Product Usage Instructions

Before You Begin
The Posey Sensor Pad, when used with a Posey Alarm, is crucial for fall management. Ensure all components are working before leaving a patient unattended.

Application Instructions

  • Read all sensor pad and alarm instructions before use.
  • Check for any damage on the sensor pad, cord, and plug. Discard if damaged.
  • Remove the adhesive backing from the patch.
  • Place the sensor pad under the toilet seat bumper or standoff on the toilet rim.
  • Secure the sensor pad by pressing down firmly.
  • Route the cord to the Posey alarm and insert the plug.
  • Use cord clips to secure the cord off the floor.
  • Insert the plug into the sensor input on the side of the alarm.

NOTE
Do not use toilet seats with risers or safety side arms.

To Reduce Risk

  • Always test the sensor pad before leaving the patient unattended. Ensure staff is nearby and ready to respond to the alarm. jerking or pulling on the sensor pad cord to remove the plug
  • After toileting, ensure the cord is out of the footpath to prevent tripping hazards
  • Avoid rolling, folding, or creasing the sensor pad to prevent damage and false alarms

Cleaning:
Follow the recommended cleaning instructions provided in the user manual.

Storage
Store the sensor pad in a clean and dry environment when not inuse.

Disposal
Dispose of per facility policy and in compliance with applicable laws.

Before You Begin
The Posey Sensor Pad, in conjunction with a Posey Alarm, is an important part of your fall management protocols. Ensure all parts of this system are operational before leaving a patient unattended. This system does not prevent falls or injury from falls and is not a substitute for patient care, caregiver rounding, and a comprehensive fall management protocol in your facility.

CAUTION

  • This device may not be suitable for all high fall-risk patients. See Posey’s catalog for other options for such patients.
  • NEVER use a restraint on a patient during toileting with this product.
  • To prevent damage, NEVER roll, fold, or crease the sensor pad.
  • NEVER connect Posey sensor pads to other manufacturers’ alarm units.
  • NEVER connect Posey alarms to other manufacturers’ sensor pads.
  • NOTE: Before using this sensor pad, a Posey Fall Alarm must be securely mounted near the toilet, out of the patient’s reach.

Application Instructions:

  1. Read all sensor pad and alarm instructions before use.
  2. Check the sensor pad, cord, and plug for damage. Discard the entire sensor pad if there is any damage.
  3. Remove the backing from the adhesive patch.
  4. Center sensor pad under the toilet seat “bumper” or “standoff”, on top of the toilet rim. Make sure the sensor pad cord is to the outside (see drawing)
  5. Press down firmly to attach the sensor pad to the toilet rim.
  6.  Route the sensor pad cord to the Posey alarm and insert the plug. Check that the sensor pad cord is not stressed and does not pose a tripping hazard.
  7.  Use cord clips with adhesive backing to secure the cord off the door. Attach one clip to the side of the toilet. Attach the second clip to the wall, near the sensor pad.
  8.  Insert the plug into the sensor input on the side of the alarm.
    NOT for use on toilet seats with risers or safety side arms.

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death: 1. ALWAYS test the sensor pad before leaving the patient unattended

  1. Apply pressure to the toilet seat and then release. The alarm should activate when you remove the pressure.
    • If the sensor pad fails any test, stop use at once and replace it with a new sensor pad.
    • Sensor pads past warranty expiration date may fail, causing a false alarm or no alarm.
  2.  Staff should ALWAYS be nearby and ready to respond if an alarm activates.
  3.  NEVER jerk or pull on the sensor pad cord to remove the plug. Doing so will damage the cord or plug and may cause the sensor pad to fail. ALWAYS use a plastic tab to release the plug.
  4.  If you remove the alarm unit after toileting, make sure the sensor pad cord is out of the footpath and does not pose a tripping hazard.
  5.  NEVER roll, fold, or crease the sensor pad. This will damage the sensor pad and may cause a  false alarm or no alarm

Cleaning

  • Make sure the sensor pad has no visible cuts or signs of damage.
  • Dampen a clean cloth with disinfectant. Take extra care when cleaning sensor pad plugs.
  • NEVER
    use any cleaner that contains Phenol; immerse in liquid; or sterilize with heat. Dry with a clean cloth. its levels.

Storage

  • This device is designed for use in normal indoor environments.
  • This device may be stored in ambient warehouse temperatures at normal humidity levels. Avoid excess moisture or high humidity that may damage product materials.

Disposal

WARNING
Dispose of per facility policy. Be sure to follow all laws that apply.
Warranty
This product is warrantied for thirty (30) days from the date of first use. See Posey Catalog for Warranty details. Reprocessing sensor pads voids the warranty. Removing the label from the sensor cord voids the warranty.
