JB Atlas DS-500 Propane Scale

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing a JB Industries’ ATLAS DS-5000 scale. This device is capable of accurately measuring the weight of refrigerants while charging various systems used in the HVACR industry. This scale can display the weight readings on an easy-to-view back-lit LCD screen.

General Safety

Use caution when charging all types of systems. Some refrigerants are flammable
or toxic. Pipes, tubes, refrigerant and other components of HVACR equipment can be very hot (or very cold). Skin can easily be burned or frostbitten if refrigerants and components are touched. Use adequate personal protective equipment when servicing these systems. Follow all local and national codes, rules, and regulations when servicing HVACR equipment.

Operating Instructions

Installing Batteries

Remove the cover on the bottom of the scale and place 2 AA batteries inside Note the orientation of the + and – side of the batteries

Power Scale On/Off

  1. Press POWER button to turn on
  2. Press and hold POWER button to turn off

Screen Icons/Definitions
To Tare/Zero the scale:
With the scale on, press the POWER/TARE button to zero out the weight

Changing the Unit of Measure
The scale is capable of measuring grams and ounces
Press the UNIT button to change between grams and ounces

Back-light
The back-light will illuminate when the unit is powered on and will remain lit while the reading is changing
If the reading is stable for 30 seconds, the back-light will turn off to save power

Charging

Other charging methods are possible by using additional adapters for different canister types, including side can piercing

Inverted Charging
  1. Connect the charging hose to the scale side port
  2. Connect the other end of the charging hose (with the charging valve closed) to the system
  3. Attach the Secure Seal adapter fitting to the refrigerant canister
  4. Invert the can and connect the Secure Seal fitting to the fitting on the scale platter
  5. Turn on the scale and scale will display combined weight of cylinder and gas
  6. Short press “TARE” button to zero scale
  7. Charge the system by throttling the charging valve and monitoring the scale weight
  8. Once the proper weight is transferred from the canister to the system, close the charging valve and remove the charging hose from the system

Upright Charging:

  1. Connect the charging hose to the scale side port
  2. Connect the other end of the charging hose (with the charging valve closed)  to the system
  3. Attach can tap to the refrigerant canister (can tap should not release refrigerant)
  4. Connect one end of the hose to the can tap
  5. Connect the other end of the hose to the scale platter fitting
  6. Use the Velcro loop to secure the can to the hose and stabilize the can on the scale platter
  7. Open the can tap valve to release the refrigerant
  8. Turn on the scale and scale will display combined weight of cylinder and gas
  9. Short press the TARE button to zero the scale
  10. Charge the system by throttling the charging valve and monitoring the scale weight
  11. Once the proper weight is transferred from the canister to the system, close the can tap and charging valve and remove the charging hose from the system

Every effort has been made to provide reliable, superior quality products. However, in the event your instrument requires repair, please contact JB Customer Service Department to obtain a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) number. Ensure that all returned products are packed to avoid any damage in shipment. Paperwork should be placed in a separate plastic bag and should include JB’s assigned RGA number, a description of the problem and any customer assigned repair or purchase order number, if applicable.

Warranty

The ATLAS DS-5000 Propane Scale is warrantied against defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year from date of purchase. JB products are guaranteed when used in accordance with our guidelines and recommendations. Warranty is limited to the repair, replacement, or credit at invoice price, (our option) of products which in our opinion are defective due to workmanship and/or materials. In no case will we allow charges for labor, expense or consequential damage. Repairs performed on items out of warranty will be invoiced on a nominal basis; contact wholesaler for details.
