SAFETY & WARNINGS

Before using your metal detector, please review these important safety notes:

  • Always use fresh 9V alkaline batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. If the unit is not in use for longer than a week, remove the batteries to prevent leakage that can damage electronic parts.
  • Dispose of old batteries properly. Never bury or burn them.
  • Do not use the metal detector in the rain or submerge it in water.
  • Use headphones with in-line volume controls and set the volume to a comfortable level to protect your hearing. Do not wear headphones while operating the detector near high-traffic areas.
  • Keep the search coil parallel with the ground and avoid sweeping it like a pendulum to prevent false readings.
  • If the detector sounds erratically or when no metal is present, reduce the sensitivity.
  • The detector should be used only in normal temperature environments. Extreme temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices and damage the detector.
  • Keep the detector away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts.
  • Wipe the detector with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents.

ASSEMBLY

Assembling your detector is easy and requires no special tools. Just follow these.

  1. Unscrew the fixing knob on the search coil and remove the knob connector. Place the washers into the groove of the lower stem. Insert the stem and align the holes on the search coil bracket and the stem. Push the connector through the holes and tighten the knob .       FIG 4 ASSEMBLY.JPG
  2.  Press the silver button in the lower stem and slide the stem into the middle stem.
  3.  Press the silver button in the middle stem and slide the stem into the upper stem. Tighten the lock nut on the upper stem.
  4. Adjust the stem to a comfortable length, ensuring the search coil is level with the ground and your arm is relaxed at your side. Tighten the lock nut.
  5. Fix the control box onto the upper stem and secure it with the fixing screw.
  6. Wind the search coil cable around the stem, leaving some slack. Insert the search coil cable plug into the five-pin jack on the control box. FIG 5 ASSEMBLY.JPG

Caution:

  • Avoid over-tightening the search coil and do not use tools like pliers to tighten it.
  • Ensure the search coil plug is inserted correctly into the connector. Do not force the plug or pull on the cable, as this can cause damage.
  • Stand and extend your arm, holding the metal detector so that the search coil is approximately 1 to 5 cm above the ground. Rotate the stem’s lock nut counterclockwise to secure it.

Installing The Batteries

  1. Ensure the power is turned off before installing the batteries.
  2. Remove the battery cover.
  3.  Insert two 9V alkaline batteries into the battery compartment, aligning them with the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside.

Note:

The detector will operate at full performance until the batteries need to be replaced. Replace the batteries when the battery level indicator shows no segments remaining. Always use alkaline batteries.

Caution:

  • Use only fresh alkaline batteries of the required size.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.
  • If you do not plan to use the detector for a week or more, remove the batteries to prevent chemical leakage that can damage electronic parts.

WARNING: Dispose of old batteries properly. Never bury or burn them.

OPERATION

Control panel

FIG 6 Control panel.JPG

  • Power: Press the button to turn the detector on. Press it again to turn the detector off.
  • Light: Press the button to turn on the backlight. Press it again to turn off the backlight.
  • Menu: The menu is located on the left side of the screen. Press the MENU button to cycle through the menu items. There are four items to select from the MENU indicator on the LCD. Each press of the MENU button moves to the next item. The selected option is marked by “ ”.
  • Increase (+): Press to increase the sensitivity, volume, and discrimination range. It is also used to move the arrow to the target to be notched out or recovered in NOTCH mode.
  • Decrease (-): Press to decrease the sensitivity, volume, and discrimination range. It is also used to move the arrow to the target to be notched out or recovered in NOTCH mode.
  • PP: Press to pinpoint the location of the target accurately.

Using Headphones

  • It is recommended to use headphones with volume control.
  • Insert the headphones 3.5mm plug into the headphone jack at the bottom of the control box. This will automatically disconnect the internal speaker.

Using the Detector

Hold the search coil level to the ground, about 1 to 2 inches above the surface. Slowly move the search coil over the area, sweeping it side-to-side.

Never sweep the search coil like a pendulum. Raising the search coil while sweeping or at the end of a sweep will cause false readings.

Sweep slowly; rushing will cause you to miss targets. It is better to sweep the search coil from side to side in a 3-inch arc, keeping the coil parallel with the ground. When the detector detects an item, it will sound a tone, and an arrow will appear under the target icon on the LCD, displaying the digital value and depth of the target. If the detector does not detect the item, ensure that the mode is set correctly for the type of metal you’re searching for and that you are moving the search coil correctly.

FIG 8 Using the Detector.JPG

Notes:

  • The detector responds with a signal when it detects most valuable metal objects. If a signal does not repeat after you sweep the search coil over the target a few times, the target is probably junk metal.
  • False signals can be caused by trashy ground, electrical interference, or large irregular pieces of junk metal.
  • False signals are usually broken or non-repeatable.
  • If using a coin, the detector will detect it more easily if you hold it so a flat side is parallel with the flat side of the search coil. Sweeping with the side of the coin over the search coil might cause false indications and unstable display of the target.

Test Procedure

  1. Turn on the detector.
  2.  Set the mode.
  3.  Adjust the sensitivity.
  4. Find a metal-free area of ground.
  5.  Place the test metal.
  6. Start testing.

Setting The Operation Mode

NOTCH Mode:

Adjusting Sensitivity

Press MENU to select SENS. “SENS” will be marked by “” on the LCD.
Press “+” or “-” to set the desired sensitivity level. The LCD will display the sensitivity level.

Note: If the detector beeps erratically or when no metal objects are being detected, reduce the sensitivity.

Note:

Cell phones, cell phone towers, etc. all produce interference signals and will cause the detector to beep when no metal is present and sometimes to beep erratically.

Adjusting Volume

Press MENU to select VOL. “VOL” will be marked by “” on the LCD.
Press “+” or “-” to set the desired volume level. The LCD will display the volume level.

Target Indication

FIG 11 Target Indication.JPG

Note:

There is a wide variety of metals and no target can be identified for certain until unearthed. This table is for general reference only.

Using Backlight

  1. Press the LIGHT button to turn on the backlight.
  2.  Press the LIGHT button again to turn off the backlight.

Note: The backlight consumes more power, so it’s better to turn it off in normal conditions.

PP (Pinpoint)

  1.  After finding a metal object, press the PP button. “PP” will flash on the LCD.
  2.  When “PP” displays steadily, move the search coil slowly above the target area.
  3. The detector will sound a tone, and the target depth signal will appear on the LCD.
  4. Sweep the search coil side-to-side and front-to-back in a crosshair pattern to locate the peak signal.
  5. To exit PP mode, press PP again.

Factors That Affect the Detecting

  • The angle of the target buried in the soil.
  • The depth of the target.
  • The level of oxidation of the target.
  • The size of the target.
  • Electromagnetic and electrical interference around the target.
  • In highly mineralized ground, fertile ground, or wet sand, the detector may sound even if there is no metal. Lower the sensitivity and increase the distance between the search coil and the ground.
  • Metallic digging tools near the search coil will affect detection. Place them a little farther away.
