Overview

High-performance tower speakers with an 8″ woofer and a 1″ high compression driver are intended for high output systems for people who like listening to music wherever they are. Thunder Marine is made for the roughest outdoor settings, as opposed to other marine/outdoor/power speakers that are basically white versions of automobile equipment. The WET8CWB is a 200 watt RMS capable HDPE enclosure speaker with an 8″ woofer for deep bass and midrange and a 1″ compression driver for high frequencies that is intended to affix to the tower or roll cage of boats and UTVs. These speakers have weatherproof construction. Both the compression driver and the woofer are made of weather-resistant polypropylene.

INSTALLATION

  1. Determine the size of the pipe you are mounting the bracket to. If the pipe is 2″ – 2-1⁄4″, use the included 28mm mounting bolts. If the pipe is 2-1⁄4″ – 3″, use the included 45mm mounting bolts.
  2. Position the bottom mounting bracket where the speaker will be placed, and mark the wire hole using the bottom bracket hole as a guide.
  3. Drill a 5⁄8″ hole where the mark was made. The speaker wire/dome light and LED logo power wire will be passed through this hole. Place a grommet in the drilled hole so the wire will not be damaged by the sharp edge of the pipe.
  4. Pull the wires through the bar that the WET8CWB is being mounted to. Pull the wire harness wire through the bottom of the bracket. The white connector should be on the bottom side of the bottom bracket.
  5. Attach the power and signal wires from the vehicle to the included wire harness that was pulled through the bottom bracket. Pull back the wires so only 2″ of slack protrude from the bottom bracket. If too much wire is hanging out it won’t fit well in the internal enclosure recess (the wire may bind and cause a short, take care to not get any wire caught in the locking mechanism). The Dome light and Logo illumination run on 12V DC power. Both have a very low current draw, but it is suggested they be wired to a switch or relay so they will not drain the battery if left on.
  6. Tighten the bottom bracket to the top bracket using the associated mounting bolts.
  7. Tighten the bolts evenly until the bracket is tight and does not move. It is suggested to add blue thread lock to ensure the bolts do not loosen.
  8. Take the WET8CWB enclosure and connect the wire harness to the plug that hangs out of the internal mount recess. Carefully push the connector into the mounting area and place the WET8CWB on the bracket shaft area. Make sure to not pinch or crush the wires or connector.
  9. Hands tighten the adjustment knob to the desired speaker direction. Tighten the adjustment knob by placing the included tool through the holes and torqueing the adjustment knob down securely.MTX-Marine-WET8CWB-8-Tower-Speaker \(7\)
  10. Tighten the locking knob by hand. Next use an 18mm open end wrench to tighten down the lock knob so it won’t move. Using the 18mm wrench will ensure enough torque is applied to keep the unit from loosening.
  11. Turn up to 11 and enjoy the incredible sound of Thunder.
  12. To remove the speakers reverse this process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this a single tower or a pair?****

These are singles and are offered for sale separately.

Can I connect this to the Borvkit I purchased with two 6.5-inch speakers?****

You could run them in parallel off the same amp because the amp can take a 2 ohm load, your speakers are 4 ohms, and this speaker is 4 ohms. Keep in mind that there is just one speaker here, not two.

Do boat tower speakers need an amp?****

Without amplifiers to support them, speakers have a propensity to become distorted and drain power from the onboard radio system. For single and double barrel speakers, amplifiers are advised because you’ll want to crank the volume up when riding, at the party cove, or when you’re just lounging on the water.

Are marine speakers worth it?****

Marine speakers are those that are more suitable for use in the water. They are typically more durable in addition to being water-resistant. Marine speakers are designed to resist the various exposures to moisture, climate, and weather.

Are tower speakers worth it?****

There are no hard and fast rules, although towers typically have higher sensitivity, better power handling, and loudness capability.

Do I need a subwoofer if I have tower speakers?****

Most tower speakers do not require a subwoofer because they produce adequate bass on their own. However, a subwoofer would be a wise addition to your system if you want to hear deep, room-shaking bass.

Do you need an amp for 4 marine speakers?****

The majority of maritime stereos come equipped with an amplifier, some of which are very powerful. Without an external amplifier, good sound is definitely feasible.

Can I put car speakers in a boat?****

Although the answer is correct in theory, we always advise purchasing genuine marine grade speakers for a variety of reasons.

How long do marine speakers last?****

Marine speakers are made specifically for use on boats. Thorough testing guarantees that they will withstand the elements.

How far should you sit from tower speakers?****

For bookshelf speakers, aim for a distance of 4 feet, while for floor-standing speakers, aim for 8 feet. Too close speakers will cause sounds to muddle and merge together.

How long will tower speakers last?****

High-quality speakers typically survive up to 40–50 years before displaying any indications of degradation, depending on the materials they are composed of and the climatic conditions where the equipment is utilized.

Should tower speakers be away from wall?****

If at all possible, keep your speakers away from the walls because sound waves can be affected by reflections off of nearby objects.

Why do some tower speakers have 4 terminals?****

The speaker can be “bi-amped” with the use of these extra input connections. Please take note that binding posts marked “Main” and “Height” are NOT intended to be “bi-amped.” These speakers include a built-in “Height” speaker that needs its own channel and set of cords.
