genaray SSL-MINI-B Bicolor Mini Soft Strip LED Light
INTRODUCTION
THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING GENARAY
The Genaray SSL-MINI-B is a strip LED with a unique form factor that provides
even illumination along its entire length. It excels as a light for closeups
and portraits, and it’s an excellent choice for hair or accent lighting too.
The bright LED array has an integrated diffuser for a soft wraparound, single-
shadow beam. The fixture’s full-length barndoors can cut the beam to a very
narrow strip, which gives precise control over light and shadow on subjects or
backgrounds.
The SSL-MINI-B runs on AC or battery power. Integrated controls adjust output
level from 0% to 100% in 1% increments for precise brightness control, and
color temperature from 3000 to 5600 K in 50 K increments for matching ambient
lighting or other light fixtures in your setup. Silent, fanless cooling means
this light won’t create fan noise that can disrupt a video shoot.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Attaching the Lollipop Mount
- Close the barndoors, and place the light facedown on a flat surface.
- Align the lollipop adapter with the mounting plate, and insert the pins into the mounting plate holes.
- Make sure the lollipop mount is flush with the mounting plate, and rotate the lollipop mount a quarter-turn clockwise until it clicks in place.
Tip: To remove the Lollipop mount, press the release latch, rotate the mount a quarter-turn counterclockwise, and lift it off the mounting plate.
Mounting the SSL-MINI-B to a Light Stand
The SSL-MINI-B has a two-way 5/8-inch receiver that can mount to a light stand vertically or horizontally.
- Make sure the ratchet handle is tightened before mounting the light.
- Loosen the locking knob, and place the 5/8-inch receiver on a light stand.
- Tighten the locking knob until secure.
- Loosen the ratchet handle to adjust the light’s tilt and swivel. Once the light is aimed, retighten the ratchet handle, and make sure the fixture is secure.
Tip: To prevent the light stand from tipping over, place a counterweight like a sandbag over one or two legs of your light stand. The SSL-MINI-B can be powered directly from an AC outlet or with two NP-F batteries (not included).
Using the SSL-MINI-B with AC Power
- Connect the AC adapter’s power cord to the SSL-MINI-B.
- Use the power cable to plug the power adapter into an outlet. The light on the power adapter will glow green to indicate it’s receiving power.
Important: The SSL-MINI-B will work only with both batteries installed.
The SSL-MINI-B can be powered with Sony NP-F style batteries (sold separately), allowing you to avoid cable clutter or work in a location without electrical outlets. NP-F 7.4 V batteries are recommended, however the SSL- MINI-B will work with most NP-F batteries.
Installing the batteries
- Make sure the power switch is off, and the fixture is not plugged into a wall outlet.
- Place the batteries into the battery compartments so their terminals are facing the battery contacts.
- Slide the batteries toward the battery contacts until they lock into place.
To remove the batteries, press the battery release button, slide the batteries away from the contacts, and lift them out of the compartments.
ADJUSTING THE LIGHT
Brightness
Press the Dimmer button and turn the value dial to adjust to the desired
brightness from 0% to 100% in 1% increments.
Color Temperature
The SSL-MINI-B has a color temperature range of 3000 to 5600 K. Press the CCT
button and turn the value dial to adjust color temperature in 50 K increments.
Barndoors
Adjust the barndoor flaps to aim or shape the beam and contain light spill.
Important: Do not operate the light while the barndoors are closed.\
WIRELESS OPERATION
The SSL-MINI-B has an integrated receiver with four channels. Genaray lights that are equipped with remote capability can be controlled individually or globally with the SSL-RC remote (sold separately). The Genaray SSL-RC remote can control multiple SSL-MINI-B lights as well as other lights in the SSL series.
REMOTE
Refer to the Genaray SSL-RC user manual for setup and operation instructions. On the SSL-MINI-B, press the Channel button and select a channel with the value dial. Make sure the SSL-MINI-B and the SSL-RC remote are set to the same channel.
