Frequently Asked Questions
-
Does anyone know what Amperage this cable is rated for? 10? 15?
According to the startech.com website, the PXT10115 cable is made with 18AWG wire and has a rating of 10A and 125VAC. -
What is the difference between 18 gauge and 14 gauge?
14 gauge is a thicker wire that can take more current. The 18 gauge cord says it can take 10 amps, and the 14 gauge says it can take 15 amps. You just need to match your cord to the power draw of whatever you’re plugging in. For example, if you’re going to power two PCs with 500w power supplies, you’re okay with the 18 gauge (1000w / 120v = 8.3 amps of the max current draw). -
Is this 250V?
No, the PXT101_3 is designed for 125 AC power connections. -
What does the voltage rate mean?
The description says it can handle 10 Amps of current @ 120 RMS alternating voltage. You’ll need to check the device for which this will be plugged to assure that this is an appropriate cord (both the current and voltage values are the same or lower). If the device is rated in HP (horsepower), then I’d consult the manufacturer. -
In another application can this cord handle 1600 watts?
This cable is rated at a max of 1250w so it will likely either burn the cable or just not work. -
