1997–04 Corvette on radio
Introduction
With Bluetooth technology and a Smartphone; C5 Corvette radios without a dedicated AUX port are able to stream applications on the car speakers thanks to the A2D-C5FM. The A2D-C5FM kit is designed to install in line with the radio FM antenna using the included antenna adapter kit. The A2D-C5FM works through the FM band and does not interfere with the normal radio operation of other factory options. This is an FM modulation kit that differs from FM transmitters as the latter tends to produce additional interference. Installation is a simple plug-n-play affair and hidden behind the dash.
Installation- To radio
This module is installed behind the radio cavity.
The PXHGM4 installation harness (included) allows the A2DC5FM to fit behind
the dash. Radio removal is required for this installation. This kit does not
connect to the trunk/hatch.
Radio removal is required. (Click links below for radio removal video)

- Locate radio 20-pin plug, and press the black release tab to disconnect (See Fig. 1) ****
- Connect 20-pin plug from step 1, to matting socket (white) on installation harness (See Fig. 2).
- Connect installation harness 20-pin black/gray plug (See Fig. 2) to radio 20-pin socket vacated in step 1
- Disconnect factory antenna plug from radio socket (See Fig. 3)
- Connect factory antenna plug (See Fig. 3) to include antenna socket in Fig. 4 marked “TO ANTENNA”
- Connect included antenna plug in Fig. 4 marked “TO RADIO” to vacated antenna socket on the radio (in step 4). Ensure the plug is fully seated.
- By default, the modulator tuning frequency is set to 87.9MHz. If use wished to switch to 88.3MHz; locate frequency switch (top left), insert small screwdriver etc. to move the switch to the desired frequency (See Fig. 5)
- Secure module behind radio cavity and proceed to next step.
- Make note of frequency selection from step 7 as this will be needed in the Bluetooth operation section below.
Optional AUX input
Any RCA cable will suffice or purchase our AUX cable and connect any audio device with 3.5mm sockets. Drill l9/64-inch hole in the mounting panel and secure jack to dashboard, ensure the mounting panel is no thicker than 4mm otherwise the threads won’t protrude enough to engage the nut. (If necessary, use Dremel or sander to thin panel). Note: AUX connection not required for music streaming to function
Pairing
Pairing process varies among devices but the basic steps are the same. This
process is done upon initial installation and should not have to be repeated.
- Turn ignition and radio “ON”
- Open smart device Bluetooth Settings and enable Bluetooth
- Tap Scan (Search) for devices.
- Wait for the Bluetooth device name to appear and tap
- Connected is heard on car speakers
Bluetooth operation
-
Turn ignition and radio “ON”
-
Set radio station to tuning frequently selected in step 5. (88.3 or 87.9Mhz)
Once the correct frequency has been selected, it is a good idea to store it on one of the radio present buttons (e.g., preset #1) -
Launch smart device streaming app.
-
Ensure smart device volume is at 90% or higher.
-
Use the radio volume control button to set the playback level. If distorted, lower volume on a smart device.
Warning: Playlist Track selection, and text display areNOT possible
from the radio.
Use audio device built-in controls to access and control audio files.
Listening to optional AUX device
- Pause streaming or disable Bluetooth on the smart device (important).
- Connect the audio device to the module AUX input jack/plug
- Place the audio device in playback mode
- Ensure audio device volume is at 90% or higher
- Use the radio volume control button to set the playback level. If distorted; lower the volume on the audio device.
Notes:
1. often times Bluetooth playback will be louder than AUX. As a precaution always lower radio volume when switching between AUX and Bluetooth
2. If the phone rings during the streaming session; music is muted and the call number is announced on car speakers. You must answer calls on the handset (The A2D-C5FM module does not support hands-free calls). Once the call ends, streaming resumes.
3. Unpair smart device when listening to AUX device.
Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting
-
What is the difference between this FM modulator and the FM transmitter?
Unlike FM transmitters, this FM modulator kit connects directly to the C5 radio antenna socket (input) to provide high-quality FM sound as you would expect from a commercial radio station. FM transmitters send their signal over the airwaves, picked up by the antenna mast which is prone to interference depending on weather conditions, topology, and landscape. -
No audio is heard even though the radio is on the right tuning frequency
Check that the smart device has paired and volume is set to 90% or higher -
How good is the sound quality from this module?
Contrary to what you may have heard, the modulator included in this kit sounds very good and far better than FM transmitters which are subject to noise and interference. -
It is possible to install the A2D-C5FM at the 10-pin plug-in trunk/hatch?
NO; the A2D-C5FM installs at the radio (Radio removal required). -
Does the A2D-C5FM work on all C5 radios?
YES. This module works on all C5 radios with or without an optional CD changer, with or without BOSE. -
Can I control a smart device from radio buttons?
NO; you must continue to use the audio device’s built-in controls and radio volume control button to set the playback level. -
I don’t hear music but instead static/distortion. What do you suggest?
Ensure the radio is set to the selected frequency. -
Will the radio mute when I receive or make a phone call?
Yes, and the call number was announced. Answer calls on handset. Streaming resumes upon ending the call. Mute is not possible if listening to AUX device.
