Important

You should use water with a hardness of max. 4° dH in order to protect your machine from lime scale damage. When necessary, make use of a water softener / water filter cartridge in order to reach an adequate hardness degree. If these measures are insufficient, a prophylactic descaling of the machine may be necessary. Contact your specialised dealer before undertaking this measure.

An already calcified machine may only be descaled by your specialised dealer because a partial disassembly of the boiler and the tubing will be necessary to prevent the system from being blocked by lime residues. A late descaling may cause substantial damage to the machine.

MACHINE INSTALLATION

Preparation for installation

  • Place the machine on an even, water-resistant and stable surface.
  • Never place the machine on hot surfaces.

Electrical connection

  • Make sure that the local main voltage supply corresponds to the information given on the type plate on the front panel of the espresso machine.
  • Make sure that you use the correct power plug for your country.
  • Plug the machine into a grounded socket only and do not leave it unattended.
  • Do not roll or bend the power cord.
  • Do not use an extension cord / do not use a multiple socket.

FIRST USE

Read the instruction manual carefully prior to operating the machine.

Prior to starting the machine, check if:

  • the steam/hot water valve is closed.
  • the switch and buttons are not activated.
  • the power cord is disconnected.
  • the drip tray is inserted accurately.
  • the machine is placed on a water resistant surface.

Now you can begin to operate your machine:

  1. Remove the lid of the water tank.

  2. Fill the water tank with fresh water, preferably deficient in  lime. Replace the lid of the water tank.

  3. Insert the power plug into the wall socket and press the power switch. The machine is now on.
    Important!
For the initial set-up the boiler has to be filled.

  4. Place a small container (e. g. a frothing pitcher) under the steam/hot water valve. Open the steam valve and press the pump/hot water switch (Image 1 – no.8). There will be a pump sound. Now the boiler is filling with water. When using the machine for the first time, it can take a few seconds before the water comes out of the steam valve. Before preparing the first coffee, please rinse the machine by extracting about 2-3 water tank fillings. For daily use, let approx. 300 ml of water run out, this will rinse the boiler and fill it with fresh water. Switch off the pump/hot water switch and close the steam/hot water valve.

  5. The machine heats up and the orange control lamp for heating control lights up.

  6. As soon as the optimum temperature is reached, the heating shuts off automatically and the control lamp for heating control switches off. The indicator of the pump pressure gauge may move slightly during the heat-up phase.

  7. Clamp the empty portafilter into the brew group in order to preheat the filter and the portafilter. You can accelerate this process by dispensing water from the brew group.

  8. The machine is now ready for use. Place the cups on the cup heating tray in order to preheat them.

**** Please note that the portafilter, drip tray and water tank are not suitable for the dishwasher.

USE OF THE MACHINE

Preparation of the machine

The switched off machine is to be placed into operation as follows:

  1. Make sure that there is sufficient water in the water tank.
  2. Make sure that the switches are in the off position and the  steam/hot water valve is closed.
  3. Turn the machine on (push the power switch).
  4. The heating period depends on the ambient temperature and is approx. 5-7 minutes. The indicator of the pump pressure gauge may move slightly during the heat-up phase.
  5. The machine is ready for use. The control lamp for heating switches off.
  6. Insert the portafilter, activate the coffee button and dispense some hot water. This way, the portafilter will be completely heated.

It is recommended to leave the portafilter in the brew group, keeping it warm for optimal coffee dispension temperature.

Manual adjustment of the brewing pressure

You can individually adjust and change the brewing pressure by turning the adjusting screw, choosing a value between approx. 8.5 and 12 bar.

To adjust the brewing pressure, proceed as follows:

  1. Remove the cup warming tray, take some water out of the brew group by pressing the coffee button.
  2. Place the portafilter with the blind filter into the brew group.
  3. Push the coffee button and read the pump pressure gauge.
  4. Choose the desired brewing pressure by turning the adjusting screw with a coin or a flat screwdriver.
  5. You can reduce the brewing pressure by turning the screw anti clockwise and increase it by turning it clockwise.
  6. Read the pump pressure gauge to see the chosen brewing pressure.
  7. Press the coffee button to stop the machine.
  8. Now the machine is ready for use again.

Preparing coffee

Use the portafilter with the corresponding filter (1 cup) for the preparation of 1 cup and use the big filter (2 cups) to prepare two cups. Make sure that the filter is firmly locked into the portafilter.

Fill the ground coffee with the respective grind for espresso into the filter. (The marking inside the filter basket can help you find the right amount of coffee.)

Compress the ground coffee with the tamper. A tamping pressure of approx. 20 kg is recommended. Thus the ground coffee is evenly compacted. Clamp the portafilter firmly into the brew group.

Place the cup under the spouts of the portafilter (to prepare two cups, place one cup under each spout).

The coffee preparation can begin after having pressed the coffee button. In general, the brewing time should be around 23 to 25 seconds. The volume for a single espresso is circa 25 to 30 ml. The pump pressure gauge indicates approx. 8.5 -12 bar. When the cup is filled, press the coffee button on the front panel again.

The remaining pressure/water will be discharged into the drip tray by the outlet connection behind the drip tray.

Important

Only freshly ground coffee allows for an optimal coffee result. Therefore, use a professional coffee grinder. In our assortment you will find several professional and compact coffee grinders.
We recommend using a stainless steel tamper with a diameter of 58 mm for optimum tamping.

Dispensing of hot water

Place an adequate container (with heat-insulated handle) under the steam/hot water dispenser. By operating the pump switch (Image 1 – no.8). and opening the valve, you can dispense hot water.

Caution!

Always place the nozzle of the dispenser into the water container in order to avoid injuries due to hot water spillings.

Dispensing of steam

The CASA V makes it possible to generate large amounts of steam in order to heat or froth beverages, e.g. milk or punch.
Please follow the instructions below. Do not bring the milk to a boil, otherwise frothing milk will not be possible. For cappuccino and white coffee preparation, first brew the coffee and then start steam dispensing.
For high-pressure steam dispensing, the water in the boiler has to be heated to more than 100 °C.

Important!

Operate the steam switch (Image 1 – no.4). The machines heats up and the control lamp for heating turns on. The indicator of the pump pressure gauge may move slightly.

Place an adequate container (with heat-insulated handle) under the steam/hot water dispenser. Open the steam valve for approx. 5 seconds to reduce the boiler water capacity and generate a bigger steam volume.
Repeat this process twice in intervals approx. 10 seconds each.
Wait until the control lamp for heating switches off. Now the machine has the right operating temperature.
Immerse the steam nozzle at the end of the steam dispenser into the milk. Now re-open the steam dispenser and heat or froth the liquid. Switch off the steam function (Image 1 – no.4).

Caution!

Always keep the steam nozzle underneath the surface of the liquid while heating or frothing in order to avoid sprayings. This may cause injuries.

Advice

After frothing the milk, release the steam into the drip tray to keep the steam nozzle holes clean.
Clean the steam nozzle and the steam dispenser after every use with a damp cloth in order to remove possible liquid residues..

Attention: Be careful while cleaning the steam dispenser. Avoid skin contact (danger of injury).

Important

Refill the boiler with water after frothing the milk

Slightly open the steam/hot water valve and press the pump/hot water switch (Image 1 – no.8). You hear a pump sound. Now the machine fills the boiler with water. Release steam and hot water into a big container. Dispense steam and hot water until a water jet is visible. Release the valve and switch off the pump/hot water switch (Image 1 – no.8).
You have now reduced the boiler temperature and may restart coffee preparation.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Regular and accurate care is very important for the performance, the longevity and the operational safety of your machine.

Caution!

Always switch off the machine (power switch in lower position), disconnect the power cord and let the machine cool down to room temperature (for at least 30 minutes) before cleaning.
Never submerse the machine in water. There is a risk of electric shock

General cleaning

Daily cleaning:
Portafilter, filters, water tank and drip tray require daily cleaning. Clean with water and/or with a food safe detergent.

Clean the shower screen and the group gasket in the lower part of the brew group and remove visible dirt without dissasembling the parts using a hard cleaning brush.

**** Portafilter, drip tray and water tank are not suitable for the dish washer.

Cleaning as necessary:
Clean the steam/hot water valve after every use.
Clean the body when the machine is switched off and cold.

Depending on usage, please refresh the boiler water every 1– 2 weeks by operating the pump switch and extracting about 0.35 L of hot water from the steam wand.

Use a soft and damp cloth for cleaning.
Never use abrasive or chloric detergents!

Empty the water drip tray regularly and do not wait until it is full.

How to forth milk.

  • If possible, use cold, fresh milk with a fat content of 3.5 % or lower. If you prefer, use homogenised milk.
  • Use a frothing container (made of metal) with a minimum volume of 0.5 litres. The size of the container should not be too wide. A narrow and high container is preferred.
  • Open the steam valve for approx. 5 seconds to release the condensation water and to create dry steam.
  • Fill 1/3 of the container with milk and place it under the steam nozzle. The nozzle should be immersed into the middle of the frothing container underneath the surface.
  • Slowly open the steam lever. Steam pervades the milk.
  • Keep the frothing container still.
  • After a few seconds, you will notice a light suction in the frothing container. Proper frothing begins. Move the frothing container downwards as the milk level increases. The steam nozzle must be kept just under the surface of the frothed milk.
  • Attention: When the desired amount of milk froth is reached, immerse the entire steam nozzle into the frothing container for a short time to heat the entire milk and close the steam lever.
  • Attention: Milk proteins “froth”with a temperature up to 77°C. Once this temperature is exceeded, the milk does not froth any further.
  • Advice: When the milk frothing is finished, slightly shake the frothing container in order to make the milk bubbles ascend to the surface and to get a compact milk froth.
  • After frothing the milk, release steam into the drip tray to avoid blockage of the steam nozzle. Wipe the nozzle.

Cappuccino preparation step by step

  1. Prepare a portion of espresso (about 1/3 of the cappuccino cup) using a cappuccino cup.
  2. Froth milk in a separate container.
  3. Fill the cup with the espresso and the frothed milk. Do not pour the milk but “shake” it into the cup. If necessary, use a spoon to “scoop” the milk into the cup.
