Onboard to TechDirect
To start using Data Erase in TechDirect, follow these steps:
- Create a TechDirect account by registering at Dell.com.
- Enter your name, email address, and password.
- Verify your account by entering the verification code sent to your email.
- Create a new company or join an existing company to manage erase credits.
Create a New Company
To create a new company and assign administrator rights:
- Sign in to TechDirect and agree to the license agreement.
- Select “Create a new company in TechDirect” and fill in the company details.
- Submit the information to create the new company and become the administrator.
Join an Existing Company
If your company already exists in TechDirect:
- Sign in to TechDirect and agree to the license agreement.
- Select “Create a new account for myself and request to join my company’s TechDirect account.”
- Search for your company and request to join it.
- Complete your profile settings once the request is approved by the company administrator.
Activate the Data Erase Service
To activate the Data Erase service:
- Sign in to TechDirect as a company administrator.
- Activate the service from the dashboard or profile settings as instructed in the manual.

Data Erase enables IT administrators to equip their organization with a secure solution that the employees can use to locally sanitize their devices from any location. This solution offers the flexibility of self-service software, ensuring that employees can manage their end-user data securely and conveniently. Data Erase performs an erasure that is compliant with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-88 Revision 1 “Guideline for Media Sanitization”—NIST 800-88 Purge – ATA. The Data Erase service is available with the purchase of ProDeploy Plus. With each ProDeploy Plus purchase, you are entitled to one erase credit. One erase credit can be used to erase one drive. As an IT Administrator, you can manage the erase credits using the TechDirect portal. TechDirect is an online portal that allows you to manage your Dell Technologies products from one central location saving you time and boosting your productivity. The information in this document is intended for IT Administrators who manage the erase credits and enable the users to erase their drives securely.
Onboard to TechDirect
TechDirect is an online portal that enables you to manage your Dell
Technologies products from a central location. To manage the erase credits,
you must first onboard to TechDirect.
To onboard to TechDirect, perform the following steps:
- Create a TechDirect account.
- Create a new company.
- Join an existing company.
- Activate the Data Erase service.
- Optionally, Add technicians.

Create a TechDirect account
About this task
You must create a user account to use Data Erase in TechDirect.
Steps

Go to TechDirect.

Click Register at Dell.com.

Enter the name, email address, and password.

Click Create Account.
A one-time verification code is sent to the email address you entered. -
Enter the verification code and click Verify and sign in.
Results
Your TechDirect account is created.

About this task
To start managing erase credits, you must designate an administrator and your
TechDirect account must be associated with a company. If your company does not
exist in TechDirect, you can create a new company and assign administrator
rights to your account. If your company exists, you can join the company. For
information about joining an existing company, see Join an existing company.
Steps

Sign in to TechDirect.

Read the license agreement and click Agree and continue.
The What’s your role page is displayed. -
Select Create a new company in TechDirect and assign myself as the administrator. The Complete your profile page is displayed.

Enter a company name, select the country or region, and then enter the address.

Select For my company.

Click Submit.
Results
A new company is created and you are assigned as the administrator. As a
company administrator, you have full access to manage services and user
permissions for the TechDirect account of your company.

Join an existing company
If your company exists in TechDirect, you can associate your TechDirect user account with the existing company.
Prerequisites
Ensure that your company is already created in TechDirect and is associated
with a company administrator.

Sign in to TechDirect.

The What’s your role page is displayed. -
Select Create a new account for myself and request to join my company’s TechDirect account.. The Join Company page is displayed.

Enter a company name and click Search.
The list of companies that match your search criteria is displayed. -
Click Join this Company.

Complete or update your profile settings.
Results
The company administrator is notified and the administrator must approve your
request to join the company. After your request is approved, the company
administrator can assign you permissions to access certain TechDirect services
and accounts.

Activate the Data Erase service
To use Data Erase in TechDirect, you must activate the Data Erase service.
Steps

Sign in to TechDirect as a company administrator.

To activate the service from the dashboard, perform the following steps:
- Go to Dashboard > Connect and manage.
- In the Data Erase card, click Activate.

To activate the service from the profile settings, perform the following steps:

Select your username and click My profile.
The Profile Settings page is displayed. -
In the Activations section, activate the Data Erase service for your company. The active TechDirect services are displayed in the Roles section.

Results
The Data Erase service is activated, and you can start managing the erase
credits.

Add technicians
Prerequisites
You must be signed in to TechDirect as a company administrator.
About this task
Optionally, a company administrator can add technicians to a TechDirect
account and assign permissions to access certain TechDirect services and
accounts.
Steps
- Sign in to TechDirect.
- Go to Utilities > Administrator Control Panel.
- Click ADD TECHNICIAN.
- In the Technician information section, enter the technician information, select Technician for the Data Erase role, and click Next.
- In the User Group (Branch) Information section, select Additional Groups if required, and click Next.
- Review the information provided and click SUBMIT.
Results
The technician is added to your account, and an email with login instructions
is sent to the technician.

Getting started with Data Erase
After you onboard to TechDirect and place your first ProDeploy Plus order, Dell Technologies sends you an email about the purchase. With each ProDeploy Plus purchase, you are entitled to one erase credit. One erase credit can be used to erase one drive. The service enables the PC users to erase their drives using a self-service software from Blancco.
The welcome email lists the following information:
- The ProDeploy Plus service order number.
- Number of Data Erase credits that are available for your account.
- The Data Erase credit expiration date.
To get started with Data Erase, from the TechDirect dashboard, go to Connect and manage > Data erase. For any assistance related to Data Erase, write to databackupanderasuresupport@dell.com.
Overview
The Data Erase Overview page provides a summary of the number of erase credits available and the number of credits used to securely erase drives. You can also assign and track erase credits and visit the help center to learn more about Data Erase and other TechDirect services. To view the overview, from the TechDirect dashboard, go to Connect and manage > Data erase > Assign & track erase credits.

Assign erase credits
About this task
To enable the PC users to erase data on their PCs, you must first assign erase
credits. Erase credits provide the PC users access to the Blancco software
that they can download and run to erase data on their PCs.
NOTE: One erase credit can be used to erase only one drive. The erase
credits expire in 180 days from the purchase date.
Steps

From the TechDirect dashboard, go to Connect and manage > Data erase.
The Data erase page is displayed. -
In the Assign & track erase credits card, click Get started.
The Data Erase Overview is displayed. -
In the Assign & track erase credits card, click Get started.
The Assign & track erase credits page is displayed. -
Click Send erase credits.
The Send erase credits window is displayed. -
Perform one of the following steps:
- Individual emails—send an email to one or more users with Data Erase instructions, credentials, and a link to download the software. If you are sending individual email messages, enter the requested information in the Individual emails section, and click Send & close.
- Batch emails—use the XLSX template to send an email to many users with Data Erase instructions, credentials, and a link to download the software. If you are sending batch email messages, click Batch emails, download the XLSX template, enter the requested information in the XLSX file, upload the file, and then click Send & close.
Results
You can view details about your request on the Assign & track erase credits
page. See Assigning and tracking erase credits. The user receives an email
with instructions, credentials, and a link to download the software from
Blancco to securely erase their drive. For more information about how to erase
the drive, see the Data Erase User’s Guide available on the Data Erase
documentation page.
Next steps
After the user receives an email about the erase credit, the user must
ensure that the following prerequisites are met before erasing their drives:
- For the USB drive—a minimum of 1 GB storage space is available
- For the PC that is used to format and create the bootable USB drive:
- User must have administrator privileges
- 64-bit Windows version 7.0 or higher running on the x86 architecture
- USB drive with 1 GB of free storage
- An enabled USB 2.0 port
- Active Internet connection
- For the PC from which the data that is being erased:
- SVGA display and VESA-compatible video card to run Blancco software UI
- 64-bit Windows version 7.0 or higher running on the x86 architecture
- A minimum of 2 GB RAM
- An enabled USB 2.0 port
- SATA mode is set to AHCI in the PC BIOS
Assigning and tracking erase credits
In the Assign & track erase credits page, you can send erase credits and view the details of the erase credits after you assign the credits. For information about how to send erase credits, see Assign erase credits.

The following table describes the information that is displayed on the
Assign & track erase credits page:

Credit details | Description |

First name | The first name of the user that you entered while sending the |
erase credit.
Last name| The last name of the user that you entered while sending the erase
credit.
Email| Email address of the user that you entered while sending the erase
credit.
Requestor| The name of the administrator or technician who sent the erase
credit to the user.
Device Location| Location of the device.
of erase credits| Number of erase credits available and number of erase
credits that are sent to the user.
Credits sent| The date on which the erase credits were sent to the user.
Expiration| Expiration date of the erase credit.
Status of credits| The status of the credit. The status is categorized as
follows:
- Available—the number of credits that are available to be assigned.
- Requested—the administrator has sent the erase credit to the user.
- Sent—the user has received an email with instructions, credentials, and a link to download software from Blancco to securely erase their PC.
- Expired—the number of credits that have expired.
Resend email| A link to resend the email to the user.
Logs uploaded| The date on which the user uploaded the data erase logs after
erasing their drives. Click the date to view the Device & data erase details,
and download the Data Erase certificate uploaded by the user.
