Bright Beast INTRODUCTION

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING GENARAY
The Genaray Bright Beast is a 1×1 bi-color panel that uses 256 LEDs to throw an ultrabright, flicker-free light that’s ideal for photo and video shoots. It operates on AC power or a single V-mount battery, and it features 0% to 100% dimming for a full 6 stops of light. Built-in Bluetooth, DMX, and an AC adapter give you an all-in-one unit that needs no extra components or accessories for full functionality.

The Bright Beast supports DMX-512 so the light’s settings can be remotely controlled from a DMX console. It has 512 selectable channels and a 5-pin XLR output jack to daisy-chain other DMX-compatible lights. The Bright Beast can also be controlled via Bluetooth with the Bright Beast app, which will let you operate the light from 30 feet away.
For compatibility in the studio, the yoke can be mounted to a light stand with a baby pin or junior pin.

INSTRUCTIONS

POWERING THE BRIGHT BEAST
FROM AN AC OUTLET The Bright Beast can be powered directly from an AC outlet or by a V-mount battery (not included).

USING THE BRIGHT BEAST WITH AC POWER Connect the AC power cable to the Bright Beast by aligning the tabs and inserting the cam lock into the AC input. Turn the cam lock a quarter-turn to the right until it clicks. Power on the Bright Beast by flipping the power switch to the AC position. To unplug the AC cable, pull the AC release, twist the cam lock a quarter-turn to the left, and slide the plug out of the socket.
USING THE BRIGHT BEAST WITH BATTERY POWER
The Bright Beast can be powered by a V-mount battery.
When attaching the battery, make sure the power switch is in the center Off (O) position, and the fixture is not plugged into a wall outlet. Once the battery is mounted, flip the power switch to the DC position to power on the light.

Anton-Bauer batteries can be used by connecting them to the Bright Beast with an adapter plate (sold separately).
The battery status indicator on the LCD display shows the remaining battery power.

Tip
The battery loses some of its charge when not in use. If the battery has not been in use for several months, Genaray recommends fully recharging the battery before a shoot.

OPERATING THE FAN

The Bright Beast is outfitted with a manual fan control. The fan is extremely quiet, but it can be switched off if a microphone is picking up some fan noise.

  • When the fan power switch is in the On position (|), the lights’ brightness can be adjusted to 100%.
  • When the fan power switch is in the Off position (O), the light’s maximum brightness is 50%.
USER INTERFACE

SELECTING AN OPERATING MODE
The Bright Beast has three operating modes: CCT, Effects, and Bluetooth Reset.
Press the Mode Selector button repeatedly to cycle through and select a mode.
Fast and Slow Scrolling Settings
The scrolling rate setting lets you rapidly scroll to a color temperature and brightness or fine-tune the settings.
Press and hold the Mode Selector button for 3 seconds to select Fast or Slow settings. An F or an S will appear onscreen to indicate the setting.

  • Selecting Fast lets you adjust the color temperature in 100 K increments, and brightness in 10% increments.
  • Selecting Slow lets you fine-tune the color temperature in 50 K increments, and brightness in 1% increments.
CCT MODE

CCT mode allows you to adjust color temperature and brightness.

  • Turn the Mode/Brightness Dial to adjust the brightness.
  • Turn the Color/Set Dial to change the color temperature from 3000 to 5600 K.

Press the Color/Set Dial repeatedly to highlight the scene, and turn it to select one of the 9 preloaded effects.

EDITING THE EFFECT
When you select an effect, it immediately begins playing.
Pressing the Color/Set Dial selects between DMX channel, scene, speed, and brightness.
DMX Channel: Set the DMX channel between 000 and 512. (See Using DMX below)
Speed: Determines how rapidly the effect plays or cycles. Select between 0 (slowest) and 10 (fastest).
Brightness: Select between 0% to 100%.

EFFECTS

Lightning 2: Simulates lightning with a cycle of seven long and short bursts.

Candle Light: Simulates the light of a candle or fireplace. A constant warm white light randomly switches and fades at random intervals between a set range of brightnesses.

Flash Light: Simulates multiple camera flashes with short bursts of white light.

Strobe: Rapid, even bursts of white light.

Far and Near Light: A steady pulse of bright white light with equal intervals of on and off.

Alarm: A steady pulse of warm white light with equal intervals of on and off.

Heartbeat: Warm white light fades on and off with a steady rhythmic pulse.

USING DMX

The Bright Beast supports DMX-512 so the light’s settings can be remotely controlled by a DMX lighting control console.
To set up DMX operation on the Bright Beast, follow these steps:

  1. Use a 5-pin XLR cable to connect a DMX controller to the Bright Beast’s DMX input jack.
  2. Use the Bright Beast’s DMX output jack to connect multiple lights or to insert a DMX terminator.
  3. Set a DMX address by selecting Effects or Bluetooth Reset mode. Press the Color/Set Dial until the DMX channel is highlighted, and turn the dial to set the DMX address.

Important! You will need two consecutive DMX addresses for each light, one to adjust the light intensity, and another to adjust the color temperature. Make sure the DMX address of the Bright Beast matches the DMX console.
