INTRODUCTION

Thanks for purchasing Applied Research and Technology PROsplit. The PROSplit provides one direct output and one transformer isolated output from a single microphone input.
Applications include sending the direct output to the main or Front-of-House mixer, with the second isolated output being sent to a monitor or recording mixer.
The direct output passes phantom power from the main mixer to the microphone for use with condenser microphones.
The PROSplit includes a ground-lift switch on the isolated output to reduce noise due to ground loops between connected equipment.
For versatility the PROSplit also features an attenuator pad switch on the input that can be used to alternately connect a preamplified (line-level) signal to the two microphone-level PROsplit outputs.

INSTALLATION and OPERATION

Connect a low impedance dynamic or condenser microphone to the MICROPHONE INPUT on the PROSPLIT (alternately connect a line level signal to the MICROPHONE INPUT and engage the front panel INPUT PAD switch.).
Connect the DIRECT MICROPHONE OUTPUT to the mic input on main mixer (switch phantom power on at mixer if desired).
Connect the TRANSFORMER ISOLATED MICROPHONE OUTPUT to the mic input on secondary mixer or recording system.
Set GROUND switch to LIFT or GND. Use whichever setting provides lowest noise performance.

SERVICE

The following information is provided in the unlikely event that your unit requires service.

  1. Be sure that the unit is the cause of the problem. Check to make sure that the unit has power supplied, that all cables are connected correctly, and that the cables themselves are in working condition. You may want to consult with your dealer for assistance in troubleshooting or testing your particular configuration.
  2. If you believe that the ART unit is at fault, go to www.artproaudio.com. Select “Support”, then “Return Authorization Request” to request a return authorization number.
  3. If you are returning the unit for service, pack the unit in its original carton or a reasonable substitute. The original packaging may not be suitable as a shipping carton, so consider putting the packaged unit in another box for shipping. Print the RA number clearly on the outside of the shipping box. Print your return shipping address on the outside of the box.
  4. Include with your unit: a note with the RA number and your contact information, including a return shipping address (we cannot ship to a P.O. box) and a daytime phone number, and a description of the problem, preferably attached to the top of the unit. Also include a copy of your purchase receipt.

FAQs

What distinguishes this from the art prosplit? Why does the latter cost more?****

I only notice a change in price. I own 3 of the less expensive ones.

What is the purpose of a microphone splitter?****

A device that directs the microphone’s signal to two or more inputs. Mic splitters are utilised for live recordings where the same microphones must feed the PA systems and the recording equipment as well as for live sound situations where microphones must concurrently feed FOH and monitor mixers.

How do audio transformers split signal?****

This is constructed of two wire coils that can transmit audio signals without actually contacting one another, keeping them electrically insulated. In this method, the input impedance won’t be impacted by the direct or isolated outputs from one console to the other.

What is an audio isolation transformer?****

At the expense of voltage regulation, an isolation transformer helps keep unwanted noise out of the system. Voltage control actually has a much greater impact than clean energy. The sound quality improves as regulation increases and impedance decreases.

Does a splitter affect mic quality?****

A splitter system will have varying effects on different types of microphones. Dynamic microphones show the most obvious degradation, though all other types will also show some degree of it.

Do you need a splitter to use mic?****

To fully utilise your single-jack headset when using a PC with separate audio and input ports, you’ll typically find that a splitter is required.

How many times can you split an audio signal?****

Without the use of electronics, microphones can typically be split to up to three, and in some cases even four, destinations. The number of splits that can be achieved varies depending on the application, impedances present in the system, cable length, and splitter component quality.

Can you use a splitter for 2 microphones?****

An alternative is to connect a splitter to the 3.5mm input jack on your recorder. Then plug in two microphones to it. Additionally, these would be 3.5mm connecting mics, most frequently lavalier mics.

Are audio splitter good?****

The splitters’ internal wiring is designed to efficiently carry and divide sound. The calibre of the headphones used may be important. However, audio splitters have their uses and typically produce sound of a respectable quality.

Does a splitter improve performance?****

By separating the air as the vehicle moves, splitters enhance traction and decrease lift, which contribute to better vehicle performance. Without a splitter, when a car travels at a high speed, high pressure air is forced underneath the automobile from the front of the car.

How big of a splitter do I need?****

You must first determine the types and sizes of the logs you will be splitting in order to respond to this question. If the wood is softwood like pine, you only need a 4 tonne splitter, but if it is a 6 inch diameter hardwood like elm or hickory, you will need a splitter of about 10 tonnes and above.

How much does a splitter degrade signal?****

Each port of a splitter will experience a loss of about 3.5 dB. Multiple two- way splitters typically make up TV signal splitters with more than two output ports.
