MACHINE INSTALLATION
| The installation is to be carried out exclusively by qualified specialists
according to the following instructions and in compliance with valid laws.
---|---
The following chapters deal with the preparation of the machine, its
electrical connection, water supply connection, and drain connection.
4.1 Preparation for installation
| • Place the machine on an even and stable surface. You can regulate the
height by adjusting the feet of the machine.
• Never place the machine on hot surfaces.
---|---
4.2 Electrical connection
| • Make sure that the local main supply voltage corresponds to the
information given on thetype plate on the front panel of the espresso machine.
• Plug the machine into a grounded socket only and do not leave it unattended.
• Do not roll or bend the power cord.
• Do not use an extension cord/ do not use a multiple sockets.
---|---
4.3 Water supply connection
| Important
Make sure that the water supply installation is connected to a potable water
supply with an operating pressure ranging from 0 to 1.5 bars. In case of the
operating pressure of more than 1.5 bar uses a pressure regulator.
Please note that often the pressure of the water supply varies. If the water
supply pressure temporarily exceeds 1.5 bars, use a pressure regulator.
---|---
Machine in use with direct water connection
Connect the water connecting hose to the water supply adapter (image 1).
When using the machine with a direct water connection, please turn the valve to the side of the water supply adapter (image 1). The water supply valve is located in the rear part of the bottom panel (image 1). Additionally, place the switch behind the drip tray into position “1” (image 2). Please make sure that your water tap is always open during water-connection usage so that the machine never runs out of water!
Machine in use with water tank
When using the machine with water tank, please turn the valve into the direction of the machine foot (image 3). Additionally, place the switch behind the drip tray into position “0” (image 4).
| Important
• Please make sure that only experienced specialists are connecting the
machine to the water supply and installing a pressure regulator.
• To avoid calcification of the machine a water softener is recommended. An
8l-water softener (item.-no. 89530) is available in the ECM range of products.
---|---
| Important
• In case you should decide on a direct connection of the machine to the drain
system, a hole has to be drilled in the bottom of the drip tray. This
alteration can be carried out by experienced specialists or by an ECM
Manufacture service.
• Connect a hose (inner diameter 15 mm) to the designated connector on the
backside of the machine and to a preinstalled siphoned drain.

How to froth milk like a “barista”
- If possible, use cold and fresh milk with a fat content of approx. 1.5 % or 3 %. Even homogenized milk is suitable – if you prefer.
- Use a frothing container (made of metal) with a minimum volume of 0.5 liters. The size of the container should not be too wide. A small and narrow container is perfect.
- Open the steam valve for approx. 5 seconds to release the condensation water and to create the dry steam.
- Fill 1/3 of the frothing container with milk and place it under the steam nozzle. The nozzle should be immersed in the middle of the frothing container, just below the surface.
- Slowly open the steam handle. The steam pervades the milk.
- Keep the frothing container still.
- After a few seconds, you will notice a slight suction in the milk jug. Proper frothing begins. Move the frothing container downwards while the milk level increases. The steam nozzle must be kept under the surface of the frothed milk.
- Attention: When the desired amount of milk froth is reached, immerse the entire steam nozzle in the frothing container for a short time and close the steam handle.
| Milk proteins “froth” with a temperature up to 77°C. Once this temperature
is exceeded, the milk does not froth any further.
---|---
- If there is some milk left in the milk jug, let it cool down; it can be re-used later.
- Advice: When milk frothing is finished, just shake the frothing container a little bit in order to make the milk bubbles ascend to the surface and to get a compact milk froth.
- After frothing the milk, release steam into the drip tray to avoid blockage of the steam nozzle.
