addition we ask that you exercise a degree of care when using any electrical
appliance and adhere to the following precautions.

- Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
- Children shall not play with the appliance.
- Remove and safely discard any packaging material and promotional labels before using the kettle for the first time.
- To eliminate a choking hazard for young children, remove and safely discard the protective cover fitted to the power plug of this appliance.
- This kettle has been designed specifically for the purpose of boiling drinking quality water only. Under no circumstances should this product be used to boil any other liquids or foodstuffs.
- Do not place the kettle near the edge of a bench or table during operation. Ensure that the surface is level, clean and free of water and other substances.
- Do not operate the kettle on a sink drain board.
- Do not place the kettle on or near a hot gas burner, electric element or where it could touch a heated oven.
- Keep the kettle clear of walls, curtains and other heat or steam sensitive materials. Minimum 20cm distance.
- Always ensure the kettle is properly assembled before use. Follow the instructions provided in this book.
- The kettle must be used only with the power base supplied.
- This kettle is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote control system.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use the handle for lifting and carrying the kettle.
- Do not place anything on top of the lid.
- Always ensure the kettle switch is in the ‘off’ position, then turn the power off at the power outlet and remove the plug from the power outlet before attempting to move the appliance, when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning and storing.
- Use caution when pouring water from the kettle, as boiling water and steam will scald. Do not pour water too quickly.
- To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the kettle base, power base, power cord or power plug in water or allow moisture to come in contact with these parts.
- Do not remove the kettle from the power base during operation. Ensure the kettle is switched to ‘off’ position after the water has boiled before removing the kettle from the power base.
- Do not move the kettle while it is switched on.
- Do not open the lid during operation.
- Do not overfill the kettle past the maximum water level mark. If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected.
- Keep the kettle clean. Follow the cleaning instructions provided in this book.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS FOR ALL ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES
- Fully unwind the power cord before use.
- Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a bench or table, touch hot surfaces or become knotted.
- Connect only to a 230V or 240V power outlet
- To protect against electric shock do not immerse the power cord, power plug or appliance in water or any other liquid.
- Always turn the appliance to the OFF position, switch off at the power outlet, remove the plug and allow all parts to cool before attempting to move the appliance, when the appliance is not in use, before cleaning and when storing.
- This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are 8 years or above and are under supervision. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years.
- It is recommended to regularly inspect the appliance. To avoid a hazard do not use the appliance if power cord, power plug or appliance becomes damaged in any way. Return the entire appliance to the nearest authorised Breville Service Centre for examination and/or repair.
- Any maintenance other than cleaning should be performed at an authorised Breville Service Centre.
- This appliance is for household use only. Do not use this appliance for anything other than its intended use. Do not use in moving vehicles or boats. Do not use outdoors. Misuse may cause injury.
- The installation of a residual current device (safety switch is recommended to provide additional safety protection when using electrical. appliances. It is advisable that a safety switch with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA be installed in the electrical circuit supplying the appliance. See your electrician for professional advice.
- For safety reasons it is recommended you plug your Breville appliance directly into its own electrical outlet on a dedicated circuit separate from other appliances. If the electrical circuit is overloaded with other appliances, your appliance may not function properly. Using in conjunction with a power strip or extension cord is not recommended.
- Do not spill water onto the connector.
- The use of attachments not sold or recommended by Breville may cause fire electric shock or injury.

Do not operate the kettle on an inclined surface. Do not move the kettle while it is switched on.

The heating element surface is subjected to residual heat after use.

The appliance is designed for boiling of drinking quality water only.

Never use to heat or boil any other liquids or foodstuffs. The lid should always be firmly in place and locked into the closed position before use.
Do not press the lid release button to open the lid during and after operation. This may result in boiling water splashing from the kettle. Pour out all the hot water from the kettle before opening the lid to refill. -
Never immerse the kettle base, switch area, power base, power cord or power plug in water, or allow moisture to come into contact with these parts.

To prevent damage to the kettle do not use chemicals, alkaline cleaning agents, steel wool or abrasive cleaners to clean the inside or outside of the kettle. Use a mild cleaning agent with a soft damp cloth.

Functions
BEFORE FIRST USE
Remove any promotional material attached to your kettle. It is recommended
that before first use, the kettle is filled to the maximum level with cold tap
water, boiled and water discarded. Your kettle will only operate when
positioned on the power base with the ‘On/Off’ switch in the ‘On’ position.
The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled.
OPERATION OF YOUR KETTLE
- To fill the kettle, remove it from the power base and open lid by pressing the lid release button. Fill with the desired amount of water.
- Ensure the lid is locked firmly into place. Position the kettle securely onto the power base. Insert the power plug into a 230/240V power outlet and switch on.
- Press the ‘On/Off’ switch to the ‘On’ position for water to boil.
NOTE: Always fill the kettle between the minimum (700ml) and maximum (1700ml) marks on the water window. Too little water will result in the kettle switching ‘Off’ before the water has boiled. Filling above the maximum mark (MAX) may result in boiling water splashing from the kettle.
NOTE: This kettle must only be used with the power base supplied. Use
caution when pouring water from your kettle, as boiling water will scald. Do
not pour the water too quickly. The kettle will automatically switch ‘off’
once the water has boiled. Lift the kettle from the power base and pour the
water. Take care to hold the kettle level, especially when filled to the
maximum level. To re-boil it may be necessary to wait for a few seconds to
allow the control to reset. If further heating of the kettle is not required,
switch ‘Off’ at the power outlet, unplug the power cord and empty the water
from the kettle. Replace the kettle onto the power base and close the lid.
SAFETY BOIL DRY PROTECTION
The kettle is fitted with a safety device, which protects against
overheating should the appliance be operated with insufficient water. If this
occurs, the kettle will stop heating. Switch ‘Off’ at the power outlet and
allow kettle to cool before refilling. Remove the kettle from the power base
and add water. Return the kettle to the power base. The safety device will
then automatically reset.
Care & Cleaning/ Storage
Always switch ‘off’ at the power outlet and unplug the appliance from the
power outlet before cleaning.
REMOVABLE FILTER
The kettle features a removable mesh filter to remove scale deposits for
cleaner water. To remove the scale deposits from the filter, open the lid and
slide the filter up and out
of the kettle. The filter can be cleaned by running under hot water and
rubbing with a cleaning cloth or brush. To replace filter, simply slide the
filter down into the slot behind the spout of the kettle and push back into
position.
NOTE: The filter could become damaged with time. Please check regularly
and replace if found damaged.The concealed element in the base of the kettle
is made from high quality stainless steel.
Any brown stains appearing are the result of mineral deposits and are not
rust.
REMOVAL OF MINERAL DEPOSITS: Mineral deposits in tap water may cause the
kettle interior and water gauge to discolour over time. This may be removed by
using Breville Kettle Cleaner (BKC250) or a proprietary kettle descaler which
is available from most leading supermarkets, department and hardware stores.
BREVILLE KETTLE CLEANER Directions for use
- Add 125ml of Breville Kettle Cleaner to 2 litres of water.
- Fill kettle with mixture on a protected surface.
- Bring kettle to boil and let stand for30 minutes.
- Clean spout by using a cloth dampened with Breville Kettle Cleaner and rub well then wipe off.
- Bring the kettle to boil for a second time, then empty solution.
- Fill kettle with fresh water and bring to the boil, discard boiled water. Your kettle is now ready to make your next cup of tea/coffee.
TO CLEAN THE EXTERIOR
The outside of the kettle may be wiped over with a damp cloth and polished
with a soft dry cloth.
NOTE: Do not use chemicals, alkaline cleaning agents, steel wool or
abrasive cleaners to clean the inside or outside of the kettle. Use a mild
cleaning agent with a soft damp cloth.
STORAGE: Ensure the kettle is switched off, clean and dry before storing.
Ensure the lid is closed and locked securely into place. Wrap the power cord
around the cord storage under the power base. Stand the kettle upright on the
power base. Do not store anything on top.

- While toasting, the bread may burn. Therefore do not use the toaster near or below combustible material, suchas curtains.
- Do not place the toaster onor near a hot gas or electric burner, or where it could touch any other source of heat.
- This toaster is not intended to be operated by meansof an external timer or separate remote-control system.
- When operating the toaster, keep a minimum distanceof 10cm of space fromthe surrounding sides & 20cm above.
- Breville does not recommend placing the toaster in enclosed areas.
- Do not use the toaster on a sink drain board.
- Do not move toaster while in operation.
- Avoid contact with moving parts.
- Ensure that bread to be toasted is the correct size for the toaster and does not protrude above the toasting slots. Ensure the bread is not too thick or long that it will jam or wedge the bread carriage.
- Do not place toast directly on top of toasting slots to warm toast as this may prevent correct air circulation and damage the appliance.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Toaster surfaces are hot during and after operation. To prevent burns or personal injury, always use protective hot pads or insulated oven mitts, or use handles or knobs where available.
- Metal utensils such as a knife, should not be inserted into the toaster to remove jammed toast, bagels or any other items from the toaster. This can damage the heating elements as well as lead to electrocution.
- Do not attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is plugged in.
- Oversized foods, metal foil packages, or utensils must not be inserted into the toaster as they may cause a fire or risk of electric shock.
- Do not use the toaster without the slide out crumb tray in place. Do not allow crumbs to build up in the crumb tray. Failure to clean the crumb tray regularly may result in a fire hazard. To turn the toaster off, remove the power plug from the power outlet.
- Always turn the power off at the power outlet and remove the power plug from the power outlet if the toaster is not in use, before attempting to move, before cleaning, and when storing. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
- Never cover the toaster whilst it is plugged into the power outlet or while hot.
- Do not use harsh abrasive, caustic cleaners or oven cleaners when cleaning the toaster.
- Do not clean with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off and touch electrical parts, creating a shock hazard.
- Strictly follow the care and cleaning instructions described in this book.
- Never cover the toaster whilst it is plugged into the power outlet or while hot.
- The use of attachments not sold or recommended by Breville may cause fire, electric shock or injury.

BEFORE FIRST USE
Before first use, remove any packaging material and promotional labels before
using your toaster for the first time.
- Place the toaster on a dry, level heat resistant surface.
- Fully unwind the power cord and insert power cord into a 230V or 240V power outlet and switch on at the power outlet.
- Place 1 slice of bread into each toasting slot.
- Select the desired browning setting using the variable browning control dial. Settings range from ‘1’ being the lightest to ‘6’ being the darkest. It is recommended for first time use, that the control is to be set to setting number ‘3’. If toasting less than 2 slices of bread, the browning setting may need to be reduced to avoid burning the toast.
- Press the carriage control lever down, ensuring it is locked in position.
- Once the browning process is complete and desired toast colour is achieved, the carriage control lever will automatically raise the toast.
NOTE
The toasting process can be stopped at any time by pressing the CANCEL button or switching off at the power outlet.
WARNING
The toaster is electronically controlled and will not lock down in the toasting position until the toaster is plugged into a 230V or 240V power outlet, switched on and the control lever is latched down in the locked position.
USING YOUR BREVILLE TOASTER
NOTE: Depending on personal preference and bread types, a different
browning setting may be required. For light-textured breads such as raisin
toast and white breads this may require a lighter setting, whilst heavier
textured breads such as rye bread may require a darker setting.
CANCEL BUTTON: The CANCEL button can be selected during operation to
cancel the toasting process. The CANCEL button illuminates when the carriage
control lever is locked down into position and the toasting process is in
operation. Pressing the CANCEL button any time during operation will cause the
carriage lever to raise the toast and cancel the toasting process.
DEFROST BUTTON: The DEFROST button is used to toast frozen bread. Place
the frozen bread into the bread slots, select the desired browning setting and
press the carriage control lever down and lock into position, then press the
DEFROST button. The DEFROST button illuminates during the toasting process.
REHEAT TOAST
The REHEAT button can be selected at the beginning of the toasting process to
reheat the toast, if required. Place the toast into the bread slots and press
the carriage control lever down, ensuring it is locked into position. Press
the REHEAT button; the REHEAT button illuminates during toasting process.
NOTE
The DEFROST button and REHEAT button cannot be selected at the same time.
HIGH LIFT
The toaster carriage control lever features HIGH LIFT. HIGH LIFT is ideal for
removing smaller items such as crumpets or English muffins. Once the browning
process is complete, the lever will automatically raise the toast. For easier
removal of toasted items, lift carriage control lever upwards approximately
10mm from the lever starting position.
WARNING
Do not leave toaster unattended when in use as toast may jam or wedge in the bread carriage. Never attempt to extract toast or any other item that has jammed or wedged in the toaster with a knife or any other object, as contact with live elements may not only damage the elements, but cause electrocution.
Care & Cleaning/ Storage
- Remove the power plug from the power outlet and allow the toaster to cool completely before cleaning.
- To clean any crumbs from the toaster, remove the crumb tray, located on the left side of the toaster, opposite to the lever. Empty and replace the crumb tray before using the toaster again. Replace the crumb tray by sliding it inwards until it locks into position.
- To remove any additional crumbs, turn the toaster upside down over a trash bin and shake crumbs free.
- Wipe the outside of the toaster with a slightly dampened soft cloth then polish with a soft dry cloth to dry completely.
NOTE
Do not clean with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off the pad and touch
electrical parts creating an electric shock hazard.
STORAGE
Remove the power plug from the power outlet and allow the toaster to cool
completely before storing. Follow the directions for cleaning and store in an
upright position on a flat surface on a bench top or in an accessible
cupboard. Do not store anything on top of the toaster.

Do not use the toaster without the crumb tray in position. Do not allow crumbs to build up in the crumb tray. Failure to clean the crumb tray regularly may result in a fire hazard and damage the toaster.
