kogan KASHWLGRGDA Smarthome Wireless Garage Door Opener

OVERVIEW

The Kogan Smart Wireless Garage Door Opener is a companion to your existing door opener. It allows your door opener to be controlled and monitored with a smartphone or tablet.

Confirm the following before installation:

Button Functions

1. Reset the Device

  • If the Wi-Fi indicator doesn’t flash red, press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds, it will flash red, this means it was reset successfully. Resetting
  • will clear the Wi-Fi configuration and door sensor pairing.

2. Switch Wi-Fi configuration mode
If the Wi-Fi indicator flashes red, press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds. The device will switch into Wi-Fi configuration mode and the Wi-Fi indicator will flash rapidly or slowly according the mode.

3. Clear door sensor pairing
If the Wi-Fi indicator flashes green or stays solid green, press and hold the button for 10 seconds, the Wi-Fi indicator will flash blue, and the door sensor is cleared from controller.

Compatibility

Chamberlain or Lift Master|

  • All models with security+ are not compatible.

  • All models with assurance+ 2.0 are not compatible.

Genie| Compatible models:

  • Genie Series II openers – best identified by the wall console button(s), which are a non-black colour. This covers the vast majority of Genie openers.

Incompatible models:

  • Genie Series III openers – best identified by the wall console button(s), which are black.

Linear|

  • All models are compatible.

Marantec|

  • All models are compatible.

Overhead Door| Compatible models:

  • Series II openers– best identified by the wall console button(s), which are a non-black colour.

Incompatible models:

  • Series III – best identified by the wall console button(s), which are black.

Stanley|

  • All models are compatible.

Wayne Dalton|

  • All models are compatible.
**Checking compatibility by yourself

**

Take a wire with both ends stripped or a pliers and put each end to the same terminals as the wall button wires are terminated to (Terminal #A and Terminal

B, See the figure above). By doing so, if your door activates, then your door

opener is compatible with the device. If the door does not activate, then the opener is not compatible by default.

INSTALLATION

Note: Please power off your garage door opener before installing the device.

  1. Connect the cables of the controller to your garage door opener terminals, which should be connected to the wall button. If you have installed a wall button, please twist them together.

Connect the wire of the controller to your garage door opener terminal which should be connected to the wall button.

Install the door sensor

Stick the sensor on the top flap of your garage door, please make sure that the direction of the sensor is correct.

Note: Power on the device and check the controller’s Wi-Fi indicator light after you have installed the door sensor. It should be solid green. If it flashes in blue, please try to control the door, the controller will link the sensor automatically.

**How to link the door sensor to the controller if the door indicator

is not correct**

Please set based on the controller’s indicator:

  • If it is red, please configure the Wi-Fi connection first, then go to the next step.
  • If it flashes in green, please check the Wi-Fi configuration, then go to the next step.
  • If it is solid green, press and hold the reset button of the controller for 10 seconds until it flashes blue, then go to the next step.
  • If it flashes blue, make sure that you have installed the sensor on the door correctly.
    Open the door or close the door and the sensor will be paired with controller automatically.

Note: The sensor only supports sectional doors, and does not support roller doors.

Testing

Power on the device and the garage door opener. Open or close the door and check it in the app. If the door position is not correct after you operate the door four or more times, it means something wrong. Please try the following steps to rectify:

  1. Press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds until it flashes in red to reset the device.
  2. Add the device through the Smarter Home app again, the Wi-Fi indicator light will flash in blue after you add it successfully.
  3. Close or open the door, the Wi-Fi indicator light will be solid green which means it is working now.
  4. Operate the door through Smarter Home app for three times again, check the door position in the app.
  5. If the steps above failed, please contact Kogan for help.

APP INSTALLATION

Download the “Smarter Home” app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).

Register
If you do not have a “Smarter Home” application’s account, register or sign in with a verification code sent by SMS.

To register:

  1. Tap to enter registration page.
  2. The system automatically recognizes your country/area. You can also select your country code manually. Enter your mobile phone number/email address and tap “Next”.
  3. If you choose the mobile phone number option, then enter the verification code in the message sent to you by SMS. Set a password as prompted and press “Confirm” to finish your registration.

Adding the device through network

  1. Plug in the device to the socket and power the Kogan Garage Door Opener device on and check that the Wi-Fi indicator is rapidly blinking in red. If not, long-press the Wi-Fi button for 3 seconds to reset the device.
  2. Open the Smarter Home app and tap “+” in the upper right to add a new device through the network.
  3. Ensure the device’s Wi-Fi indicator rapidly flashes and tap “Confirm indicator rapidly blinking”.
  4. Select Kogan Garage Door Opener.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi network and return to the “Smarter Home” app.

The device will commence the pairing process and connect to the app.

Note: The Wi-Fi network must be the 2.4GHz band. 5GHz networks will not work.

After successfully configuring the devices, the device will be show on the home page. Tap to enter its control page. The device’s Wi-Fi indicator light will flash blue.

Note:

  • When the device is online it can be controlled.
  • When device is offline, it displays “Offline” and cannot be remotely powered on.
  • The garage door opener does not support 5GHz networks, ensure your Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz.
  • If you can’t add the device to the app successfully, please contact Kogan for help and don’t proceed to the next step.
More functions of the Application

There are two setting options for you to set automated scenes.

  1. One option is to add the device to the “condition” list to trigger your other smart devices.
  2. Another option is that add the device to the “action” list to be triggered by other conditions.

GOOGLE HOME

Note: You will need to have set up a Google Home account prior to linking your Kogan Smarter Home device.

  1.  In the “Home Control” screen, select the icon to set up device;

  2. Select “set up device” to add new device, then select “works with Google”;

  3. A list will appear showing actions and a search function to access more apps: from here, install the SmarterHome app.

  4. Log into your SmarterHome account with your email address or mobile number.

  5. Once linked, it will show the devices linked to your account: you can assign them to rooms. You will be prompted to authorize apps to sync.

  6. Click “Done” and then it will give you a list of commands available.

  7. When successfully linked, you will see it on your “Home Control” screen at the

Voice command

“Ok Google, open (—)” OR “Ok Google, close (—)”. If the voice command above doesn’t work, please try “Ok Google, turn on (—)” OR “Ok Google, turn off (—)”.

Note: “—” is the device name. It is suggested that you rename the device to a simple but uncommon name.

ALEXA

Note: You will need to have set up an Alexa account prior to linking your Kogan Smarter Home device.

  1. Select “Menu” and then “Skills”.
  2. Search for the app and enable it.
  3. Log into your Smarter Home account with your email address or mobile number.
  4. Select “Discover Devices” and the app will begin searching.
  5. When successfully linked, you will see a list of connected Kogan Smarter Home devices. You can now control your Kogan Smarter Home devices through Alexa with your voice. Use the voice commands:
    ● “Alexa, Turn on (—)” OR “Alexa, Turn off (—)”

Note: “—” is the device name. It is suggested that you rename the device to a simple but uncommon name.
