Product Usage Instructions

Applying Limb Restraints:

Place restraint on the stretcher at both the wrist and ankle positions.
Thread the ends of the straps through the inside of the side rails, ensuring they do not interfere with movement.
Secure the straps by attaching the hook-and-loop closures, overlapping at least one inch. Confirm security by tugging the restraint.

Applying Cuffs:

Wrap the neoprene piece around the wrist or ankle and secure the connecting strap.

Removing Limb Restraints:

To remove, release the cuff from the patient and then release the anchor strap from the frame.

INTENDED USE:

To protect patients assessed to be at risk of disrupting life-saving treatments (e.g., chronic tube pulling) or in danger of injury to themselves or to others by limiting limb movement in a bed or stretcher.
Follow your hospital’s restraint policies and procedures that are compliant with USA CMS guidelines and state laws, or other governing agencies outside the USA.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: None
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: The order of either application or removal of the straps to the bed OR the cuff to the patient is to be determined by the clinician. Follow these steps to apply the device (repeat steps 1-3 on each side):

Place restraint on the stretcher at both the wrist position and ankle position on the stretcher.
Bring the ends of the straps down through the inside Fig. 1 of the side rails so they do not interfere with the movement of the side rails. Thread the end of one strap over the top, around the frame that moves with the patient, out of the reach of the patient (do not attach to the side rail or head/footboard). First attach the black hook-and-loop together, then the blue or red hook-and-loop together (Fig. 1). Be sure to overlap at least one inch (3 cm).
Tug the restraint to confirm it is secure to the stretcher.

APPLYING THE CUFFS: ( Repeat steps 1-2 for each side):

Wrap the neoprene piece around the wrist/ ankle so the connecting strap is on the ulnar side of the wrist or lateral malleolus of the ankle. Attach the black hook-and-loop pieces together and pull back the black pull tab on the blue or red fuzzy piece, followed by the blue or red hook-and-loop pieces. The fuzzy piece should be sandwiched between the two pieces of hook (Fig. 1). Be sure to overlap at least one inch (3 cm).
Press the hook-and-loop closure together firmly and make sure it adheres securely. Slide ONE finger (flat) between the cuff and the inside of the patient’s wrist/ankle to ensure proper fit.

TO REMOVE : Release the cuff from the patient. Release the anchor strap from the frame.

PRECAUTIONS

A clinical assessment and decision are required when used with monitoring lines or if the patient has a wound or dislocated/fractured limb.
Check the patient regularly to ensure that circulation is not impaired. Serious injury may occur if the cuffs restrict circulation when the limb holder is applied.

WARNING : Additional or different body or limb restraints may be needed (visit tidiproducts.com):

Some patients may require additional interventions in conjunction with a restraint in order to prevent injury to self or others.
- If the patient pulls violently against the bed straps.
- To reduce the risk of the patient getting access to the line/wound/tube site.
- To prevent the patient from flailing or bucking up and down and causing self-injury.
It is a clinical decision to decide when a restraint is no longer deemed safe.

BED SAFETY : Refer to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) , or other governing agencies outside the USA, for the most recent Hospital Bed Safety Guidelines and the bed manufacturer’s instructions for use.
