NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

  • 1 pair 8mm knitting needles, 8mm circular needle (40cm) or size that gives correct tension.
  • 2 stitch holders.
  • A yarn needle.

TENSION
11 sts and 14 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 8mm needles.

BACK AND FRONT (both alike)
Using pair 8mm needles, cast on 33 (37-41-45) sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st.

Beg Patt – 1st row (WS) – P1, K1, P1, rep from to end.
2nd row (RS – Knit.

Last 2 rows form patt.
Cont in patt until work measures 20 (22-25-29) cm from beg of patt, working last row on WS.

  • Shape Armholes – Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 29 (33-37-41) sts.

  • Next row – K3, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 5 sts, K2tog, K3.

  • Next row – P1, K1, P1, rib to last 3 sts, P1, K1, P1.
    Rep last 2 rows until 23 (27-31-33) sts rem.
    Cont in patt without shaping until armholes measure 7 (9-11-13) cm, working last row on WS.

  • Shape Neck – Next row – Patt 9 (11-12-13), turn.
    Cont on these 9 (11-12-13) sts and dec one st at neck edge in every row until 5 (7-8-9) sts rem, then in foll alt row once.
    Work 1 row.
    Cast off rem 4 (6-7-8) sts for shoulder.
    Slip next 5 (5-7-7) sts onto a stitch holder and leave.
    With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and patt to end.

NECKBAND
Using a flat seam, join shoulder seams. With RS facing and using 8mm circular needle, knit up 6 sts evenly along left front neck, knit across sts from front stitch holder, knit up 6 sts evenly along right front neck, 6 sts evenly along right back neck, knit across sts from back stitch holder, then knit up 6 sts evenly along left back neck = 34 (34-38-38) sts.
1st round – Knit.
Rep 1st round twice more. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Darn in all ends. Using a flat seam, join side seams.
