And since our lock has WiFi integrated in, there is no need for a separate bridge to connect. It’s now even simpler to securely control and manage your home with the August app. You may check the door’s status, provide virtual guest keys, lock or unlock the door remotely, and observe who is entering and leaving.

HOW TO PROGRAM
- Activate your August account by clicking “Set up my first August device,” or create one.
- From the menu in the top left-hand corner, select Set up a New Device.
- Select Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4th Generation under Set Up a Smart Lock.
- Install the lock on your deadbolt by following the instructions provided in the app.
HOW TO CHANGE CODE
Activate the August App. Enter the Keypad Settings section. To remove the Keypad from the Lock, select DISCONNECT. When you take this action, the system sends your special reset code.
HOW TO CONNECT TO WIFI
- Launch the August App.
- Click the Menu button.
- Select Settings.
- Go to Lock Settings and tap your lock.
- Select August Connect Set Up.
- To begin connecting to Wi-Fi, tap Begin Scan.
- Choose a network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password.
FAQs
My front door is sticky and when it’s only partially closed the deadbolt can be sticky. Will this be a problem?
The stickiness of the door if you are talking about the door being hard to close, is probably due to the hinges being misaligned or settling of the home over time which unfortunately goes beyond any lock, but after forcing it closed can still leave the lock misaligned with the hole in the frame that the lock bolt goes in to.
Is there any solution to be able to use with 5 ghz wifi?
Issue is only with those using mesh wifi systems, which use the same ssid for both 2.4 and 5GHz. 5GHz fades at distance before 2.4GHz. The best solution I’ve found is to simply walk far enough away from wifi that 5Ghz fades and the app (phone) is automatically switched to 2.4GHz. It usually takes about 20-30 yards to be out of 5GHz range and the phone will only see 2.4GHz and setup goes smoothly.
Is there an option for key on both sides, so that a perp cannot just break window and reach around to unlock door?
If someone breaks a window to open the lock, the lock will notify you it has been unlocked manually. Any time one of these locks is unlocked, either manually from the inside or the outside, or with the August App or using HomeKit, my watch buzzes me, and my phone gets an alert as well. I’m using my Apple Watch for sleep tracking now, so I wear it while I’m sleeping. If someone unlocks a lock, I’ll know.
Is this compatible with kwikset downtown single cylinder deadbolt?
Yes, most of the Kwikset single cylinder deadbolts work fine. I had an old Kwikset lock and it worked fine with my August smart locks of the 2nd and now 4th generations. I believe that August has a list of tested locks on their website. but many other Kwitset lock, not listed there, work as well.
Will this lock work without a wifi connection?
To clarify the previous answer. With no Wifi you WOULDN’T be able to control it remotely. Only close-in using the Bluetooth connection.
Does the August app have to be open to unlock the lock, or will it open with the phone’s Bluetooth when near the lock?
I will expand on the other answer. I have mine set for auto unlock upon returning home. It was working great for a while and would auto unlock when I arrived home. Then it stopped doing that. I read a little deeper into the app instructions. It said you should use your August app at least once a day for the app to learn your habits. So when I leave for work in the morning, I lock the door by the app. Since then, it’s been working continuously.
How far away can keypad be from the door?
The August WiFi doesn’t have a keypad to my knowledge. There is a phone app that controls the remote functions. It is keyed on the outside of the door.
Will this replace a simple keyed lock instead of dedicated dead bolt or will I need to drill new hole for dead bolt position?
You replace the deadbolt on the inside. You can then use August as an automated system but you can still use a key to get in. I did no drilling.
I have two of the older August locks on my home that required the little hub, does this generation still require the hub?
I too have an older generation August smart lock. This lock DOES NOT require the hub. I just installed one of these wifi locks. It works great. Super happy with it. And psyched to be done with the hub.
Can you manually unlock door from inside?
Yes. you just grab the outer ring of the August unit to lock or unlock the door.
Is it true if you don’t use it, you lose it?
It’s true. I lost it a long time ago.
Can you lock the door so it won’t open with the key?
No. Anyone with the right key can continue to unlock the door using the key. This lock only replaces the portion of the lock set mounted on the interior.
Will it fit 1.5” Door hole? I know new standard is 2.1” but mine is smaller. Thanks.
Yes. Literally uses the same 2 holes that your lock uses. The lock comes with a plate that you can use to cover larger holes.
Do you have to purchase the connector separately with the fourth generation lock?
No – It comes with everything you need.
Am I still able to use my key if the Wi-Fi is not working properly?
yes, you don’t change the exterior key lock, just the interior, so the same old key works.
