Operating Guidelines

• For indoor use only.
• The unit must only be connected using the mains power lead provided.
• To reduce the risk of fire or electrical shock, do not expose this unit to rain or moisture.
• Unplug the unit from the wall socket during lightning storms and when it is not going to be used for a long period of time.
• Take care that foreign objects do not enter, or liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through any openings. If this should happen, refer to qualified service personnel before attempting to use.
• Ensure adequate ventilation – do not cover this unit with curtains, etc.
• Do not install near any heat source, such as radiators, or other equipment that produces heat.
• Protect the mains power cable from being damaged.

CAUTION: The lightning flash symbol with the arrowhead within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated ‘dangerous voltage’ within the product’s enclosure that may be sufficient to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons.

Operation

POWER ON/OFF: The unit has a main power switch. When the main power is switched on, the LCD display will light up. The STANDBY button on the Remote Control will also switch the unit off and into standby mode, and pressing the button again will
return the unit to normal operation.
RADIO:
Manual Tuning

1. Press the AM/FM button (on either the unit, see Fig.1, or the remote, see Fig. 3) to select between FM or AM bands.
2. Press the Tune UP or Tune DOWN buttons on the remote (see Fig.3) to tune in to the desired station. Press and hold these buttons to activate Search mode tuning. The frequency will tune rapidly up or down the dial until it locks onto a strong signal, when it will stop to allow you to listen to that station.
3. Alternatively, briefly press the AUTO/MANU button on the Front Panel. The LCD display will show ‘Manual Tuning’ for a few seconds, during which time it is possible to use the control knob on the unit to manually tune up or down through the AM or FM band.
4. To manually store or save a station frequency to memory, tune to the desired frequency in either band and press the MEM key on the Remote Control. Then use the Remote’s numerical keypad to input the preset number to which you wish to save the
   station. See below for instructions on how to use the ‘10+’ button.

Automatic Scan Tuning and Memory Preset storage

1. Press the AM/FM button (on either the unit, see Fig.1, or the remote, see Fig. 3) to select between FM or AM.

2. To automatically scan for stations, hold down the AUTO/MANU button on the Front Panel for 5 seconds OR hold the AUTO button on the Remote Control for 5 seconds. The unit will begin to scan from the start of the AM or FM band (depending on
   which band was selected).

3. The unit will stop momentarily whenever it picks up a station frequency with a strong signal. It will then SAVE the frequency to a preset memory, and continue scanning up the dial. As the scan progresses, the frequencies are stored / saved in preset
   memories in sequence from 1, 2 and upward.

NOTE: This Autos can function will capture most frequencies operating in a given area, but for those stations operating at lower power or at a greater distance away, manual tuning and preset storage will be necessary.
Accessing Presets

1. On the Front Panel of the unit presets can be selected by using the preset up and down buttons. (see Fig.1)
2. On the Remote Control you can access the preset stations using the numeric keys (see Fig.3). Use the following guide to find your desired preset:
   • Less than 10: Use the keys 1-9 directly.
   • 10: Press the +10 key once.
   • 10 – 19: Press the 10+ key, then use the 1-9 key to input the second digit.
   • 20: Press the 10+ key twice.
   • 20 – 29: Press the 10+ key twice, then use the 1-9 key to input the second digit.
   • 30: Press the 10+ key three times.

ADJUSTMENTS:
Using the receiver FUNCTION button and control knob you can cycle through bass, treble, balance and loudness settings.
Remember that after pressing the FUNCTION key, you have only about three seconds within which to start using the Control knob to make your adjustment to the chosen setting.

1. Press the function button BASS and a bar graph will appear on the LCD. Use the control knob to adjust your desired level of bass.
2. Press FUNCTION again to cycle to the next setting TREBLE. Repeat for BALANCE and LOUDNESS. Each setting will have the horizontal bar on the LCD to show the adjustment taking place.
3. Once you have selected your desired settings for bass, treble, balance and loudness, the screen will provide an option of LOAD DEFAULT?. This will reset all adjustments back to their default when the control knob is moved. Note that this does not reset your AM/FM tuner presets.
4. Press FUNCTION again to cycle back to the bass setting (skipping the default reset option and storing the adjustments you have made). After 3 seconds BASS will disappear from the screen.

RDS – Radio Data System
RDS Allows a tuner’s LCD screen to display text information being transmitted by FM radio stations. RDS technology is becoming more prevalent in Australia.
RDS Codes commonly used.
PTY – Program Type (ie Station format or music genre).
PS – Station Name or ID.
CT – Clock Time and Date.
RT – Radio Text including Song title, Artist, Station slogan, Traffic updates etc.
NOTE: If the FM radio station in question has not activated and/or is not broadcasting RDS data, then the RDS feature will show nothing, no scrolling text etc. In this case, press the INFO button until VOLUME level is displayed on the LCD screen.
STR/Mono: Press this button on the remote control to switch between Stereo and Mono reception for FM frequencies. Default status is to receive in stereo, so for most frequencies, pressing this button will switch them to Mono reception.
NOTE: Some low-power FM stations operating in Australia on 88 MHz and below may be transmitting in Mono, and therefore this button will NOT make them Stereo. AM analogue radio in Australia is currently broadcasting only in Mono, and this unit is not
designed to receive AM-Stereo signals.

INSTALLING SPEAKERS IN ZONES

A2691 amplifier can drive either a single pair of speakers, called Zone A, or two pairs of speakers, the other being called Zone B.
Usually SPEAKER A terminals are used for only a pair of speakers for Zone A. When you have another pair of speakers, SPEAKER B terminals can be used for Zone B. Each zone has Left (L) and Right (R) speakers as a pair, and each speaker has a positive
(+) and negative (-) connection terminal. See Fig. 4 on page 6. Remember:

• Never short-circuit the + and – speaker cords.
• Be sure to connect zone pair speakers firmly and correctly according to the channel (Left and Right) and the polarity (+ and -).
• For safe amplifier operation, do not go below 4Ω on either zone at any time.
• When both zone pairs are connected and operational as A+B combination, the power output of the amp will decrease across both speaker pairs.

Troubleshooting

No power when switched on

• Mains socket not switched on, or faulty.
• Plug not fully inserted into wall socket.
• Mains fuse has blown in plug.
• Internal mains fuse has blown inside unit, this will need to be replaced by a qualified technician.
• Power cord has been damaged. This should be replaced immediately by a qualified technician.

No sound

• Power not turned on.
• Speaker setting is “OFF” on function menu.
• Volume setting is low.
• Loudspeaker cables are not connected.
• No input audio equipment is connected, or the equipment is faulty.
• Correct audio input source is not selected.

No sound in one channel

• Balance control set incorrectly.
• Audio source input cables are connected incorrectly, or are damaged.
• Audio input source is faulty.
• Loudspeaker cables are connected incorrectly, or faulty.
• Loudspeakers are faulty.

Loud buzz or hum

• Audio input cables are damaged or not correctly connected.
• Tape machine positioned too closely to amplifier or TV. Will not play or make tape recordings
• Tape input/output connections reversed.

Weak bass, diffused stereo image

• Speaker connections out of phase. Check + and – terminals are connected to the corresponding terminals on both amplifier and loudspeakers.

Distorted sound

• Frayed wires may be touching on speaker terminals and causing distortion.
• Bass and treble settings may be to high for the loudspeaker specification.
• Volume control may be set too high.

Display not working

• Internal fault. Have the unit checked by a qualified technician. Audio input source switches not working
• Internal fault. Have the unit checked by a qualified technician.
