Supported HDD and SSD
This section provides information about the supported hard drives and solid- state drives. Notes:
- Drive Firmware is “not locked” in factory. When new Firmware is introduced in factory for any drive, it can appear with new system shipments, drive adds, or drive replacements. A new Azure release is not required for this new Firmware to appear in these new scenarios.
- The “Min Rev” column indicates that this Firmware version or higher is supported.
Legend:
- WI = Write Intensive
- MU = Mixed Use
- RI = Read Intensive

Appendix – Disk Group Configuration Rules – MC-660/MC-760
Note: The following disk group configuration rules are specific to S2D configurations.
- Rule: We do not support mixing SAS/SATA/NVMe SSD drives in the same disk group.
- Rule: We do not support mixing capacity HDDs with capacity SSDs in the same disk group
- Rule: All capacity disks to be of the same size in the same disk group.
- Rule: Different disk groups can have different cache drive sizes and types within a node/server.
- Rule: Different disk groups can have different capacity drive sizes and types within a node/server.
- Rule: When replacing a drive in a disk group, a larger capacity drive can now be used.
- Rule: When expanding a disk group, larger capacity drives than currently exist in a disk group can be used. Rule: Cache/Capacity drive count – The number of capacity drives must be a multiple of the cache drives
- Rule: Cache/Capacity size ratio – The cache to capacity should be near 10%
