UVC Units – test & maintenance

V.2024-03

AQUADISTRI V.2024-03 UVC Units - a1

  • Pictures in this document come from a test on a filter + UVC Topclear Kit 5000, model March 2024 (green lock), and filter + UVC Topclear Kit 10000, model 2021 (red lock)
  • Most of our UVC units work on the same principle : even if the filter you have a request on is not the same model, the test process is the same !

Important Notes

ALWAYS UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT OF YOUR POND BEFORE ANY MAINTENANCE !

UVC RADIATION CAN CAUSE SEVERE, IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO YOUR EYES: NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY INTO AN OPERATING UV LAMP. WEAR THE RECOMMENDED PPE, OR PERFORM TESTS USING A NON-UVC LAMP.

PROPER EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE ENSURES LONG EQUIPMENT LIFE AND WARRANTY COVERAGE!

WE RECOMMANDE, EVERY YEAR, TO CHANGE THE UVC LAMP AND TO CLEAN THE QUARTZ WITH A DESCALING PRODUCT (PUMP & UVC CLEAN ® OR WATER + WHITE VINEGAR SOLUTION)

WHEN CLEANING THE QUARTZ, ALSO CHECK THE RINGS STATE !

1. UVC with Green lock (>02/2024)

A. Access to the UVC ballast

AQUADISTRI V.2024-03 UVC Units - b1

  1. Here is the filter top. Take out the grey cover by pulling it up.
  2. We can now see the UVC head in the UV housing.
  3. Pull up the green lock, then turn the UV head on the left
    (counterclockwise)
B. Taking out the quartz and the lamp

Here is the UVC head out of its housing.

Unscrew the small screw blocking the black ring.

Unscrew the ring and take it out by sliding it to the top of the lamp.
Keep all parts in a safe place to avoid losing them !

Carefully remove the quartz from the UV block, pulling it upwards.
A silicone sleeve seals the block, so it may be a little difficult to remove. Take care not to break the glass!

Carefully remove the UV lamp by pulling it upward. Take out the black ring and the metal ring.

C. Reassemble the UV head

Proceed to the same steps as in page 4 (B. Taking out the quartz and the lamp), but backwards. Ensure that everything is watertight, and don’t forget to put back the 2 rings (1xblack and 1xmetal) on your new lamp.

When tightening the black ring, make sure the notch for the screw fits over the hole!

Once correctly reassembled, insert the UV block into its housing. With the safety catch (round magnet) facing you, insert the block slightly turned to the left, with the green lock on the right.

Turn the block clockwise. At the point shown in the photo, you’ll feel resistance as the notches make contact. Press firmly on the block so that its entire base is in contact with the housing, then continue turning to the right until you hear a click.

Push down the green lock. That’s it ! The UVC head is back on.

D. Testing the UVC operation
  • All our UV-C systems are equipped with an eye safety device: UVC radiation is very dangerous for the eyes, so if the UV is not in its housing, the lamp switches off automatically.
  • An indicator light, visible from the outside, tells you whether the lamp is working :
  • If you need to test the electrical operation of the ballast, this is still possible.
  • Precautions: if possible, use a lighting lamp with the same base and Watts as the UV lamp. This way, there’s no danger to your eyes. Otherwise, equip yourself with the appropriate protection and make sure you don’t look directly at the UV lamp.
  • Remove the UV unit from its housing
  • Connect the plug to the mains: the lamp won’t light up – it’s the eye-safety.

Place a magnet (strong enough, in this case an aquarium cleaning magnet) on the flat side of the ballast: the lamp will then light up.
REMINDER: protect your eyes from UVC radiation! NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT A UV LAMP.
DIRECTEMENT.

2. UVC with red lock (<02/2024)

A. Access to the UV ballast

AQUADISTRI V.2024-03 UVC Units - c1

  1. Here is the filter top. Take out the grey cover by pulling it up.
  2. We can now see the UVC head in the UV housing.
  3. Pull up the red lock, then turn the UV head on the left
    (counterclockwise)
B. Taking out the quartz and the UV lamp

Unscrew the small screw that secures the clamping ring.

Unscrew the ring and slide it upwards.
Keep all parts in a safe place to avoid losing them!

Carefully remove the quartz by pulling it upwards.

Carefully remove the UV lamp by pulling it upwards. Remove the black rings at the top and base of the lamp.

Be sure to keep the 2 black rings: the one at the base of the lamp helps seal the electrical block!

C. Reassemble the UV head

Follow the same steps as on page 9 (B. Remove quartz and bulb), but backwards. Make sure the assembly is tightly sealed, and remember to replace the 2 black rings on the new bulb.

Tighten the black ring until you feel resistance, making sure the screw hole is accessible through one of the ring’s notches.

Once correctly reassembled, insert the UV block into its housing. With the safety catch (plastic nipple) facing you, insert the block slightly turned to the left, with the red lock on the right.

Turn the block clockwise. At the point shown in the photo, you’ll feel resistance as the notches make contact. Press firmly on the block so that its entire base is in contact with the housing, then continue turning to the right until you hear a click.

Push down the red lock. That’s it ! The UVC head is back on.

E. Testing the UVC operation
  • Remove the UV unit from its housing
  • Connect the plug to the mains: the lamp won’t light up – it’s the eye-safety.

Using a FLAT, NON-SLIP tool (to avoid damaging the membrane), press the membrane into the notch at the point indicated on the left: the lamp will light up.
REMINDER: protect your eyes from UVC radiation! NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT A UV LAMP.
