Introduction for users

BraunAbility Europe AB would like you, as a user, to feel secure and comfortable with your new product. For that reason, it is your installer’s duty to go through the following with you:Maximum load capacity for your hoist is ………. kg.

Safety

  • WARNING! Risk of crushing injury. The hoist consists of moving parts that can cause crushing injuries. Make sure to keep clear from moving parts when operating the hoist.
  • Max load Make sure to not load the hoist over the specified capcity, to avoid personal injuries or damages to the hoist, mobility device, or vehicle. Maximum load capacity is configuration dependent. The configuration and the capacity for the hoist has been set by the installation engineer, and is specified in “Introduction for users” on page 6.
  • Make sure that people, animals or objects are kept away from the loading area when operating the hoist.
  • Make sure that the mobility device stands steady on the luggage compartment floor, well secured in a transportation anchorage, when loaded into the vehicle.
  • Make sure not to rotate the hoist too far in against the backseat and headrests, causing a risk for personal injury. This must be manually controlled, as the hoist can swivel 360 degrees.
  • Make sure not to rotate the hoist too far out against the car chassis, causing damage to the chassis or the hoist. This must be manually controlled, as the hoist can swivel 360 degrees.
  • Make sure that the hoist is sufficiently rotated for the tailgate to be closed without coming into contact with the hoist.

Operation

  • The Carolift is a hoist for loading a mobility device into the luggage compartment of a vehicle.
  • The Carolift hoist is mounted to the vehicle floor, on the left or on the right side of the luggage compartment.
  • The Carolift has a maximum load capacity of 100 kg, configuration dependent, and a swivel degree of 360°.
  • The hoist is powered from a hand control which is used for all operations, lifting, lowering, and swivelling in or out of the vehicle.

Operating safety zone

For safety when operating the hoist, make sure to stand in the operating safety zone and do not stand in the direction of the hoist’s lifting arm.

Loading the mobility device

  1. Place the mobility device in a suitable direction behind the vehicle bumper. Prepare the mobility device by folding down or removing the backrest, or by folding a cross-frame wheelchair.
  2. Swivel out the hoist by pressing the OUT button (A), on the hand control.
  3. Lower the hoist towards the mobility device by pressing the DOWN button (B) on the hand control. Make sure the lifting device is as vertical towards the mobility device balance point as possible, to avoid that the mobility device starts to swing when lifted.
  4. Fasten the lifting device’s two buckles to the attachment points on the mobility device.
  5. Tighten the strap to secure the mobility device tight to the lifting device, for stability
  6. Lift up the mobility device by pressing the UP button (C) on the hand control. Hold on to the mobility device and guide it past the rear of the vehicle, until it reaches slightly above the lower edge of the luggage compartment opening.
  7. Swivel the mobility device inside, by pressing the IN button (D) on the hand control. Hold on to the mobility device and guide it through the door opening to a suitable position in the luggage compartment.
  8. Lower the mobility device, by pressing the DOWN button (B) on the hand control.
  9. Make sure that the mobility device is properly lowered and standing steady on the floor! Keep the lifting device fastened to the mobility device.
  10. Secure the mobility device to the luggage compartment in a transportation anchorage. To prevent the hoist from shaking and rattling during transport, lower the hoist to lock against the mobility device.

Unloading the mobility device

Unload the mobility device in the same manner as by loading, but in reversed order.

  1. Remove the connector (A) from the socket (B) on the foot (C).
  2. Remove the locking pin (D) and the locking plate (E) from the hoist (F).
  3. Remove the hoist (F) from the foot (C) by pulling it straight up.Mount the hoist on the foot in the same manner as by removing it, but in reversed order.

Care instructions
