**ELEKTROLOKOMOTIVE Rh 1000
**
The prototype:
The electric locomotives of the 1000 series of the Dutch State Railways are based on the SBB Ae 4/6. The vehicles 1001 to 1003 were built by SLM in Winterthur, the remaining 7 machines by the company Werkspoor NV in Utrecht. In contrast to their Swiss sisters, the locomotives were not designed for alternating current, but for the Dutch direct current network. Initially, the locomotives were intended for express train service between the major Dutch cities, but during their entire service life (1948 to 1982) they were used almost exclusively for freight train service. Today, only the locomotive with the number 1010 has been preserved and can be viewed in the railroad museum in Utrecht.
