Section 2: Setting up ONX

Before You Begin: Ensure your S23 has the

Step 1: Insert S23 Into ONX

  1. Bend the slipcover back and align S23 into the grooves on the
    sides of the base.

  2. Slide S23 down until it fits snugly on the USB-C
    connector.

  3. Wrap the slipcover over the top corners of S23.

Once connected, a confirmation tone will play, and all LEDs will
briefly flash.

Step 2: Install, Open, and Configure the Privoro App

The Privoro app provides information on ONX status and enables
encrypted communication between ONX and S23.

  1. Install the Privoro app from the Play Store on your S23.
  • Open the Play Store app on S23.
  • Search for “Privoro” in the Play Store.
  • Tap on the listing for the Privoro app to install.

About SafeCase ONX
What ONX Does
SafeCase ONX (Onyx) is a trusted hardware device providing secure and independent control of Galaxy S23’s audiovisual and wireless connectivity capabilities, allowing you to effectively disable (and reenable) the phone’s potential enablement of surveillance and tracking. A unique hardware-to- hardware integration between ONX and Galaxy S23 provides you with secure, independent verification that specified hardware components are truly disabled on the commercial phone.

SECTION 2

Setting up ONX

Before You Begin
Before setting up ONX, check that your S23 has been updated with the latest version of the Android operating system, which will ensure that your phone and ONX work properly together .

Step 1: Insert S23 Into ONX
To insert your S23 into ONX:
1 . Bending the slipcover back, align S23 into the grooves on the sides of the base .

Once S23 and ONX are connected, a confirmation tone will play and all LEDs will briefly flash .

Step 2: Install, Open and Configure the Privoro App
The Privoro app provides information on current ONX status, among other functions . Behind the scenes, the app also enables an encrypted communications channel between ONX and S23 .
To set up the Privoro app:
1 . First, install the Privoro app .
a . On your S23, open the Play Store app .
b . In the Play Store app, enter Privoro in the search field .
c . Tap the listing for the Privoro app .
d . In the app listing, tap the Install button .

3 . Opening the app for the first time, you will be prompted to allow data exchange between ONX and S23 (necessary for controlling S23’s radios and cameras/ microphones) . Check the Always open option . Tap the OK option to proceed .

4 . On the Get Started screen, before agreeing to the End User License Agreement (EULA), Terms and Conditions, and Privacy Policy, you can open each by tapping the appropriate option . Tap the Agree & Continue button to proceed .

2 . Once installed, open the Privoro app by tapping the Open button (or by tapping the Privoro icon on your home screen) .

5 . On the next screen, you will be notified that your ONX is now connected to S23 and ready to use . Tap the Start Using SafeCase button to proceed .

b . When prompted to confirm, tap the Allow option .

6 . On the Permission Required screen: a . Tap the Grant Permission button to allow the app to send you notifications (necessary for receiving ONX status updates) .

When setup has completed, the My SafeCase (home) screen of the app will open .

To activate your HDM Key:
1 . In the Privoro app, tap the Settings icon in the navigation bar .

Step 3: Activate Your HDM Key
ONX leverages Samsung’s Hardware Device Manager (HDM) for its hardware- tohardware integration with S23 . Activating this HDM integration requires a oneyear HDM subscription . As part of this subscription, you should have received a printed document containing your HDM Key from Privoro or your system administrator .
Note that once the HDM Key has been installed and activated on your S23:
· The activation cannot be reversed .
· The HDM Key cannot be used again .
· The HDM Key cannot be transferred to another phone .

2 . On the Settings screen, tap the HDM Key Management option .

3 . On the Activate HDM screen, toggle the Device Admin option to the right (allow) position .

4 . When prompted to confirm, tap the Activate option .

7 . On the Samsung Knox activation screen, tap the Agree button .

8 . On the HDM Activated screen, tap the Link SafeCase button .

An “HDM Activated” success message will display, along with the 30-digit subscription key .
Finally, you will be prompted to link SafeCase to your phone, which is necessary to allow SafeCase to securely control S23’s hardware . Note that linking cannot be reversed; once linked, SafeCase will only be able to control the linked phone’s hardware .

9 . In the confirmation message, tap the Link button .

Controlling S23 Cameras and Microphones
The cam/mic control button is used to securely disable (and reenable) S23’s cameras and microphones at a hardware level.

To disable/reenable S23’s cameras and microphones:
1 . Press and hold the cam/mic control button for three seconds, until the button’s LED pulses white, indicating the camera/microphone change is in process . After the cameras and microphones are confirmed disabled/enabled, a confirmation tone will play and the button’s LED will blink green (if disabled) or red (if enabled) .

VIA ONX
To verify camera and microphone disablement via ONX:
1 . Press the power button to display the current camera/microphone mode . When cameras and microphones are disabled, the cam/mic control button’s LED will be illuminated green .

You can verify that cameras and microphones have been successfully disabled via ONX or through manual verification .

VIA MANUAL CAMERA/MICROPHONE CAPTURE
To manually verify camera and microphone disablement:
1 . Using the Camera app on your S23, try recording a video . You should not be able to capture video or sound .

Controlling S23 Radios
The radio preset select button is used to disable (and reenable) S23’s radios ­ cellular (and GPS), WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC (coming 2024) ­ with high certainty.

For the sake of simplicity, radio configurations are available as presets . By default, the two available presets are cellular silent mode (cellular/GPS disabled) and radio silent mode (all radios disabled) . Note that your ONX administrator may choose to customize your available presets to suit particular use cases .

To disable/reenable one or more of S23’s radios:
1 . Press the radio preset select button to toggle through the three options ­ preset 1, preset 2 and all phone radios enabled (indicated by an icon of an emitting phone) ­ until the desired preset is reached, then press and hold the button for three seconds .

When moving from all phone radios enabled to a preset or back again, S23 will restart to securely apply the radio state change .
Note that when you have disabled one or more radios via ONX, you can only reenable them via ONX, not the phone . Attempts to reenable one or more radios through the Android operating system (via the notification panel or Settings app) will not be successful .

The preset number/icon will pulse white on the radio preset display as the phone is being rebooted . When the preset has been successfully applied, a confirmation tone will play and the preset number/icon will briefly flash green (for presets 1 or 2, indicating protections have been implemented) or red (for all phone radios enabled, indicating protections have not been implemented) .

If the radio state change is unsuccessful, “123” will flash red on the radio preset display . Try the process again .

To verify radio disablement via the Privoro app:
1 . In the Privoro app, tap the Settings icon in the navigation bar .

display the current radio preset in the radio preset display .

3 . On the HDM Profile screen, the name of the active radio preset will be displayed, along with an overview of that preset’s individual radio states .

To verify via S23 that cellular has been disabled:
1 . On your S23, open the Settings app .
2 . In the Settings app, tap the About phone option .

To verify via S23 that WiFi and/or Bluetooth have been disabled: 1 . On your S23, swipe down from the
top of the screen to open the notification panel and then verify that the WiFi and/or Bluetooth icons are grayed out .

Managing power

POWER ON/OFF
To power ONX on/off:
1 . Press and hold the power button for three seconds .

Check Battery Level
You can check ONX’s battery level via ONX or the Privoro app .
VIA ONX To check the battery level via ONX: 1 . Press the power button . The button’s
LED will illuminate a color corresponding to the current charge level ­ green (high), yellow (moderate) or red (low) .

A confirmation tone will play and all LEDs will briefly flash, indicating the power on/off sequence has started .

VIA THE PRIVORO APP To check the battery level via the Privoro app: 1 . In the Privoro app, locate the battery
level, displayed in the Case Battery Level field on the My SafeCase screen .

CHARGE Using the included USB-C cable, you will charge your ONX and S23 simultaneously . To charge your ONX and S23: 1 . Insert one end of the USB-C cable into
ONX’s USB-C port and the other end in a compatible USB-C power source, such as a computer or power adapter (minimum 10W) .

Adjusting settings
You may choose to change the brightness of the LEDs or turn them off completely.
To adjust LED brightness: 1 . Double-press the power button to
enable toggling, then press through the three brightness settings ­ bright, dim and off ­ until the desired setting is reached .

Removing S23 from ONX

To remove your S23 from ONX:
1 . Peel the slipcover off the top corners of S23 .

2 . Bending the slipcover back, slide S23 straight up off the USB-C connector .
