Installation

Determine Gate Opening

Gate opening is determined by width of gate plus clearance for hinge (2″) plus clearance for latch (see latch instructions for details) (Fig. 1).

Mount Hinge on Gate

NOTE:
Gate can be adjusted to swing up to 160º. When mounting gate on left gate post, head of tension adjustment pin and “+ or -” symbol on hinge should be facing up. Hinges have a self-closing feature, which can be disabled if desired (see hinge tension adjustment).
a. Place hinges at desired positions on gate upright with a minimum spacing of 32″ between each hinge.
b. Remove nuts from 13/8″ U-clamps and slide ends of U-clamps through mounting holes in gate plate, as shown (Fig. 2).

NOTE:
If gate upright is larger than 13/8″ in diameter, you must purchase the appropriately sized U-clamp, nuts and washers.*
c. Thread nuts onto U-clamp ends and tighten with 9/16″ or 14 mm wrench (Fig. 3)

Mount Gate on Post

NOTE:
Both gate posts must be plumb and level prior to gate installation.
a. Position gate at desired height on post.
b. Measure space between ground and bottom of gate and cut (2) wood spacer blocks for this height (Fig. 4).

c. Rest gate on the spacer blocks
d. Remove nuts from the 21/2″ U-clamps and slide ends of U-clamps through mounting holes in post plate, as shown (Fig. 5)

NOTE: If post is less than 21/2″ in diameter, you must purchase the appropriately sized U-clamp, nuts and washers.*
e. Thread nuts onto U-clamp ends and tighten with a 9/16″ or 14 mm wrench

Horizontal adjustment

Gate can be adjusted horizontally, if required.
a. Loosen (but DO NOT remove) the (2) adjustment screws with the included allen wrench (Fig. 6).
b. Move the gate to the left or right, as desired.
c. Re-tighten the (2) adjustment screws

Tension adjustment: (Fig. 7)
NOTE: HINGE TENSION IS PRE-SET AT THE FACTORY and usually DOES NOT REQUIRE ADJUSTMENT. If you wish to change tension setting/gate swing speed, or completely disable the self-closing feature, please see the following:

Fig. 6 Allen Wrench

Hinge Tension Adjustment

a. Place included Allen wrench into head of tension adjustment pin in hinge. The head is at the end closest to the + or – symbol on the hinge barrel (Fig. 7).

NOTE:
DO NOT
remove the Allen wrench or release the tension on the tension adjustment pin at any time during the adjustment.
b. Following the indicators on the + or – symbol on the hinge barrel, press down on the tension adjustment pin and turn toward the + to tighten, or toward the – to loosen (Fig. 7). Self-closing feature can be disabled by using the Allen wrench to push down and turn towards the “-” symbol until the gate no longer shuts on its own.Do not over-tighten or over-loosen the tension adjustment pin, as this may damage the tension spring.
c. When you have set the desired tension, simply release the downward pressure on the tension adjustment pin to lock it back into the hinge barrel. Tabs on pin head will fit into notches in hinge barrel when pin is in fully locked position (Fig. 8).
