- Do not use the product if you notice any signs of damage.
- CAUTION: RISK OF INJURY BY CRUSHING! Whilst measuring, always keep your fingers well away from the measuring contact surfaces 9 .
- Failure to observe this advice could result in injury by crushing.
- Temperature differences between the product and the object being measured can lead to measurement errors.
- Do not pull on the product or on the object being measured whilst it is still clamped. Otherwise the product and the surface of the object being measured could get damaged.

Before Use
Performing a function test
Check the product before each use in the following order:
- Check that the scale thimble 3 is functioning properly.
- Turn the scale thimble 3 to check that the measuring spindle 10 moves smoothly.
- Make sure that the measuring contact surfaces 9 are clean and in good condition.
- Check the function of the locking lever 11 .
Use
Reading the scale correctly
- There are 50 scale marks on the scale thimble 3 .
- Each scale mark corresponds to 0.01 mm. On the scale sleeve 2 , there are scale marks for full millimetres above the reference line 5 and scale marks for half millimetres below it.
- The chosen object will be exactly measured between the measuring contact surfaces 9 on the anvil 8 and measuring spindle 10 .
- Proceed with measuring as described in the following chapter “Taking a measurement“.
Taking a measurement
- Only hold the product (with your left hand) on the insulation plate 7 . Unlock the scale thimble 3 by turning the Locking lever 11 anticlockwise.
- Turn the scale thimble 3 anticlockwise to open the measuring contact surfaces 9 .
- Position the product so that the object being measured is between the measuring contact surfaces 9 .
- Turn the scale thimble 3 clockwise until the anvil 8 is touching one side of the object being measured, and the measuring spindle 10 is touching the other side.
- Turn the ratchet stop 4 clockwise for fine measuring spindle 10 movement. Turn until hearing “tak” sound to ensure both sides of the object are completely touched.
- Fix the locking lever 11 in place by pushing it towards the insulation plate 7 .
- Read the marking on the scale sleeve 2 .
- Read the marking on the scale thimble 3 .
- Calculate the total measurement reading by adding up the values from the first two measurements.
Example (see Fig. B):
- Measurement on the scale sleeve 2 : 5.5 mm
- Measurement on the scale thimble 3 : 0.115 mm
- Total measurement: 5.5 mm + 0.115 mm = 5.615 mm
Cleaning And Maintenance
- Remove oil, grease, dust and other substances from all of the product‘s surfaces.
- Be particularly gentle when cleaning the precision-engineered measuring contact surfaces 9 , measuring spindle 10 and the anvil 8 , so as not to damage them.
- Never use harsh or corrosive cleaning agents.
Checking the zero point
- The product‘s zero point was carefully set and tested during production. However, it should be regularly checked in order to guarantee the accuracy of the measurements taken.
- To do this, clean the measuring contact surfaces 9 by using soft cloth or paper. Unlock the scale thimble 3 by turning the Locking lever 11 anticlockwise. Turn the scale thimble 3 clockwise until the measuring spindle 10 is touching the anvil 8 lightly, but noticeably.
- Now check whether the zero point on the scale thimble 3 lines up with the reference line 5 for the scale lines on the scale sleeve 2 .
Adjusting the zero point
If you notice a deviation whilst checking the zero point, you can correctly set the zero point as follows:
- If the deviation on the scale thimble 3 amounts to fewer than two units, adjust the scale sleeve 2 using the hook wrench 6 provided, so that the reference base line on the scale sleeve 2 lines up with the zero point. To do this, fix the locking lever 11 in clockwise. Then turn the product over.
- Insert the larger hook of the hook wrench 6 into the hole 12 on the scale sleeve 2 and carry out the adjustment.
