Product Usage Instructions

Installation

It is recommended to hire a professional plumber or someone experienced with OPUS systems for installation. A site visit should be conducted to determine necessary parts and ideal location. Consider installing a bypass with Dahl valves for unfiltered water usage.

Flushing the System

After installation, run water through the system for 15 minutes to clear carbon dust from the KDF/GAC filter. Choose a tap without an aerator or pull- out sprayer to prevent clogging.

Additional Recommendation

For fluoride removal, consider installing an OPUS drinking water system (Advantage, NANO, or AlkaPlus) for ultra-purified water.

Maintenance and Warranty

Ensure reasonable maintenance by changing filters annually and replacing O-rings if needed to maintain the warranty. The system includes a limited five-year parts warranty.

FAQ

    • A: Filters should be changed annually to maintain optimal performance and warranty coverage.
  • Q: Can I install the system myself?
    • A: It is recommended to hire a professional plumber for installation to ensure proper setup and functionality.

Product Information

The OPUS KDF-55 Whole House System is a whole-house point-of-entry filtration system designed to filter the water for an entire home or business. Point of Entry systems are installed where the water enters your home or business, as compared to Point of Use drinking water systems that are usually installed under the sink in your kitchen with a dedicated faucet that dispenses purified drinking water. This system does not remove fluoride, however, so if your municipality fluoridates your water supply, we recommend combining this system with an OPUS drinking water system that adsorbs fluoride (namely, Advantage, NANO, or AlkaPlus). This system uses three 20″ x 4-5/8″ filter housings equipped with pressure gauges to help determine filter changes and includes 20 and 5-micron pleated prefilters, and a two-stage filter combining KDF Media and Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC).
KDF Media combined with Granulated Activated Carbon: KDF Media is a zinc/copper formulation that utilizes the principle of electrochemical oxidation-reduction (more commonly known as the redox process or redox reaction) to eliminate bad tastes, odors, and water contaminants including lead, chlorine, heavy metals, silver, aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, copper, iron, nickel, zinc, chromium, barium, hydrogen sulfide, radon, selenium, mercury, trihalomethanes, algae, manganese, chloroform, VOCs, trichloroethane, lindane, pesticides and fungi. For municipal water supplies with normal to only slightly elevated levels of iron, the KDF-55 is the appropriate choice. Because our skin is our second largest organ, we actually absorb more chlorine through the skin in a five-minute shower than from drinking 8 glasses of chlorinated water! With a KDF-55 Whole House Filtration system, you can bathe and shower in chlorine-free water. In addition to the bad taste and smell, chlorinated water can cause an increase in a variety of health problems, including asthma, food allergies, birth defects, and bladder and rectal cancer, Another benefit is that chlorine-free water is softer and gentler on the skin as compared to chlorinated water, which is drying to the skin and hair.

Included Components

  1. Triple filter 20-Inch Big Blue System with three integrated pressure gauges, to be mounted on a wall in a basement, as close as possible to the point where the water line enters the home or building.
  2. Stage 1: 20 Micron Pleated Filter, to filter particles 20 microns and larger.
  3. Stage 2: 5 Micron Pleated Filter, to filter particles 5 microns and larger.
  4. Stage 3 & 4: KDF Media combined with Granulated Activated Carbon: KDF Media is a zinc/copper formulation that adsorbs chlorine, heavy metals, and eliminates a wide variety of harmful chemicals and contaminants, and improves bad tastes and odors.
  5. Filter Wrench, to enable easy opening of the filter housings (the three vertical components) that hold the filters.
  6. Five Year Limited Warranty if filters are changed annually

Installation Recommendations

We recommend using a professional plumber or someone with previous experience installing OPUS systems for all plumbing installations. A site visit should be done to determine the parts required for the installation, the ideal location, etc. It’s also recommended that you install a bypass using Dahl valves to allow using unfiltered water for applications like car washing, lawn watering, etc. The OPUS KDF-55 Whole House System uses standard fittings which all professional plumbers will have. Once the filtration system is installed, open the nearest tap and run water through the system for 15 minutes to clear the carbon dust from the granulated activated carbon in the KDF/GAC (Stage 3 & 4) filter. Choose a tap that does not have a an aerator or pull-out sprayer, as the carbon particles can clog them. Once the unit has been flushed, the water is ready to use. As this unit doesn’t remove fluoride, we recommend installing an OPUS drinking water system (Advantage, NANO, or AlkaPlus) in your home for ultra-purified water.
Warranty: The OPUS Whole House Water System includes a limited five year parts warranty to the original owner, with a one-year warranty on the pressure gauges and O-Rings, conditional on reasonable maintenance (changing filters at minimum annually, and O-rings if required).
