Important Safeguards

Read these instructions carefully and retain them for future use. If this tool is passed to a third party, then these instructions must be included.

When using the tool, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of injury including the following:

Risk of injury!
Never work in your direction. Slipping of the tool can cause serious injuries.

Risk of cuts!
Parts of this tool are are extremely sharp. Care must be taken at all times when handling them. To avoid injury the tool should always be held with two hands. One hand should be placed on the handle itself and the other nearer the blade, actually guiding it.

  • This tool is not a toy. Children must always be supervised by an adult when using the tool.
  • Remain alert and use good judgment when using this tool. Do not use this tool if you are in any way impaired by medications, alcohol, drugs or fatigue.
  • Dress appropriately and remove all jewelry, secure loose clothing and tie up long hair before using this tool.
  • There is a risk of splintering and dust formation during woodworking. Wear appropriate protective clothing (e.g. work gloves, dust mask, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Parts of this tool have sharp edges and corners. Always be careful while handling it.
  • Keep the cutting edge sharp ensure a secure and proper working.
  • Always check the workpiece for any metal (nails, screws, staples, etc.) that could damage the cutting edge.
  • Make sure that the workpiece is clamped or otherwise held securely.
  • Do not modify the tool in any way unless instructed to by this user manual.
  • Do not use any chisel that is bent or shows dents, cracks, chips or excessive wave.
  • Do not use if handles are broken or splinted.
  • Do not use chisels as a pry or a wedge.
  • Do not use chisels with chipped edge. Sharpen with stone supplied.
  • Do not use a grinder to sharpen the chisels. Sharpen with stone supplied.

Intended Use

  • This tool is intended for woodworking, mainly for chiseling into wooden surfaces.
  • This tool is intended for household use only. It is not intended for commercial use.
  • No liability will be accepted for damages resulting from improper use or non-compliance with these instructions.

Before First Use

Risk of suffocation!
Keep any packaging materials away from children – these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. suffocation.

  • Check the tool for transport damages.
  • Remove all the packing materials.
  • Make sure the cutting edge (C) is sharp before use. Sharpen the blade if necessary (see section “Sharpening”).

Operation

Risk of injury
The edges and corners of the chisel are very sharp. When placing it aside, always lay it down with the bevel (B) facing up.

Risk of injury and tool damage!
Do not use hard-steel hammers and/or with sharp edges and corners.

  • Choose an suitable chisel. The narrower the chisel, the less force is required.
  • Depending of the material of the workpiece, you may have to change the angle of the cutting edge (see “Sharpening”).
  • Remove material from the workpiece by advancing the cutting edge (C) into it.
  • It is recommended to prepare a little grove before the actual work. This way the cutting edge cannot slip away when using more force.
  • After the work is finished, always put the tip cover on the cutting edge (C).

Cleaning and Maintenance

6.1 De-rusting and rust protection

  • Use commercially available rust cleaner or citrus cleaner. Wear gloves and follow manufacture’s cleaning instructions.
  • Spray the metal components. Let them stand for several minutes then, using steel wool, brass brush or toothbrush, scrub off as much of the rust as you can.
  • To prevent the metal parts from rusting, keep them lubricated with a commercially available lubrication solution.

Some lubrication solutions may interact with the wood what may affect the look of the wood. Ask your dealer for an accurate lubrication solution.

6.2 Sharpening

  • If the cutting edge (C) is blunt, primely sharpen it on the

    120 grain (darker gray) side of the sharpening stone (H). Do the precision

    sharpening on the #240 grain (brighter gray).

  • Lubricate the sharpening stone with oil.

  • Use the honing guide to ensure an accurate sharpening angle of the cutting edge (C).

  1. Turn the width adjustment screw (E) of the honing guide in anti-clockwise direction to widen the intake (D, G).
  2. Place the chisel with the bevel (B) facing down in the chisel intake (G). Turn the width adjustment screw (E) in clockwise direction to lock the chisel in place. Depending on how much the chisel protrudes from the chisel intake (G), the cutting edge angle of the chisel will be adjusted accordingly.

3. Pull the chisel in the honing guide backwards to sharpen the cutting edge (C). Press the castor and the cutting edge onto the sharpening stone (H). Repeat until sharpened.
4. Draw the sharpened cutting edge (C) across the corner of a scrap piece of wood to remove burr.

  • The plane blade is not provided.

Dry the blade and protect against rust. A freshly honed surface, if wet or moist, can show the first signs of rust within a matter of minutes. Dry the surface immediately with a clean, absorbent cleaning rag. Then apply a thin layer of oil as rust protection.

6.3 Storage

  • Always store chisels with the tip cover in place.
  • Store in a cool and dry place away from children and pets in the provided case.
