NOTICE:
You MUST read and understand all warnings in this document AND the owner’s manual that shipped with your bike and is available at radpowerbikes.com/manual (USA), radpowerbikes.ca/manual (Canada), or power radpowerbikes.ca/manual (Europe) before using this accessory. The latest version of these instructions and your owner’s manuals are available online.
CONTENTS: USB Charger
TOOLS NEEDED: Zip ties, Flat side cutters
INSTALLATION
-
Get the bike ready for installation. Turn off the bike, unlock and remove the battery, and press and hold the power button to discharge remaining power.
-
Remove the connector cover. Locate the connector end coming out of the bottom of the wiring harness junction, pull off the cover, and set aside.
Plug in the USB charger to the wiring harness. Inspect the inside of each connector end, carefully align the 7 internal pins and 2 notches, and press the ends directly together without twisting. Press firmly and connect fully. -
Clip the USB charger onto one of the cables. Locate a section of cable without a connector bulge, such as the brake cable housing coming out of the brake on the rider’s left side of the handlebar. Align the C-clips on the USB charger with the cable and press the cable into the clips.
-
Caution: Ensure the cable coming out of the wiring harness junction is not pinched.
-
Secure the USB charger to the cable using zip ties. Pass one zip tie into the hole above one C-clip on the charger. Wrap the zip tie around the cable, through the zip tie lock, and pull to tighten and secure. Repeat with the other hole above the other C-clip.
-
Protect the open connector from water damage.
-
Install the connector cover on the open connector side of the USB charger.
-
Secure the connector pointing down. Without pinching the cable, gently point the covered connector downward so water will slide off from top to bottom.
-
Use flat side cutters to snip off zip tie excess. Ensure the cut is flush and smooth with no sharp point.
-
Check that all cables are free of moving parts and the handlebar and front wheel can turn freely. Ensure the brakes and bike operate normally.
-
Reinstall the battery and test the bike fully before riding.
NOTICE
- The USB charger provides 1 amp of power. It can charge many, but not all, USB devices. Drawing more than 1 amp will turn the charger off. If a device is plugged in and the device charge indicator is not indicating charge is flowing, it is likely that the device is drawing more than 1 amp and is unable to be charged by the USB charger.
- The USB charger can charge a device when the bike display is on or off.
- Do not use more than two USB chargers on the bike at one time.
WARNINGS
- Secure the USB charger, any device, and any charging cables away from moving parts. The charger, device, and charging cables should not impact the ability of the rider to operate the bike in any way including to steer, brake, pedal, etc.
- Using or adjusting an electronic device while riding an ebike could lead to loss of control or an accident resulting in damage to the bike, property, serious injury and/or death. Always stop the bike in a safe area, stabilize the bike, and if needed, dismount from the bike before using or adjusting an electronic device (e.g. plugging or unplugging a device, using a phone or GPS, etc.). Afterward, as before any ride, ensure the product is secure, clear of moving parts, etc. before mounting and riding the bike.
- This product is rated IP 65; it is water-resistant and not waterproof. Never submerge the product in water and protect the product from water intrusion.
- Water intrusion to the USB charger at the connector end can lead to permanent and irreversible damage to the USB charger and the bike’s electrical system. Always keep the USB charger fully connected to the wiring harness, the connector cover secured on the opposite end, and the covered end pointed downward to allow water to slide off without entering the covered connector.
- Water intrusion to the charging port of the USB charger will cause the charger to turn off and not charge temporarily until the charge port is dry. To prevent damage and corrosion to the charge port from dust, debris, water, and condensation, always keep the charging port cover secured in place when not in use.
- Know the water resistance rating of any device you would like to charge with the USB charger. If the device is not waterproof or sufficiently water-resistant, do not use or charge that device in wet conditions.
- Battery range or bike performance may decline when using the USB charger while riding. This amount of range decline will vary depending on the device being charged and other factors that always impact range (riding conditions, power assistance level, etc.).
- Practice in safe conditions (close to home, with a backup battery, etc.) while charging your device to determine how your device and riding conditions impact range before leaving on longer rides with fewer backup safety measures.
- Do not rely on the USB charger to keep you safe or charge your device in an emergency. Always let a friend or family member know where you plan to ride and when you expect to return.
