablet.

| If using multiple SC Tablets in one room, you can identify each SC Tablet by the last five digits of the Bluetooth ID. It will match the unique five-digit serial number located under the built-in stand on the Speech Case.

Tip
Your iPad and your Speech Case each need to be plugged in to charge their respective batteries. See the diagram on the right for the location of the charging ports on each device.

You can monitor the battery status of the Speech Case from your iPad.

Add the Battery Status widget

On your iPad, swipe right over the Home screen to get to the Today screen.
Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.
Locate Batteries in the list of widgets and tap + to add it to your Today screen.
Select Don

You can now swipe right over the Home screen at any point to get to the Today screen and view the battery status of the Speech Case (the Speech Case must be paired). The widget also shows the iPad’s charge.

Step 4: Choose a Communication App

Use the table below to identify the communication app that best suits the user.
Speech Case users can download their preferred app from the app store. SC Tablet comes with both TD Snap and TD Talk pre-installed.

Step 5: Learn, Practice, and Troubleshoot

Your Speech Case/SC Tablet is now ready to use! Feel free to start exploring your device and apps. When you are ready to learn more, check out the TD Snap or TD Talk Touch Training Cards. The training cards teach you how to use the main features of your communication software, grow your AAC communication skills, and troubleshoot issues.
Use the printed training cards that came in the box with your device or scan the QR codes below to view them on the web.

| Important Many funding sources require speech generating devices to be sold as dedicated (closed) devices. Closed devices have limited internet and app store access. Once a speech generating device is delivered to the user or their representative, they are permitted to open the device for an additional fee, giving them full access to the internet and the app store.
