CLEANING

We do recommend cleaning the grinder on a regular basis in order to keep the grinding mechanism functioning properly and to receive even results. Furthermore, you will prevent old coffee residues in the grinding mechanism from affecting aroma and taste.

Cleaning the grinding mechanism with the ECM grinder cleaner
We recommend to clean the grinder with our special grinder cleaner every 4 weeks. This special cleaner is made out of food-safe materials.

Empty the bean hopper, for example by grinding the remaining beans, or by loosening the safety screw and emptying out the bean hopper.| |
---|---|---
Empty the grinding mechanism by grinding the remaining beans.

Set the grinder to a slightly coarser setting, otherwise the granules will not be ground (¼ turn on the grinder scale).

Fill a packet of grind cleaner into the bean hopper.

| |
Grind the cleaning granules and catch them with the bean hopper lid, for example.

Fill the ground granules back into the bean hopper.

Repeat this process 3 or 4 times. When the granules turn brown you can throw them out.

| |
---|---|---
Unplug the grinder, take off the bean hopper and clean the burrs with a brush. You may use a vacuum cleaner as well.

Clean the bean hopper incl. the lid and set it back onto the grinder and refill it with coffee beans.

| |
Readjust the grind setting.

Grind a single portion of beans and throw them out.

Your grinder is operational again.

| |

Cleaning of the housing and the bean hopper
Occasionally clean the housing and the tray regularly with a damp cloth. You should clean the bean hopper with a damp cloth prior to refilling the hopper in order to remove coffee oil residues. These residues can lead to a negative effect on flavour and taste.

PLEASE NOTE: When replacing the bean hopper, make sure that the holes are aligned. Otherwise you will damage the bean hopper if you screw in the safety screw.| |
---|---|---

Cleaning of the burrs

  • It is very difficult to unscrew the burr bracket, due to the fine threads. There is a risk of injury.
  • Please make sure that coffee grounds remain in the threads, since it will not be able to be screwed back together if this is the case.

Close the bean hopper with the lid and grind the remaining beans still in the hopper.

Unplug the grinder and unscrew the safety screw of the bean hopper.

Remove the bean hopper. Please note that the hopper latch has to be closed.

|
---|---
Loosen the screws of the grinder dial with an Allen key (2.5mm).

Remove the grinder dial.

| |
Unscrew the bracket of the upper burr. Please note that it may take some force to do so.

Clean the burrs and the threads with a brush. You may use a vacuum cleaner as well.

| |
Make sure, before replacing the individual parts, that all components are very clean. Please make sure that no coffee grounds remain in the threads, since it will not be able to be screwed back together if this is the case. A drop of silicone based oil on the thread and on the O-ring of the removed bracket makes it easier to reinstall the bracket.

**** For faster assembly, turn the upper burr by hand to the lower one. Then, from this position, back again in about a ½- ¾ turn.

Next reassemble the grinder dial.

|
---|---
Readjust the chosen grind level while the grinder is in use.|

TIPPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING

There are many factors that affect espresso preparation. The coffee parameters have to be adapted according to the type of coffee, the ambient temperature and the humidity to achieve a permanent optimum result.

In the following table a few common error patterns are listed regarding the coffee result and the functioning of the grinder itself. In general, we recommend not to change more than one parameter at a time to be able to get back to the original state in case the result of changing the parameter is negative.
Parameters that you are able to influence are: grinding degree, coffee quantity and tamping pressure on the coffee.
