The SR9080 surround speaker is your solution for amazing, engrossing, room- filling sound so you can really enjoy home theatre. Total sound field immersion is achieved because to the bipolar speaker dispersion arrangement, which produces immersive surround sound with a huge dynamic range. The SR9080’s enhanced bass response and crystal-clear highs enable it to deliver the most exacting audio soundtracks. It is equipped with BDSS drivers and aluminum dome tweeters. Clean, strong, and distortion-free sound is guaranteed by the cabinet structure’s inert, resonance-free design and acoustically transparent grilles.

VERY IMPORTANT:
Do not use your receiver’s auto setup function!!!
The bipolar nature of this speaker will often confuse the receiver’s auto setup.
Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel systems have critical channel balance and speaker setup procedures which must be followed if the system is to perform properly. Consult your receiver’s or processor’s manual to learn how to access your system setup menus. Set speaker setup to “small” and crossover to 80Hz for the SR9080BP and 100Hz for the SR9040BP.
Troubleshooting
If you experience any difficulties with your BP Series loudspeakers, try the suggestions below. If you still have problems, contact your Definitive Technology Authorized Dealer for assistance.
- Audible distortion when the speakers are playing at loud levels is caused by driving (turning up) your receiver or amplifier louder than it or the speakers are capable of playing. Most receivers and amplifiers put out their full-rated power well before the volume control is turned all the way up, so the position of the volume control is a poor indicator of its power limit. If your speakers distort when you play them loud, turn the volume down!
- If you experience a lack of bass, it is likely that one speaker is out of phase with the other and needs to be rewired paying closer attention to connect positive to positive and negative to negative on both channels. Most speaker wire has some indicator (such as color-coding, ribbing or writing) on one of the two conductors to help you maintain consistency. It is essential to connect both speakers to the amplifier in the same way (in phase).
- Make sure all your system interconnects are solidly in place.
- Check that no foreign objects or liquid has entered the speaker cabinet.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this a powered speaker with an integrated amp?****
It is not a powered speaker, the SR-9080. It is a surround passive speaker. Connect the SR-9080 to speaker wire coming from an AV receiver.
Why is this person referred to as bipolar?****
Bipolar in this context refers to the speaker having driver units that shoot both in front of and behind the speaker. This strategy has long been employed. In 1957, Quad unveiled an electrostatic loudspeaker that diffused sound from the speaker’s front and back.
When a signal is received, does the D logo flash up similarly to how it does on the tower speakers?****
No, they don’t light up.
Is this speaker suitable for use as a single unit, a pair, or part of a complete surround system?****
They are made to disperse sound across the space. They are therefore probably not appropriate for a central channel.
Which speaker wire size do you suggest?****
While 14 to 16 gauge speaker wire is more frequently used and advised for longer speaker wire runs, 18 gauges may be used.
How much does each of them (unboxed) weigh?****
Less than 13.6 pounds a speaker in shipping weight (13.6 lbs. for one speaker).
Are the banana plugs sufficiently recessed to allow the speaker to be flush with the wall?****
No. The receiver is attached to the banana connectors, and the SRs are connected using only the wire.
How High should surround sound speakers be?****
Prior to the emergence of immersive audio technologies, surround sound height positioning was regulated for years. Place the surround speakers about two feet above sitting ear height, which is typically 6 feet, when installing immersive audio speakers.
Where should surround speakers be placed?****
The side surround speakers in a 5-channel setup should be placed 90–110 degrees off-axis.
How should I set up my surround sound speakers?****
The subwoofer should be placed on the floor on each side of the screen, and the front left and right speakers should be positioned at a 22 to 30 degree angle.
What is the most important speaker in surround sound?****
The most crucial speaker in a surround sound arrangement is the center channel speaker because it does the bulk of the work.
Should surround speakers be set to large or small?****
If there is no subwoofer attached and Audyssey or another auto-calibration program is being used, all speakers should be set to “big,” which the AV receiver will likely do automatically.
Should surround speakers be behind you?****
Ideally, the surround speakers should be placed right behind you.
