Inspection, points to verify

Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection at least once every 12 months.
WARNING:
your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your PPE more frequently. Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the results on your PPE inspection form.
Before each use
Inspect the webbing at the belay/tie-in loop, at the adjustment buckle and at the safety stitching.
Look for cuts, wear, swelling and damage due to use, to heat, and to contact with chemicals… Be particularly careful to check for cut or loose threads.
Verify that the adjustment buckle functions properly.
On the TOUR harness, check the wear on the lower bridge of your harness: if blue webbing is visible on the lower bridge, retire your harness.
During use
Regularly verify that the adjustment buckles are properly tightened.
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each other.

Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).

Harness setup

Before putting on the harness, untangle it and loosen the waistbelt buckle.
The belay loop must be centered. Be sure to always pass the waistbelt strap through the belay loop.
The waistbelt sizing mark should not go into the adjustment buckle. If it does, use a smaller size harness.
Wet or icy harness straps are more difficult to adjust.
The ALTITUDE harness is made of high-modulus polyethylene; make sure it does not come into direct contact with a hot object, for example a descender.
Adjustment and suspension test
In a safe environment, move around and hang in the harness from the tie-in points to verify that the harness is comfortable and properly adjusted.

Tying in

See the diagrams for various options.
Special use
If the sit harness is used in combination with a chest harness, refer to the tie-in diagram.

Installing a belay or rappel system

Connect your belay or rappel system to your belay loop with a locking carabiner.
Verify that the carabiner is properly closed and locked, and that it is loaded on the major axis.
