ATTENTION!
Center column segments with preload!
When opening the tripod locks (4), make sure that you keep enough distance to
the upper end of the stand and do not bend over. On delivery state, the
springs in the segments of the center column stands under spring tension. To
achieve the mini-mum packing size, the internally installed spring damping
elements are slightly pushed together in the delivery state and then locked.
This results in a pretension of the central column segments. When the locking
clamps are opened, the center column elements can shoot out up to 30 cm. This
can lead to injuries!
Setting up the lamp stand
Loosen the locking screw of the tripod lock (5). Pull the tripod legs (8) outwards and press the tripod star (6) downwards. This spreads the legs. Set the desired angle of the tripod legs. Fix the tripod legs by tightening the tripod lock screw (5). Proceed in reverse order when folding the stand.
WARNING
Risk of squeezing fingers between struts and the tripod legs (7).
Height adjustment
The tripod is equipped with a telescopic center column which can be extended. The locking clamps of the center column (3) are fixed by the tripod locks (4). To adjust the height of the tripod, loosen the tripod locks (4) by turning counterclockwise.
Warning: Risk of Injury. When opening the center pillar locks, please
note the previous safety instruction. The central column segments are under
tension when pushed together and can shoot out by up to 30cm when opened. Keep
enough distance from the top of the tripod and do not lean over the tripod.
When opening the tripod lock, hold the rod above it securely to prevent it
from shooting out.
Set to the desired height and tighten the screws again. Press the center
column elements down to check if all locks are fixed correctly. The stand is
now ready to use.
Position the stands where you will need them.
Mounting of the crossbeam (without background)
The crossbeam consists of five elements. In any case you’ll need two end pieces (one without a spigot 98 cm, and one with spigot 99,5 cm). You can optionally also use up to three middle pieces (with spigot, 99,5 cm each) to bring the crossbeam to the desired length.
Assemble the crossbeam by taking the end piece without spigot and either an end piece or a middle piece with spigot. Note the flattened sections on the spigot and on the corresponding crossbeam element. Insert the spigot fully into the opening of the crossbeam element, then turn until the little arrows on the stickers align.
Repeat this with the other elements until your crossbeam is complete.
Open the wing nut on the tripod and take it together with the shim.
Set the crossbar eyelet onto the bolt so that the bolt goes all the way
through.
Replace the shim and screw the wing nut back on again.
WARNING
Risk of injury by improper use! When unlocking the telescopic sections, they
can slide out and hurt someone. When mounting a crossbeam, it could topple or
fall and hurt someone.
WARNING
Mount paper backgrounds, backcloths or ornamental elements only directly on
the pole. Never use ropes or other means to brace a roof- or tent-like
structure from the background systems. The whole system could topple.
NOTICE
A crossbeam must always be level to the ground, never slanted.
Mounting rolling core based backgrounds
Set up the tripods. Assemble the crossbeam to the desired length. Thread cross-beam trough rolling core carefully. Mount crossbeam to tripods.
NOTICE
For mounting rolling cores, you need a second person to help.
Height adjustment of a mounted background system
If a rolling core is mounted, roll up the background and secure against
unrolling. Get a second person to help.
With one hand, each person grip the upper end of a tripod so that the
crossbeam is resting securely on your hand. With the other hand, loosen the
desired tripod lock and raise or lower the tripod elements to the desired
height. Tighten the tripod lock.
NOTICE
Adjust the height of the system preferably with the help of a second person.
To adjust the height alone, raise or reduce the height on both tripods in turn
by 5 cm at the most until you reach the desired height.
Moving the background system
If you use a rolling core background, roll up the background and secure it against unrolling. Remove any weights you might have in use to secure the tripods, and put them in the new location. Remove backcloths or ornamental elements. Get a second person to help.
With one hand, each person grip the upper end of the tripod’s central column right below the crossbeam, so that the crossbeam rests on the back of each person’s hand. With the other hand, also grab the tripod’s central column. Lift a few centi-meters carefully. Move the background system to its new location and set it down carefully. Mount the weights again, if you use any. Unroll the background or mount the backcloth or ornamental elements.
NOTICE
Move the mounted background system only with the help of a second person. When
setting it down in the new location, be careful not to cant it, not to set it
up tilted or in any other way that puts stress or tension on the system. For
distances longer than a few steps, disassemble the background system and set
it up anew at the next location.
-
Using the tripods
Without the crossbeam, the tripods function as full-featured lamp stands. -
Removal of the 5/8“ spigot
To remove the 5/8“ spigot from the tripod, first loosen the adapter and then press the adapter lock while removing the spigot. To put on the spigot, proceed in reverse order. -
Installation of equipment on the crossbeam
The crossbeam must be mounted correctly, before equipment or ornamental elements may be attached to it. The tripods must stand stable on a level surface.
CAUTION
The middle elements of the pole are rotatable. Equipment may only be mounted
to the pole in a hanging configuration.
WARNING
Mind the maximum load capacity of the background system of 12 kg!
See technical specifications.
Recommended accessories, some for increased stability
When using heavy equipment in combination with large extension height, we
recommend additional accessories for stabilization, for example the use of
special sandbags or weights.
You will find suitable accessory articles in our web shop www.foto-
walser.de:
- 15537 Walimex pro sand bag
- 15876 Walimex stand weight, 3 kg
- 13739 Walimex weight for rods and boom stands, 4.4 kg
- 16417 Walimex Studio Clip, set of 5
Usage notes and maintenance of the tripod
-
Note that lamp stands generally must be placed on a sufficiently strong, level surface to ensure maximum stability and maximum load.
-
Note the maximum load capacity of your tripod model (see technical specifications).
-
Note that the max. load values are specified for centrally mounted equipment on the stand.
-
At high altitude, the maximum load value is significantly lower due to leverage. Use the system up to a height of 4.00 m. Please spread the weight evenly over the entire width of the crossbar.
-
Regular removal of sand, dust and other contaminants is recommended. If you notice a scratching or crunching sound when moving the center column segments, remove the impurities with a soft, damp cloth.
-
Hold the center column segment with one hand during the release of the locks before you loosen one adjustment clamp.
Usage notes and maintenance of pole -
Generally, all parts of the telescopic pole are maintenance-free. Regular removal of sand, dust and other contaminants is recommended.
-
Do not move a stand or background system with mounted equipment and ex-tended center column. There is a strong leverage effect when combining heavy equipment and a large center column extension. The background system can topple very quickly, any equipment mounted may get damaged, and persons in the area may get hurt.
