WARNING:
The operation of any tool can result in foreign objects being thrown into your eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. WARNING:

FOR ALL APPLIANCES

• Avoid dangerous environments – do not use appliances in damp locations.

FOR BATTERY-POWERED GARDENING APPLIANCES

• Prevent unintentional starting. Make sure the switch is in the Off position before connecting the battery pack, picking up, or carrying the appliance. Carrying the appliance with your finger on the switch or energizing the appliance with the switch on invites accidents.
• Disconnect the battery pack before adjusting, changing accessories, or storing the appliance to reduce the risk of accidental starting
• Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create the risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
• Use appliances only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
• When the battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts the eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
• Do not use a battery pack or appliance that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
• Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or appliance outside of the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside of the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR CORDLESS STRING TRIMMERS

• Check the work area before each use. Remove all objects such as rocks, broken glass, nails, wire, or string that can be thrown or become entangled in the product.
• Keep hands and feet away from the cutting area.
• Make sure all guards, straps, deflectors and handles are properly and securely attached.
• Use the manufacturer’s replacement spool or string in the cutting head for best results. Do not use any other cutting attachment, for example, metal wire, rope, or the like. Installing any other brand of cutting head to this string trimmer can result in serious personal injury.
• Never operate the unit without the safety guard in place and in good condition.
• Maintain a firm grip on both handles while trimming. Keep string head below waist level. Never cut with the string head located over 30 in. or more above the ground.
• Never use blades, flailing devices, wire or rope. The unit is designed for line trimmer use only. The use of any other accessories or attachments will increase the risk of injury.
• Do not use heavier lines than recommended in this manual.
• Do not hang the unit so that the switch trigger is depressed.
• Have servicing performed by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the product is maintained.
• Do not modify or attempt to repair the hedge trimmer or the battery pack except as indicated in the instructions for use and care.
• Use designated battery packs (Genesis™ – Model GLAB2020B or GLAB2040B) and charger for this product. Use of any other batteries may result in a risk of fire.

EXTENSION CORDS

If an extension cord is necessary, a cord that is capable of carrying the current necessary for your product must be used. This will prevent excessive voltage drop, loss of power or overheating. Grounded products must use 3-wire extension cords that have 3-prone plugs and receptacles.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHARGER & BATTERY

• Save these instructions. This manual contains important safety and operating instructions for your battery and charger.
• Before using the battery charger, read all instructions and cautionary markings on (1) Battery Charger, (2) Battery, and (3) Product using the battery.
• Use only the charger which accompanies your product or direct replacements as listed in this manual. Do not substitute any other charger.
• Do not recharge the battery in damp environments. Do not expose the battery pack to water or rain.
• Do not operate the charger with a damaged cord or plug. Replace immediately.
• Do not operate a charger if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped or otherwise damaged in any way. Take it to a qualified serviceman.
• Do not disassemble a charger or a battery pack. Take it to a qualified service person when service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire.
• Do not charge the battery pack when the temperature is below 50 °F (10 °C) or above 104 °F (40°C). Store the product and battery pack in a location where the temperature will not exceed 122 °F (50 °C). This is important to prevent serious damage to the battery cells.
• Place the charger on a non-flammable surface and away from flammable materials when re-charging the battery pack.
• To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from the outlet before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
• If operating time has become excessively shorter, stop operating immediately. It may result in a risk of overheating, possible burns and even an explosion.
• Battery leakage may occur under extreme usage or temperature conditions. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If liquid comes in contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap and water. If liquid gets into your eyes, wash them out with clear water for at least 10 minutes, and then seek medical attention right away.
• Do not attempt to use a step-up transformer, an engine generator or a DC power receptacle.
• Do not short the battery pack. Do not touch the terminal with any conductive material. Avoid storing battery packs in a container with other metal objects such as nails, coins, etc. Always protect the battery terminals when the battery pack is not used.
• Do not charge a battery pack inside a box or container of any kind. The battery must be placed in a well-ventilated area during charging.
• Do not allow anything to cover or clog the charger vents.
• Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged or is completely worn out. The battery pack can explode in a fire.
• Disconnect the charger from the power source when not in use. This will reduce the of isk toofto electrical or damage to the charger if metal pieces should fall into the opening. It also will help prevent damage to the charger during a power surge.

WARNING:
A battery short can cause a large current flow, overheating, possible burns and even a breakdown.

ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS

WARNING:
Always be sure that the product is switched off and the battery is disconnected before adjusting, adding accessories, or checking a function on the product.

INSTALLING WIRE GUARD AND SAFETY GUARD (FIG 2)

1. Install the wire guard (13) through the grooves (G1) on both sides of the motor head as shown in FIG 2. Make sure the wire guard snugly fits into grooves.
2. Slide the safety guard through the grooves (G2) on the motor head as far as it can go. Align the screw holes (S2) on the safety guard with the screw holes (S3) on the motor head.
3. Tighten two screws (S1) through screw holes (S2, S3) to secure the safety guard.

INSTALLING EDGER SUPPORT WHEEL (FIG 3)

• Attach the edger support wheel on the motor head as shown in FIG 3. Align screw holes S4 with S5.
• Tighten 2 screws through screw holes (S4, S5) to secure the edger support wheel in place.

INSTALLING AND ADJUSTING AUXILIARY HANDLE (FIG 4,5)

To Install the Auxiliary Handle (FIG 4)

1. Attach the auxiliary handle (3) to the handle base (3a) as shown in FIG 4. Make sure the handle engages with the indented surfaces on both sides of the base.
2. Insert the bolt (3b) completely through the handle and handle base.
3. Tighten the locking knob (3c) to firmly secure the auxiliary handle in place.

To Adjust the Auxiliary Handle (FIG 5)

1. Loosen the locking knob (3c).
2. Adjust the auxiliary handle up or down to your desired position.
3. Tighten the locking knob to secure the auxiliary handle.

ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT (FIG 6)

CAUTION:
Adjust the height of the trimmer to obtain the working position before using it.

To Adjust the Height of the Trimmer, loosen the shaft coupler (6) by turning it clockwise as shown in FIG 6, move the shaft (7) up or down to the desired height, then tighten the coupler by turning it counterclockwise.

ADJUSTING THE MOTORHEAD (FIG 7)

The motor head can be tilted in four positions for user comfort and various applications (refer to FIG 7-A). To tilt the motor head, press and hold the head tilting locking button (9), tilt the head to one of four optional positions, and then release the locking button. The motor head can also be rotated in three positions to switch between trimmer and edger functions (refer to FIG 7-B, C). To rotate the head, press and hold the head rotating locking button (8), then rotate the head to the desired position for your application. The middle position is for trimming (B), while the left and right positions are for edging (C).

INSTALLING AND REMOVING THE BATTERY PACK (FIG 8)

• To install the battery pack, slide the battery pack into the bottom of the main handle until it locks in place with a click, as shown in FIG 8. Lightly pull on the battery to ensure it is locked into place and will not accidentally fall out of the tool, causing an injury.
• To remove the battery pack, pull the battery away from the tool while depressing the battery locking tab (5a).

OPERATION

• WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injuries, read and follow all important safety warnings and instructions before using this product.
• WARNING: Always be sure that the product is switched off before insertion or removal of the battery pack.

CHARGING THE BATTERY (FIG 9)

NOTE:
Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.

• Plug the charger (11) into a 120 Volt AC power source. The green indicator light on the charger will illuminate, confirming it is powered.
• Connect the charger to the battery pack (5) as shown in FIG 9. The red light on the charger will illuminate, indicating that the battery is charging. Meanwhile, the power indicator lights (5b) on the battery pack will flash, indicating the charging status.
• All three indicator lights will turn solid green once charging is complete.
• It is normal for the battery pack to become warm while charging.
• If the battery pack is hot after continuous use in the tool, allow it to cool down to room temperature before charging. This will extend the life of your batteries.

NOTE:
It takes approximately 80 minutes to charge up a completely discharged 2.0Ah battery pack.

BATTERY POWER INDICATOR (FIG 9)
There is a battery power indicator on the battery pack. It has three green lights (5b). Depress the power indicator button (5c) on the side to check the battery power level. When all three lights illuminate, it indicates the battery is at full power. The battery is at half full power when two lights illuminate. When one light illuminates only, it indicates that the battery is at a low power level and requires immediate charging.

WARNING:
Always disconnect the battery pack from the product or place the switch in the locked or Off position before any assembly, adjustments or changing accessories.

STARTING AND STOPPING THE TRIMMER

• To Start the Trimmer, press the lock-off button (2-FIG 1) and squeeze the trigger switch (1-FIG 1).
• To Stop the Trimmer, release the trigger switch.

CAUTION:
Always allow a few seconds for the cutting line spool to stop rotating after releasing the trigger switch. Do not invert the trimmer/edger or place your hands under the guard until the trimmer/edger spool has come to a complete stop.

CUTTING LINE AND FEEDING (FIG 10)
This trimmer uses a 0.065″ (1.65mm) diameter nylon line. During use, the tips of the cutting lines will become frayed and worn. You may feed the cutting lines by either Auto-Feed or Manual-Feed.

CAUTION:
Do not bump the trimmer onthe  ground in attempt to feed line or for any other purposes.

Feeding the Cutting Line Automatically

• When initially switching on the trimmer, a small length of line is fed out. Each time the trimmer is started, the line will advance about 1/4″.
• You will hear a ‘clattering’ noise when the lines hit the line cutter (L3). This is normal. After a few seconds, the line will be cut to the correct length and the noise will reduce as the motor gains full speed. If the noise of the line being cut can’t be heard, more lines will need to be fed out. To feed more lines, stop the trimmer completely; then restart it, allowing the motor to reach full speed. Repeat above until you hear the line hitting against the line cutter.

Feeding the Cutting Line Manually (FIG 10)
If required, the cutting line can be fed out manually.

1. Turn off the trimmer and remove the battery.
2. Press and release the manual line feed button (L2).
3. Gently pull out the line (LRepeatpehe steps 2 and 3 until the cutting line is long enough to reach the line cutter.

NOTE:
If too much line is fed out, remove the spool cap (16-FIG 1) and turn the spool counterclockwise until the line is at the desired length.

SPOOL REPLACEMENT (FIG 11)
For optimal performance, use the genuine Genesis replacement spool GASTS165 or GASTS165-2.

1. Remove the battery pack.
2. Push in tabs (T1) on both sides of the spool cap (16) and remove the spool cap.
3. Remove the old spool.
4. To install the new spool (15), make sure the line is captured in the two slots on the top of the spool.
5. Thread the line through the eyelet (E1) before installing the new spool in the place.
6. Pull the line extending from the line head and release the line from the slots in the spool.
7. Reinstall the spool cap by depressing tabs into slots and pushing down until the spool cap clicks into place.

LINE REPLACEMENT (FIG 12)

1. Remove the battery.
2. Remove the spool from the line head.
3. Remove any old line remaining on the spool.
4. Cut a piece of line approximately 20 ft. long. Use only a 0.065″ diameter round or twisted line.
5. Insert one end of the new line into the hole in the centre column of the spool (refer to FIG 12-A), then wind the line around the spool in the direction as shown on the spool. See FIG 12-B.
6. Leave approximately 4″ of the line unwound and secure the line by using the slots (L4).
7. Make sure to wind the line neatly and in layers. Do not crisscross. After winding the line, there should be at least 1/4″ between the wound line and the outside edge of the spool.
8. Replace the spool and the spool cap. Refer to Spool Replacement in this manual.

APPLICATIONS

USING THE TRIMMER
Follow these tips when using the trimmer.

• Hold the trimmer with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the auxiliary handle.
• Keep a firm grip with both hands while in operation.
• The trimmer should be held at a comfortable position with the rear handle about hip height.
• Allow the trimmer to reach its full speed before cutting grass.
• Maintain a cutting angle of 5° to 10°.
• Cut tall grass from the top down. This will prevent grass from wrapping around the boom housing and string head which may cause damage from overheating.
• If the grass becomes wrapped around the string head, remove the battery and then remove the grass.

WARNING:
Always hold the string trimmer away from the body, keeping clearance between the body and the string trimmer. Any contact with the string trimmer cutting head while operating can result in serious personal injury.

CUTTING TIPS (FIG 11)

• Keep the trimmer tilted toward the area being cut, this is the best cutting area.
• The trimmer cuts when passing the unit from left to right. This will avoid throwing debris at the operator.
• Avoid cutting in the dangerous area shown in FIG 11.
• Use the tip of the line to do the cutting; do not force the string head into uncut grass.
• Wire and picket fences cause extra line wear, even breakage. Stone and brick walls, curbs, and wood may wear line rapidly.

EDGING (FIG 12)
This trimmer can be easily converted to the edger mode.

1. Remove the battery pack.
2. Press the head rotation locking button (8) and hold.
3. Rotate the motor head 90° clockwise.
4. Release the locking button mother the or head (12) in the edger position.

WARNING:
Never stand directly in the path of the cutting line while edging. Always stand to the left of the grass deflector to avoid thrown debris, which could result in serious personal injury.

MAINTENANCE

CLEANING
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

WARNING:
Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc., come in contact with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken or destroy plastic which may result in serious personal injury.

Electric products used on fiberglass material, wallboard, spackling compounds, or plaster are subject to accelerated wear and possible premature failure because the fiberglass chips and grindings are highly abrasive to bearings, brushes, commutators, etc. Consequently, we do not recommend using this product for extended work on these types of materials. However, if you do work with any of these materials, it is extremely important to clean the product using compressed air.

LUBRICATION
This product is permanently lubricated at the factory and requires no additional lubrication.

TWO-YEAR WARRANTY

This product is warranted free from defects in material and workmanship for 2 years after the date of purchase. This limited warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or damage from neglect or accident. The original purchaser is covered by this warranty and it is not transferable.
