APPLICATION
Type 1 SPD for hardwired installation on a 120/208 VAC 3-phase Wye electrical service.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Caution: Measure all voltages to verify applied voltage does not exceed the voltage rating of the unit.

  2. Reference the Expected System Voltages chart below. Improper installation voids the warranty.
NOTE: Suitable for use on a circuit capable of delivering not more than 100,000 rms symmetrical Amperes.

  3. The recommended circuit breaker size is 20 Amps.

  4. This SPD contains no serviceable parts.1. Turn off the power at the main breaker or service disconnect before beginning installation.
    2. Remove the front cover from the electrical panel.
    3. Determine the ideal mounting position of the SPD by orienting the unit as close as possible to the position of the circuit breaker selected for the SPD connection.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Turn off the power at the main breaker or service disconnect before beginning installation.
  2. Remove the front cover from the electrical panel.
  3. Determine the ideal mounting position by orienting the SPD close to the desired location.
  4. Measure all voltages to ensure they do not exceed the unit’s voltage rating as per the Expected System Voltages chart.
  5. Install the SPD by National and Local Electrical Codes.
  6.  Ensure the circuit is capable of delivering not more than 100,000 rms symmetrical Amperes.
  7. Use a 20 Amp circuit breaker for optimal performance.
  8. Do not attempt to service any internal parts of the SPD as it contains no serviceable components.
  9. Remove a 3/4” knockout in the electrical panel or drill a 3/4” NPT hole in the electrical panel.
  10. Feed all wires through the knockout hole in the panel and tighten the included 3/4” locknut to the SPD fitting.
  11. Connect the Ground wire (Green) to the Ground bus inside of the panel.
  12. Connect the Neutral wire (White) to the Neutral bus inside of the panel.
  13. Connect the (3) Phase wires (Black) to the load side of the 3-pole circuit breaker.
  14. If desired, secure the enclosure with appropriate anchors by using the mounting feet on the SPD enclosure.
  15. After all connections have been made and no hazards exist, replace the panel cover and restore power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I install the SPD myself?
A: It is recommended to have a licensed contractor install to ensure compliance with electrical codes and to prevent warranty voidance due to improper installation.

Q: What should I do if the applied voltage exceeds the unit’s rating?
A: If the voltage exceeds the unit’s rating, do not proceed with the installation. Contact a professional electrician to assess the situation and provide guidance on the next steps.

Q: Is there any maintenance required for the SPD?
A: The SPD does not contain any serviceable parts, so no regular maintenance is needed. However, periodic checks for physical damage or signs of wear are recommended.
