Requirements : Separate tape, Single CD player or CD changer in lower dash/trunk.

Introduction (formerly A2D-GM1)

Many 1995-05 GM vehicles in addition to the AM/FM/Theftlock radio, may also include a separate cassette, single CD, or CD changer. If this describes your vehicle, then the BTA-GM1 (formerly A2D-GM1) is for you! In the past, adding any type of adapter to these vehicles required disconnecting the separate player, but thanks to the BTA-GM1; everything remains stock plug ability to stream and charge smart devices. A Bluetooth wireless connection means no wires, clutter or complicated setup. Simply connect module (to Theftlock radio), pair smartphone or tablet and enjoy favorite audio apps on the car system. The BTA-GM1 works only if separate single CD, Cassette player or CD changer is fully functional. Vehicles without separate/slave player are not compatible. Purchase our BLU-GM1 instead. This module does not support phone calls. Purchase our BTH-GM1 instead.

Warning : The AM/FM/CD or TAPE radio (See Fig. 11) in upper dash is not a separate or slave player. Separate or slave players (See Fig. 12) are installed below climate controls, lower dash, trunk/hatch and required for the BTA-GM1 to work.

Installation: (To AM/FM Theftlock radio)

Warning : Not applicable to 1995-05 Buicks, Cadillac’s and Oldsmobile 32-pin connecting radios, (See Fig. 1), 32-pin radios require our A2D-GM32.

Remove radio from dashboard to gain access to 9-pin socket/plug. (Vehicle specific radio removal instructions are not part of this guide, but available upon request)

  1. Disconnect factory 9-pin plug from radio socket (See Fig. 2)
Note : If the radio 9-pin socket is empty; do not proceed with install because this vehicle DOES NOT have a required separate player.

  2. Connect factory 9-pin plug (removed in step 1) to installation harness 9-pin socket (white) (See Fig. 3)

  3. Connect installation harness 9-pin plug (See Fig. 4) to radio 9-pin socket vacated in Step 1.
    Notes
: The 9-pin plug on installation harness must be connected to the 9-pin socket on AM/FM Theftlock radio. Do NOT connect module 9-pin plug directly to separate unit. (See Fig. 4)

  4. Connect installation harness 16-pin plug (See Fig. 5) to module 16-pin socket (See Fig. 6)

USB charger
The integrated USB port (See Fig. 7) provides 5V/2A charging. Simply connect your devices charging cable directly to USB port or for a custom install; purchase optional dash mount USB extension cable seen in Fig. 8 and available here. The USB port is for charging only.

Pairing process varies among devices but the basic steps are the same. This process is done upon initial install and will not have to be repeated.

Feature Comparison

We offer a few different cables and adapters for older GM vehicles. The following table is intended to show similarities and differences to help to determine which solutions works best based on individual need. These adapters are all compatible with 1995-05 GM with original AM/FM Theftlock radio (See Fig. 11) and some also requires a separate player (See Fig. 12).

  • Separate players (single CD or TAPE or CD changers) are installed in lower dash, below climate controls or trunk/hatch and required for this module to work.
  • Speakerphone is possible by which the caller can be heard on car speakers.

Frequent asked questions & troubleshooting

  1. All this talk about separate units is confusing; can you explain what it means?
All GM vehicle will have the AM/FM radio (See Fig. 5) at the top of the dash but may or may not have a separate unit (Single CD player, Tape player or CD changer) in lower dash, below climate controls, trunk or hatch (See Fig. 6). For the BTA-GM1 (formerly A2D-GM1) to work as described, your vehicle must have at least one fully functioning separate unit (See Fig. 6) otherwise it will not work as described.

  2. Does the BTA-GM1 work with the AM/FM/CD and AM/FM Tape radio?
YES. So long vehicle also has a separate CD, CD changer or Tape player in lower dash, below climate controls, trunk or hatch. The separate unit must be fully operational, remains connected and functional.

  3. My vehicle has a separate TAPE player in lower dash; will the BTA-GM1 work?
YES; separate player (e.g. TAPE etc.) is required. For proper operation a cassette (blank or otherwise) must be loaded and remain in the tape player; otherwise, the BTA-GM1 will not work as described.

  4. My vehicle has separate single CD player below climate controls; will the BTA-GM1 work?
YES; separate player (e.g. Single CD or multi-disc CD changer) is required. For proper operation at least one “DISC” must be loaded and remain in the CD player/changer magazine; otherwise, the BTA-GM1 will not work as described.

  5. How good is sound quality? Sound quality is very good.

  6. My vehicle has two separate units; one in lower dash and a CD changer in armrest. Will the BTA-GM1 work? YES, and both slave units remain connected and functional.

  7. If in the future I decide to remove the BTA-GM1, will I have trouble with car wiring?
NO; the BTA-GM1 plug-n-play does not interfere with factory wiring integrity. With the BTA-GM1 disconnected, everything will work as it did prior.

  8. I purchased the BTA-GM1 but could not install it because my radio has a “SOURCE” button and 32-pin connector. What are my options?
The 32-pin radio on many Cadillacs, Oldsmobile’s and Buicks is not compatible. Purchase our A2D-GM32 instead.

  9. Can I use the BTA-GM1 to make/receive phone calls?
NO; the BTA-GM1 supports Bluetooth streaming but does not support Hands-Fee Calls. When calls are made or received while streaming, simply answer call as you would in portable mode (on handset). Streaming resumes once call has ended. Purchase our BTH-GM1 which supports hands-free call. Slave player (CD or TAPE) in lower dash or below climate controls is required for the BTA-GM1 to function.
