Quick-Start-Guide

Assembly

a Remove the ID code from the housing cover and stick it into this field.
b Connect the router to your gateway. Use the connector in the middle and the supplied LAN cable for this.
c Connect the device with the power cable and plug the connector into the socket. d It takes approx. 5-10 minutes for all LEDs on your gateway (except the Bluetooth LED) to light up green. The gateway is then ready for operation.

Creating a customer account

If you have not already done so, create a customer account at hornbach.com
b Then log in with your HORNBACH customer account and select “My Smart Home” below “My Account”.
c Confirm the SMART HOME by hornbach terms and conditions and privacy policy.
d You will receive an e-mail with the link to the Smart Home registration. Please follow the steps from the email and Smart Home login page.

Activation

a Install the SMART HOME by hornbach app on your smartphone or tablet.
b Please enter your e-mail address (identical to your customer account) and the password that you set up beforehand.
c Now click on the plus symbol in the top right corner.
d Select the “Gateway” item to add a gateway.
e Now enter the 6-digit ID code that you pasted into the field in item point 1a. Alternatively, you will also find the ID code on the bottom of your gateway.
f After you have entered the ID code, click on “Activate” – done!
Note: You can also perform these steps via the browser.

Adding devices

a Now click on the plus symbol in the top right corner.
b Click on the “Device” item and then on the device you want to add.
c Now follow the instructions in the SMART HOME by hornbach App or in the browser.

Intended purpose

The SMART HOME by hornbach Gateway is designed to control SMART HOME by hornbach devices and compatible devices. The gateway is not intended for commercial use.

Prerequisites

Internet router with free LAN Port
A permanent Internet connection (for setting up and executing rules and push messages). Note: Additional costs may be incurred depending on your Internet provider.
PC, tablet or smartphone with a current JavaScript-enabled browser
App usage: iOS min. version 10 / Android min. version 6, available in the App Store or Play Store

Important safety instructions

WARNING: Read all safety instructions and all instructions in this manual and in the web application. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

This gateway is not suitable for use by children and persons with a lack of experience or knowledge. This gateway can be used by children aged 8 or older and by persons who have a lack of experience or knowledge if they have been supervised or instructed in the safe operation of the gateway and understand the associated dangers. Otherwise, there is a danger of operating errors and injuries. Supervise children to ensure they do not play with the gateway.
Keep the gateway away from rain or moisture. Penetration of water in the gateway increases the risk of an electric shock. Never open the gateway yourself. Repairs may be carried out only by an authorized customer service center, only using original spare parts. Damaged gateways, power supply, cables, and plugs increase the risk of an electric shock. Do not place any objects on the gateway and do not place it on soft surfaces, otherwise, there is a risk of fire. Always check that the mains voltage matches the voltage indicated on the rating plate of the power supply. Never use the gateway if the power supply, the cable, or the unit itself has been damaged by external influences. In the event of a complaint, please contact a HORNBACH DIY superstore or garden center or our hotline. You will find comprehensive information on how to proceed in the event of a complaint on www.hornbach.de. The gateway may only be operated using the power supply provided.

Never open the gateway or the power supply. Modification of the gateway or the power supply or tampering with its parts is not permissible. Do not operate the gateway in explosive atmospheres such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. The power supply connector must match the socket. Never modify the connector in any way. Avoid body contact with earth or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. Do not use the power cable for unintended purposes. Keep the cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges, and moving parts.

Data security
Do not access the gateway via public or unprotected WiFi networks.
Only connect to the gateway with computers or smartphones running the latest operating system and appropriate virus protection.
Protect your local network by using an up-to-date router with the latest operating system, password protection, current WLAN/WiFi protection, and firewall.

Troubleshooting

The gateway doesn’t contain any user-serviceable parts.
Never open the gateway or the power supply. If the gateway is defective, proceed as described above. Modification of the gateway, or the power supply, or tampering with its parts is not permissible.

The gateway needs a permanent connection to the internet to execute rules, to send push messages, and for security updates.
In case of problems, check first, that the internet LED is lit. If it is not lit, check the Internet connection and settings of your router (e.g., for an active LAN timer or parental control).

Resetting the gateway

Reset the gateway before passing it to third parties to remove all data. To reset the device, insert a pen into the reset hole on the front of the gateway and hold the button behind for 10 seconds.
When resetting the gateway, an uninterrupted power supply must be ensured.

Waste disposal

The pictogram with the crossed-out dustbin points to the requirement for separate disposal of electrical and electronic appliances (WEEE). Such equipment may contain dangerous hazardous substances. These machines must be returned to a designated collection point for the recycling of WEEE and must not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. In this way, you contribute to the protection of resources and the environment. Contact your local authorities for more information.
