CLOSURE INSTRUCTIONS
Pursuant to the requirements of the Department of Transportation in CFR 49 Part 178.2(c)(1), this method of closure should be used to ensure that containers have been closed in the same manner as when they were initially tested.
RING CLOSURE INSTRUCTIONS
-
Each IBC is equipped with an emergency vent in the container lid which fits on the top opening. This vent must be inspected before each shipment, and must be replaced if faulty.
-
Inspect container lid and gaskets for damage, and replace if necessary. The container lid is installed on the top opening with a clamp ring.
NOTE: Use a non-sparking mallet to ensure the clamp ring is fully secured on the gasket and lid. The mallet should be used to strike in a horizontal position (towards the side of the clamp ring) first starting at the twelve o’clock position, then three, nine, five and ending at seven. -
After tightening bolt to a torque of 30 foot pounds, the lock nut must be firmly tightened into place.
PLUG AND VENT
- The 2″ bung plug, and the 3″ fill cap, both require a gasket to seal and be tightened to a torque of 30 foot pounds for proper sealing.
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
NOTE: Uline does not ship containers to customers with closures secured to
compliance specification. It is the responsibility of the individual who fills
the container to ensure the container is in UN compliance
before shipping. Contact Uline with questions regarding proper closing
methods.
CAUTION! Use only the plugs and gaskets supplied with the IBC. Insert and
tighten all plugs into theirappropriate threaded flanges until snug. Using a
torque wrench, tighten each fitting to the correct torque.
Torque is based on the manufacturer’s closure recommendations. IBC tanks
closed in this manner meet the UN performance-oriented packaging standards
test requirements for the container markings shipped.
CAUTION! After filling and prior to transport, the shipper should check the closures to determine if closuresneed to be tightened due to heating, cooling or gasket relaxation.
