INSTRUCTION

Notes:

  • These instructions were written for a North American specification VW Mk6 GTI, but other models, like the VW GLI and Audi A3 are similar. If installing on a Passat, CC, or Tiguan, you will need a different mounting bracket, CI100035-C, sold separately.
  • If installing on a TT, you will need a different mounting bracket, CI100020-D, sold separately. These adapter brackets mount in the same location as the supplied bracket. If installing on a car without a Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF) like the EA888 engine, you will need to
  • install CI100020-E, sold separately.
  • When disassembling the car, be sure to keep all fasteners so they can be reused. It is recommend that you get some kind of compartmented tray to organize the fasteners, such as a fishing tackle box or several large ice cube trays. Fasteners that are not reused for reinstallation are noted in the instructions. All directions used in this manual (right, left, front, etc.) are based on if you were sitting in the drivers seat of the car.
  • These instructions assume that you have basic mechanical skills and several varieties of basic hand tools in order to install the kit. If you have any questions about the install, feel free to contact your APR representative.

INSTALLATION

  1. Lift up on the clips on both sides of the inlet scoop cover to remove the cover from the car.
  2. Lift up on the inlet elbow to separate it from the inlet scoop. Push down on the middle of the accordion section of the inlet elbow to release the inlet elbow from the bottom of the airbox, and remove the inlet elbow from the car.
  3. Press in the tabs on both sides of the inlet scoop, and rock the inlet scoop back to separate the inlet scoop from the radiator core support. Remove the inlet scoop from the car.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector to the factory MAF sensor. Unclip the MAF sensor harness from the back of the accordian inlet elbow.
  5. Squeeze the hose clamp holding the accordian inlet elbow to the back side of the MAF sensor, and slide the clamp off the MAF sensor. Separate the inlet elbow from the MAF sensor.
  6. Remove the 5mm allen screw from the back side of the airbox. This holds the airbox bottom in place, not the airbox cover.
  7. Lift the left side of the airbox up to pull off the rubber mounting post underneath. Lift the right side of the airbox from the other rubber mounting post to separate the airbox from the car.
  8. Raise the airbox out of the car, making sure to keep the coolant line on the right side from catching the airbox. As you lift up the airbox, be aware of the airbox drain on the left side that will come up with the airbox.
  9. Unscrew the two T25 screws holding the front of the airbox inlet scoop from the back of the radiator core support.
  10. Remove the two T30 screws holding the MAF sensor to the back of the factory airbox and remove the sensor and housing from the airbox.
  11. On the APR intake, remove the two lower, rear 3mm allen screws from the filter access panel on the back of the intake.
  12. Remove the rubber washers from the two previously removed 3mm allen screws. After putting some of the supplied blue thread locker on the screws, loosely install the supplied bracket with the two screws as shown.
  13. Using the supplied silicone coupler and two hose clamps, loosely install the MAF sensor to the back of the APR airbox in the same orientation as with the stock sensor.
  14. Mount the supplied “L” bracket to the right mounting point that the factory air scoop mounted to on the back of the radiator core support using one of the two original T25 screws.
  15. Loosely install the APR intake assembly in the car. Attach the according inlet elbow to the back of the MAF sensor housing and secure with the factory spring clamp.
  16. Loosely install the supplied 5mm allen screw with washer to hold the bracket on the back of the APR intake to the factory airbox mounting point.
  17. Using the supplied blue thread locker on the screws, install and tighten the two 3mm allen screws with washers to hold the front “L” bracket to the mounting boses on the front right of the APR intake. If installing on a Passat, CC, or Tiguan, you will need a different mounting bracket, CI100035-C, sold separately. This adapter bracket mounts in the same location as the supplied bracket.
  18. If necessary, adjust the length of the silicone coupler between the MAF housing and the APR intake so the rear accordion inlet tube sits in its original position. Tighten the two hose clamps on the silicone coupler, and then tighten the 5mm allen holding the rear APR bracket to the factory airbox mounting point.
  19. Tighten the two 3mm fallen screws holding the rear APR bracket to the intake.
  20. Reconnect the electrical connector to the MAF sensor. Reclip the MAF sensor wiring harness back onto the accordian inlet tube.
  21. If equipped with Secondary Air Injection, clip the APR secondary air filter (Sold separately as CI100020-A) into the factory fitting on the end of the secondary air pipe. Bend the pipe to tuck it out of the way and secure it with the supplied cable ties.
