General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING!

Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term „power tool“ used in the safety instructions refers to low-voltage operated power tools (with mains connection) or battery-operated power tools (without mains connection).

1. Work area safety
2. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
3. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.  Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
4. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
5. Electrical safety
6. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body has contact with the ground.
7. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
8. Personal safety
9. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or un-der the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
10. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
11. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
12. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
13. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
14. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
15. If dust and smoke extraction can be installed, they must be connected and used properly. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
16. Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
17. Power tool use and care
18. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
19. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
20. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
21. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
22. Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
23. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
24. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
25. Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.
26. Service
    Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Safety information

WARNING Electrical shock

Protect yourself against electric shocks. Connecting the control unit incorrectly poses a risk of injury due to electric shock and can damage the device.
Carefully read the attached safety information, the safety information accompanying these operating instructions before putting the control unit into operation and observe the safety precautions specified therein.

• Only use the original power supply that came delivered with the WATC100.
• If the device is faulty, active electrical conductors may be bare or the PE conductor may not be functional.
• Repairs must always be referred to a Weller-trained specialist.
• If the electrical tool‘s power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced with a new power supply cord available through the customer service organization.t
• Protect yourself against electric shocks.
• Avoid touching earthed objects such as pipes, heaters, cookers and refrigerators.
• Do not use the soldering tool in a damp or wet environment.
• Never work on voltage-carrying parts.

CAUTION!
To provide continued protection against risk of electric shock, connect to properly grounded outlets only.

WARNING Risk of burns

• Risk of burns from the soldering tool while the control unit is operating. Tools may still be hot long after they have been switched off.
  • The soldering tip becomes very hot during soldering work.
  • There is a risk of burns from touching the tips.
  • After the soldering process, the soldering tool and the workpiece holder are still hot.
• Risk of burning through liquid solder. Protect yourself against solder splashes.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing to protect yourself against burns. Protect your eyes by wearing eye protection.
  • When working with adhesives, special attention must be paid to the warning information provided by the adhesive manufacturer.
• The power cable must only be plugged into the power socket or adapter approved for this purpose. Check to see if the mains voltage matches the ratings on the nameplate. Make sure the machine is switched off before plugging in.
• Only use the original power supply that came delivered with the WATC100
• Do not use the cable for purposes other than those for which it is intended. Do not use the cable to pull the plug out of the socket. Protect the cable against heat, oil and sharp edges.
• Be alert. Pay attention to what you are doing. Be smart when using the unit. Do not use the soldering tool if you are having difficulty concentrating.
• Avoid abnormal posture. Arrange your work station in an ergonomically correct way. Avoid bad posture when using the unit, as this can lead to postural problems. The soldering tool must be operated only in perfect technical working order.
• Safety devices must not be deactivated. Faults and defects must be repaired immediately.
• Before using the unit / tool, safety devices must be carefully checked to make sure that they are functioning properly and in the manner intended.
• Check that moving parts are functioning properly and are not sticking, and whether parts are damaged. All parts must be correctly fitted and must satisfy all the requirements necessary to guarantee trouble free operation of the unit.
• Use the correct tool. Use only accessories or auxiliary devices which are included in the list of accessories or approved for use by the manufacturer. Use WELLER accessories or auxiliary devices on original WELLER equipment only.
• Secure the tool. Use clamping fixtures to hold the workpiece.
• Use a solder fume extraction unit. If appliances for connecting solder fume extraction units are available, ensure that they are connected and used properly.

Soldering

• Please be sure to read and follow the operating instructions for your Weller Supply Unit.
• Use only original Weller soldering tips!

Handling the soldering tips

• Make sure that the soldering tip is well coated with solder during breaks between soldering work and prior to storage of the device.
• Do not use aggressive fluxing agents.
• Select as low a working temperature as possible.
• Coat the tip with solder prior to storage if you do not intend to use the soldering iron for an extended period of time.
• This device may only be used at room temperature and indoors.
• Protect against moisture and direct sunlight.

Notes on operation, Care and maintenance

WARNING
Before doing any work on the machine, pull the plug out of the socket.

• Check all connected cables on a regular basis.
• If power tools are damaged, they must be immediately removed from use.
• Repairs must always be referred to a Weller-trained specialist.
• Use original replacement parts only.

WARNING
Do not place anything other than soldering tips into the tip cleaner to avoid risk of injury or damage to the product.

• External Power Supply:
  Mount plug type appropriate for your region by slipping into the power adapter until the plug clicks in.

• Power On:
  Brush light will be lit dimly.

• Automatically in Sensor mode. – Indicator light glows blue -:
  In Sensor Mode, unit will automatically start when the sensors detect an object near the opening. The brushes will start rotating and the light will brighten. The brushes will stop rotating and the light will dim when no object is detected by the sensors.

• Continuous Mode – Indicator light glows purple -:

  • When pressed, brush light will turn on brightly and brushes will rotate continuously.
  • To end, press once Sensor mode button or Power button. Unit reverts to sensor mode. Brushes and light will brighten only when sensor detects a tip near the opening.

• Changing brushes:

  • Lift front housing to expose brushes.
  • To remove- Push in two black buttons located at the bottom of the brush and pull brush assembly away from the motor and dispose of properly.
  • To replace- Push in two black buttons located at the bottom of the brush and slide onto motor spindle. Release buttons and assure that the brush is securely locked onto the motor spindle.
  • Close front housing securely.

• Cleaning debris tray

  • It is recommended to empty the tray after approximately every 1000 cycles.
  • Lift front housing to expose tray.
  • Carefully pull out tray from housing. Dispose the contents of the tray properly and wipe out tray as necessary.
  • Return tray to housing making sure it is properly seated.
  • Close front housing securely.

Instructions for use

• Insert soldering tools into the unit for approx. 1 second to clean the tips.
• If the tips are too oxidised or contaminated with excessive residues to be properly cleaned by the ATC, the use of a tip cleaner or tip replacement is recommended.
• Before starting, check the condition of the brushes in the appliance and make sure that the tray is emptied.
• When you change the brushes or empty the tray, it is a good idea to clean the sensor window and LED to continue to get the best operation.
• An ESD discharge can cause the device to fail. In this case, the device must be restarted by the user.

Warranty

• Claims by the buyer for physical defects are time-barred after a period of one year from delivery to the buyer. This does not apply to claims by the buyer for indemnification in accordance with §§ 478, 479 BGB (German Federal Law Gazette).
• We shall only be liable for claims arising from a warranty furnished by us if the quality or durability warranty has been furnished by use in writing and using the term „Warranty“.
• The warranty shall be void if damage is due to improper use and if the device has been tampered with by unauthorized persons.
