CHARACTERISTICS

This device allows the control of DALI control gears with LED or Fluorescence lighting.

Modular housing, with a width of 5 modules (87,5mm). DIN46277-rail mounting.

Built-in relay (terminal K) for the physical disconnection of the lighting fixtures (16A max.).

The device has a selector knob with which the user can set the type of control used: Pushbutton control (with Memory, without Memory, Auto mode), External Potentiometer, Rheostat, built-in Potentiometer, 0/10VDC Signal (active) or 1/10VDC Signal (passive).

The potentiometer, the rheostat and the external voltage source use the same input, so that the dimming can only be done with a single control at the same time. The pushbutton uses a different input than the other three elements, so that it can be installed in combination with one of them. Even if the pushbutton and one of the other control knobs are installed, only the set in the mode selector switch will be active

Once the control and the operating mode have been selected and the wiring has been carried out, the dimmer can be supplied. It is important to change the position of the mode selector switch disconnecting the power supply from the dimmer.

The dimmer has basically two elements for controlling the load: K relay and DALI digital output. K relay is a contact that opens or closes the phase output to the lighting fixtures. Therefore, with this relay we will control the supply of the lighting and with the output DALI we will control the light level

The front potentiometer has different functions depending on the selected control mode:

  • Pushbutton mode: dimming speed setting.
  • Potentiometer mode: manual dimming.
  • 0/10V mode: minimum dimming level (switch-off) setting

NOTE: Do not set this potentiometer to the maximum unless you want to direct the luminaires in case of malfunction

Master/Slave function, which allows to increase the power to be controlled, by the use of several dimmers and only a single control.

Anti-panic input for safety systems: in case of emergency, the lighting is witched-on at maximum level without taking into account the dimming control. Unidirectional and Broadcasting communication, it does not allow manual addressing.

Two output channels, both controlled at the same time, as a single channel.

OPERATION

Addressing:

As soon as the dimmer is supplied for the first time it addresses automatically the lighting fixtures. This process is also done if the front potentiometer is set at maximum ant the power supply is removed and restored again.

This process lasts approximately ~2min. During this time the dimmer does not respond to any external command.

In case of replacing any luminaire or any malfunction in the dimmer, please do again this addressing process

Controls:

Pushbutton

Press briefly the pushbutton to switch the lighting on or off.

In case of connecting the K terminal, as soon as the dimmer is switched-off by a short press of the pushbutton, the K relay is openned and the supply of the lighting fixtures is disconnected.

When the dimmer is switched on, it closes the relay K and sets the brightness level to the maximum (NO MEM) or to memory value (MEM or AUTO).

The dimming with the button will be made by a sustained press, keeping it pressed until the light reaches the desired level. When the pushbutton is released the dimming is stopped.

If the button is continuously pressed, the dimming is cyclical. If the pushbutton is released and pressed again the dimming direction will change.

With this control, the front potentiometer will set the dimming speed while the pushbutton is pressed. The pushbutton has 3 different working modes:

  • MEM: with a brief press of the pushbutton the lighting is switched-on at the level it had before it was switched-off. If there is a cut-off of the supply, when the voltage is restored, the lighting will return turned off, regardless of the previous state.

  • NO MEM: with a brief press of the pushbutton the lighting is switched-on at maximum level.
If there is a cut-off of the supply, when the voltage is restored, the lighting will return turned-off, regardless of the previous state.

  • AUTO: with a brief press of the pushbutton the lighting is switched-on at the level it had before it was switched-off. If there is a cut-off of the supply, when the voltage is restored, the lighting will
return to previous level and state before being disconnected from the mains.

Potentiometer or Rheostat:

The potentiometer will regulate the intensity of the lamps according to its turning position. It is possible to use the built-in potentiometer or an external one of 10KΩ. In order to make functional the external potentiometer, the built-in one must be placed to the minimum,

otherwise, the level set by the built-in potentiometer will have priority.

Whether using the front potentiometer or using an external one, when the minimum dimming level is reached, the K relay will be open, but the DALI output will not send the switch-off order. If the lighting fixtures must be switched completely off, the K relay must be connected.

If the potentiometer is set to the minimum with the luminaires off (using K relay) or with the luminaires switched-on at minimum (without using the K relay), after removing the mains supply and restoring it again, the lighting fixtures will come back off. If this operation is not desired, turn the potentiometer a little clockwise.

NOTE: Do not place the front potentiometer at maximum unless it is wanted to address the luminaires in case of malfunction.

· 0/10VDC Signal (active signal):

With the external voltage source, the luminaires are switched-on to the proportional input voltage in a range of 0VDC (0%) to 10VDC (100%).

In this mode, the front potentiometer sets the switching-off level.

· 1/10VDC Signal (passive signal):

With the external voltage source, the luminaires are switched-on to the proportional input voltage in a range of 1VDC (0%) to 10VDC (100%).

If a 0V value is sent, the K relay will be open, but the DALI signal will not send the off telegram. If the lighting fixtures must be switched completely off, the K relay must be connected.

If a 0V value is sent with the luminaires off (using K relay) or with the luminaires switched-on at minimum (without using the K relay), after removing the mains supply and restoring it again, the lighting fixtures will come back off.

In this mode, the front potentiometer sets the openning level of the K relay, but it will not limit the DALI dimming value.

Master/Slave configuration:

This type of configuration is used when the load to be controlled exceeds the maximum power the dimmer supports. In this way, it is possible to divide the load between several dimmers and to extend the power to be controlled. For this, it is necessary to separate the load in different lines, connecting to each dimmer its maximum load.

The device will work in master mode with any of the above-mentioned controls.

If it is necessary to control a higher load than the maximum allowed by the dimmer, it is possible to connect more dimmers configured in Slave mode to distribute loads and to control several dimmers with a single command connected to the Master.

Even different types of dimmers can be connected with this type of Master/Slave configuration in order to control different types of loads at the same level of brightness with a single control.

Anti-panic function:

Usefull for notice a power supply fault in safety systems.

If this function is not used, the jumper between terminals (-) and (AP) must be kept.

Removing this jumper the dimmer switches the lighting at maximum and the dimming signal is not applied.

INSTALLATION

Follow the steps below to perform the installation:

  1. Disconnect the power supply.

  2. Set the operating mode with the control knob placed on the side.

  3. Mount the dimmer into the DIN-rail. Avoid placing the dimmer along with other heat of sources, such as other dimmers.
Consider the most appropriate or ventilated place in the electrical cabinet.
It is recommended to leave a gap of one module between the dimmer and other devices. In some installations it is also necessaty to use forced ventilation.

  4. Select a wiring diagram and install it, depending on the control mode set in the dimmer. Connect at least 1 luminaire to Channel 1 (DA1+ & DA1-).

  5. Supply the dimmer

NOTE: When the dimmer is supplied for the first time, it needs ~ 2min of initialization. During this time it will not respond to external commands.

CAUTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS

  • It is mandatory to connect at least 1 luminaire to Channel 1 (DA1+ & DA1-).

  • In the event of a cut-out of the mains, with the front potentiometer placed at its maximum, the dimmer will need ~2min to reset itself when the power is restored.

  • If one luminaire is removed or replaced, it will be necessary to re-address the DALI equipments again.
To do this, set the front potentiometer to maximum and remove and restore the supply of the dimmer.

  • Do not connect to the K relay loads higher than 16A. If the nominal current is higher than 16A it will be necessary to install a relay between the dimmer (K terminal) and the lighting.

  • The 0-10V input signal must not exceed 10V. This input should never be inversely polarized. A short-circuit in these two terminals (- y 0/10V) can cause irreparable damage to the dimmer.

  • Always connect the Ground of the ballasts or drivers to prevent undesired flickerings.

  • It is recommended to leave at least a separation of 2m between the dimmer and the drivers.

WIRING DIAGRAMS

NOTE: Always connect at least 1 luminaire to channel 1 (DA1+ & DA1-).

Example 1: Dimmer controlled by Pushbutton
  • Place the mode selector switch (without power supply) in one of the following positions depending on the desired working mode: MEM, NO MEM or AUTO.
  • The front potentiometer will set the dimming speed while the button is pressed. With the potentiometer set to the minimum, the speed will be slower, and as you increase it, the dimming speed will be faster.
  • The connection of the K terminal from dimmer to the phase of the luminaires is optional. By connecting the luminaire supply directly to the mains, the operation is exactly the same.

Using K relay

Without using K relay

WARNING: Hazardous Voltage!.

The devices must be installed without 230V power supply and by qualified personnel!. Power supply must be protected according to the current Standards!.

**Example 2: Dimmer controlled by external or built-in Potentiometer or

Rheostat**

  • Place the mode selector switch at .
  • Turning the potentiometer clockwise or counterclockwise the light will be increased or decreased.
  • In case of control with External Potentiometer, the front potentiometer must be set to the minimum

Control with External Potentiometer:

Control with Rheostat:

Example 3: Three-phase installation with Pushbutton control and

Master/Slave configuration

  • Place the mode selector knob of the Master (without power supply) in one of the following positions depending on the desired working mode: MEM, NO MEM or AUTO.
  • Place the mode selector switch of the Slave (without power supply) in SLAVE.
Example 4: Dimmer controlled with 0-10VDC voltage source (active signal)
  • Place the mode selector switch at 0-10V.
  • Level 0V corresponds to the off state. As the voltage rises to 10V, the brightness increases.
  • In this mode, the potentiometer on the front sets the minimum dimming level. In this way, when this level is reached, the dimmer will send the switch-off command to the luminaires.

ATTENTION: the 0-10VDC signal must be electrically isolated from the mains.

Example 5: Dimmer controlled with 1-10VDC signal (passive signal)
  • Place the mode selector switch at 0-10V or .
  • If the 0-10V mode is selected the potentiometer on the front will set the minimum dimming level. In this way, when this level is reached, the dimmer will send the switch-off command to the luminaires.
  • If the mode is selected the potentiometer on the front must be at minimum, otherwise it will fix the dimming level without taking into account the 1/10V signal.
