Product Usage Instructions
Safety Instructions
- Follow all safety precautions mentioned in the user manual to prevent accidents and injuries.
Connection
- The Weller DSX 80 antistatic can be connected to all electronically controlled WELLER soldering devices with 80 W connection technology.
- Connection to weaker power devices is prevented by a special 7-pin plug construction.
Startup
- Ensure the blinking or steady light indicators on the device correspond to the desired temperature for proper operation.
- The suction process is activated by pressing the finger switch.
- When soldering, ensure the suction nozzle is vertical to the board level.
- The solder should be completely liquid (especially crucial for through-plated circuit boards) before moving the soldering iron in a circular motion.
- If solder is not completely removed after suctioning (usually due to incorrect airflow with a tilted suction nozzle or inadequate heating), the soldering tip must be tinned again before re-soldering.
- Regularly returning extends the lifespan of the suction nozzles.
Replacement and Cleaning:
- Replace and clean the suction nozzle only when hot. Use the cleaning tool to clean the suction nozzle bore and suction tube.
- For heavy dirt deposits in the cone area, use the cleaning element (T005 87 067 94) for the heating cone to remove the deposits.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q: Where can I find updated operating instructions for the DSX 80?
- A: You can find the updated operating instructions at www.weller-tools.com.
Q: How do I know when to replace the suction nozzle?
- A: Replace the suction nozzle only when hot and if there are heavy dirt deposits in the cone area that prevent a new nozzle from being inserted.
- Always place the soldering tool in the safety rest while not in use.
Safety instructions
- The manufacturer assumes no liability for uses other than those described in the operating instructions or for unauthorized alterations.
- These operating instructions and safety instructions should be read carefully and kept in an easily visible location in the vicinity of the soldering iron.
- Non-observance of these safety instructions can result in accidents, injury, or health risks.
- Caution, risk of burns!
- Even after switch-off or removal, the suction tip needs some time to cool down.
- Always place desoldering tools not in use in the original holder.
- Do not place any flammable objects near the hot desoldering tool.
- Antistatic plastics are treated with conducting material to prevent static charging.
- This reduces the insulation properties of the plastic.
- Work must not be performed on parts that are powered.
Connection
- The Weller DSX 80 antistatic can be connected to all electronically regulated desoldering equipment with 80 W connectors.
- To avoid the connection to any less powerful control unit, the DS 80 is equipped with a special 7-pin plug.
DSX 80
- Heating power: 80 W / 24 V~
- Heating resistance: 6,2 ohm
- Heating-up time: ~ 80 sec. from 50°C – 350°C
- Field of activity: 270°C – 450°C
- DSX 80: conical fastening system
- Wrench size: 8 mm
Starting operation
- Place the desoldering iron into the safety holder and connect the 7-pin arresting plug to the socket at the front of the unit. Put vacuum tube to connection nipple of the main filter.
- Switch on the unit. Set the temperature to 300°C. The light-emitting diode for the visual check on regulation illuminates.
- Intermittent light means that the selected temperature has been reached.
- No lumination means that the actual temperature is higher than the selected temperature.
- Continuous lumination means that the system heats – the actual temperature is below the set temperature.
- The suction process starts by actuating the finger switch.
- When desoldering it should be observed that the suction tip is held vertically to the circuit board surface.
- The solder must be completely fluid (very important in the case of circuit boards with contact through holes).
- Suck up the solder in a single operation while circularly moving the connection pin of the component within the hole.
- If the solder is not completely removed after the sucking operation (mostly caused by air-entrance through inclined suction nozzles or by inadequate heating-up) the soldering joint should be tinned before desoldering.
- Regular re-tinning increases the lifetime of tiplets.
Adaption Possibility for Left-Handers
- By detaching the 4 flange screws (see page 47) the desoldering iron can be twisted against the handle by 120°.
- As soon as the screws are removed, only turn the desoldering iron but do not draw out of the handle as this could damage the heating element.
- After twisting the desoldering iron by 120°, fasten the flange screws. Now the desoldering iron is ready for use with the left hand.
Cleaning, maintenance DSX 80
- To achieve good desoldering results it is important to clean the desoldering head regularly. This includes emptying the solder collecting container, replacing the glass tube filter, as well as checking the seals.
- Correct sealing of the front faces of the glass cylinder ensures full suction performance. Dirty filters affect the air flow rate through the desoldering tool.
- Various suction nozzles solve many desoldering problems. A suitable tool for changing the suction nozzle is integrated into the cleaning tool (T005 13 500 99).
- The suction nozzles can be straightforwardly and quickly changed using a short rotational movement (approx. 45°C).
- When inserting and locking the suction nozzle, press gently against the heater element.
- Only change and clean suction nozzles when hot. To clean the suction nozzle bore and the suction tube, use the cleaning tool.
- In the case of heavy deposits of dirt in the cone area, it is not possible to insert a new suction nozzle.
- These deposits can be removed using the cleaning insert (T005 87 067 94) for the heater element cone.

Repair of Defects
- Defect: Desoldering iron does not heat.
- Trouble Shooting: Disconnect the iron from the power supply and check with the ohmmeter at the plug.
Pin
- Heater DS 80 = 6,2 ohm
- 4. Sensor 22 ohm
- Potential balance zero ohm against tip ground
- Finger switch – operated zero ohm
- Encoder pin for 80 Watt tools
- If the sensor or heater is interrupted remove the cap of the finger switch, detach 3 flange screws, and pull out the heating element.
- Check the sensor and heater at the terminal once more. If there is any interruption replace the heating element.
- Subject to technical alterations and amendments!
- See the updated operating instructions at www.weller-tools.com.
