Unpacking the Loudspeaker
After unpacking the unit, please check carefully for damage. If damage is found, please notify your supplier at once. You, the consignee, must instigate any claim. Please retain all packaging in case of future return shipment.
System Requirements
The MV212 and MV212-XV are bi-amp 3-way loudspeakers with a passive network used on the mid and high frequency bands, and they require 2 channels of amplifier and DSP. The MS218 and MS215 are dual subwoofers and require 1 channel of amplifier and DSP for normal forward firing operation. Cardioid bass set ups will require additional amplifier and DSP channels. All Manchester series Loudspeakers exclusively use Lake pre-sets via Lab Gruppen PLM+ and D series L platforms. No other amplifier and DSP platforms are supported. Manchester series has a powerful yet simple pre-set strategy utilizing the latest functionality of Lake software, along with new acoustic compensation for length of array and throw distances required (explained later in this QSG).
- Pre-set data is found either via Lake Load Library or can be downloaded from www.turbosound.com
- Recommended Lab Gruppen PLM+ models for Touring applications are the PLM12k44 and PLM20k44.
For installations using Lab Gruppen D series L models, please use Lab Gruppen ‘Cafe’ software – available for download from www.labgruppen.com – to determine the optimum amplifier configuration for your system.
System Cabling Requirements
To avoid wasting amplifier power, you should use heavy-duty speaker cable with a minimum wire size of 2.5 mm² (14 AWG), and preferably 4 mm² (12 AWG) for longer runs or where total cabinet input impedance is less than 8 ohms. For extreme cable lengths, be aware of cable impedance and resistive losses. Always observe the correct polarity. Use genuine NEUTRIX SPEAKON CONNECTORS for reliable operation.
Subwoofer Cabling
NOTE : Since MS215 and MS218 subwoofers are wired 1+/- = LF1||LF2; and 2+/- = LINK, in order to power multiple MS215 and MS218 enclosures, it is advised to construct SUB LINK cables wired: 2+ -> 1+ and 2- -> 1-. To power two subwoofers per amplifier channel, standard NL4 link cables from Lab Gruppen bi-wired NL4 outputs (Channel 1 = 1+/-; Channel 2 = 2+/-) can be used in conjunction with a SUB LINK cable. Refer to wiring diagrams below for further details. To power one subwoofer per amplifier channel, a single NL4 cable from Lab Gruppen bi-wired NL4 outputs (Channel 1 = 1+/-; Channel 2 = 2+/-) connects to the first subwoofer, then the SUB LINK cable connects to the second subwoofer.

Rigging and Acoustic Simulation Software
Refer to the MAN-FG rigging manual for safe suspension and installation of the loudspeakers, fly grid and all suspension hardware. MANCHESTER Series loudspeakers and fly grid are designed and tested to strict BGV-C1 standards. Suspension of these speakers must be performed in accordance with the rigging manual supplied with the MAN-FG fly grid and available online at turbosound.com
Suspended Arrays
Safety Warning : Only authorised and certified personnel shall design and install suspended configurations, following the instructions and procedures in the rigging manual supplied with the MAN-FG fly grid, or downloaded from turbosound.com. Failure to follow these instructions may lead to death or permanent injury. The versatile MAN-FG fly grid allows the Manchester MV212 and MS215 speakers to be flown in a number of different configurations. The MAN-FG comes with a multi-pick point tip bar for single or dual suspension:
The MAN-FG also comes with a single pick point plate that may be used instead of the tip bar.
The MAN-FG also comes with a ground stack plate that attaches to the rear mounting point on MV212 speakers for ground stacking.
Example : an array of MV212 loudspeakers attached to the bottom of the MAN-FG Fly Grid. The MV212 rear mounting plates adjust the angles.
Example : an array of MV212 loudspeakers attached to the bottom of the MAN-FG Fly Grid. The MV212 rear mounting plates adjust the angles.
A hybrid array may be configured using a second MAN-FG attached to the bottom of the lower MS215 subwoofer. MV212 speakers can then be attached to this lower fly grid.
For maximum array sizes, weights and working load limits, please consult the MAN-FG rigging manual.
Ground Stacking
Safety Warning : Only authorised personnel shall design and rig the ground stacked configuration, following the instructions and procedures in the manual supplied with the fly grid or downloaded from turbosound.com. Failure to follow these instructions may lead to death or permanent injury.
Example : an MV212 groundstack. The MAN-FG fly grid comes with an adaptor that attaches to the rear mounting point on MV212 speakers for ground stacking. The MV212 speakers can be attached to each other with 2 front mounting points and one rear point. The rear mounting plate adjusts the angle of the speakers in the groundstack.
Example: a hybrid MS215/MV212 groundstack. The MAN-FG fly grid may be connected to the top of an MS215 subwoofer, and then MV212 speakers connected to the top of the fly grid.
Lake Preset Overlays and Application Notes
- All Manchester series Loudspeakers exclusively use Lake pre-sets via Lab Gruppen PLM+ and D series L platforms. No other amplifier and DSP platforms are supported.
- The Manchester series has a powerful yet simple pre-set strategy utilizing the latest functionality of Lake software, along with new acoustic compensation overlays for length of array and throw distances required.
- Pre-set data is found either via Lake Load Library or can be downloaded from www.turbosound.com
- MV212 and MV212-XV loudspeakers each have 2 individual FIR base pre-sets: Full range, and with Subwoofer
- Warning : Do not combine MV212 and MV212XV loudspeakers on the same amplifier / DSP circuit.
- Warning : Pay careful attention to output patching.
- MV212 and MV212-XV modules are based on the FIR 3-way module from Lake software. MOM – Module Output Mixing is used, enabling mid and high bands to be individually processed and then combined back into 1 output channel. This maximizes performance, whilst minimizing amplifier channels.
FIR3 module from Lake software:
Enabling MOM (Module Output Mixing)
Warning: It is MANDATORY to Enable the MOM in the User Preferences / Designer Functions menu. How to Enable “Module Output Mixing”:
- Starting from the Lake Controller Home Screen, Click “User Preferences”
- Click “Designer Functions”
- Click “Designer Mode” – this enables Designer mode, so added functions can be enabled.
Click “Module Output Mixing” to enable Module Output Mixing
MOM: Output Patching (DSP Module Output to Amplifier Channel Input)
- Click “1/0 Config &Worksheets”
- To patch outputs, click on the “Modules” button.
- Select the first MV212 Module, Click “1/0 Config & Worksheets
Click on the magnifying glass at the output side of the DSP block diagram in the right of the screen.
The Patch screen may be all blue or may have some pre-defined selection in orange – make sure none are patched (so all numbered icons are blue) Assign the LF to its dedicated output section, while the MF and HF must both be assigned at the same output as shown. Note the Yellow notice: ”OUTPUT MIXING ACTIVE”
Please pay attention to MOM, for example, in the diagram below, you can see that both the mid and high output bands of the DSP are patched to the same output number 2.
MS215 and MS218 subwoofers each have 2 individual base pre-sets: forward firing and cardioid.
Warning : Do not combine MS215 and MS218 subwoofers on the same amplifier / DSP circuit.
Array Size Compensation (ASC) Overlays
Three ASC overlays are available, and it is recommended that ALL enclosures in
the array have ASC selected.
The 6 dB low-frequency shelving characteristic offsets LF/MF array coupling.
Note : Single MV212 / MV212 XV do not normally require ASC overlay.
