SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read and understand the owner’s manual and labels affixed to the electric shredder. Learn its application and limitations as well as the specific potential hazards. Retain these instructions for reference.
- The Silent Shredder is an electrical appliance using fast moving parts and as such can be dangerous if handled irresponsibly.•
- Ensure that no foreign objects such as stones, glass, metal, earth or plastics are fed into the shredder; these could cause blunting of the blade and seriously damage the motor.
- Only use extension cables that are approved for outdoor use. Check that they are in good condition.
- Use gloves and ear protection if operating for extended periods of time.
- We recommend safety goggles are worn during operation as objects can be ejected at high speed when the motor is running.
- All onlookers, children and pets should be kept at a safe distance and only those familiar with the operation of the shredder should be permitted to use it.
- Never expose the unit to rain or moisture and store the machine in a totally dry environment.
- Always turn off the unit and fully disconnect from the mains electricity supply when cleaning or performing any maintenance. Wait until the cutting disc stops.
- Never insert hands into the feed hopper or debris chute whilst the unit is running or connected to the mains electricity supply.
- Do not modify the unit in any way.
- Replace worn or damaged parts using only original spares.
- Never move the shredder by pulling on the cable and always switch off when transporting. Do not leave the shredder unattended whilst it is switched on.

ASSEMBLY
The shredder comes partly assembled and the only thing left to do is to mount the stand and wheels:]
- Turn the unit upside down and follow the diagrams and instructions below.
- Fix the wheel axle to the stand using two bolts M6x50 and nuts by us-ing the hex key and spanner supplied.
- Attach the stand to the housing using two locking nuts.
- Slide the wheels onto the axle and secure the hub caps using a wood-en or rubber hammer.
- Turn the unit the correct way up.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
This shredder is designed for cutting fibrous and woody garden waste. Ensure
that the correct extension cable is used. For cables up to 25metres long, a
cross-section of at least 3 x1.5m ² is required; for cables more than 25
meters long the cross-section must be at least 2.5m ². An extension cable with
a cross-section that is too small causes a distinct reduction in the
performance.
Use a receptacle under the debris chute to collect the shredded material.
On/Off Switch:
- Press the green button to switch the shredder on.
- Press the red button to switch off.
- Note: the machine is equipped with a safety device to prevent it automatically switching itself on after a power failure.’
Rotational Direction Switch:
The rotational direction switch can only be operated when the shredder is
switched off.
- Position 1 – the cutting gear will draw the material into the hopper and shred it.
- Position 0 – the cutting gear operates in a reverse direction and jammed material is freed.
Overload Protection:
- In order to protect the motor, the overload protection will activate after a few seconds if there is a blockage and will cut off the machine automatically.
- Wait at least a minute before restarting – press the Reset button and the On/Off switch. If the necessary switch to reverse to free any blockage.
Hints and Tips
- Standing at the rear of the machine, feed the material into the right side of the hopper – the material will be pulled in automatically.
- Care: Longer material may oscillate when being pulled in by the cutting mechanism•
- Do not fill with too much material at once so as to avoid the risk of blockage.
- Alternate garden waste which has wilted with woodier branches – too much soft waste will clog up the cutting mechanism – it is better to compost soft garden waste.
- Larger material with leaves must be completely shredded before feeding in new material.
- The ventilation slots must not be covered by the debris bag of the shredded material.
- Empty the debris receptacle regularly so that it does not overfill.
MAINTENANCE
Adjusting the Cutting Mechanism
Occasionally it may be necessary to adjust the cutting mechanism. The distance
between the cutting gear B and the cutting plate A should be between 0.50 and
1.00mm. On the right-hand side of the shredder ( looking from the back) there
is an adjusting device. Using the hex key supplied insert and turn clockwise
half a turn (0.50mm) so that bolt C moves toward the cutting plate (A). After
adjusting test the machine with varying thicknesses of material and re-adjust
if necessary. Bear in mind that the two cutting mechanisms should NOT touch.
Keep air vents clean and free from dust. Use only a damp cloth to clean the machine and do not spray water on the shredder. Detergents and solvents can cause irreparable damage and chemicals can destroy plastic housing. Check the tightness of screws and bolts from time to time. A few drops of oil on the cutting mechanism will help protect from corrosion.
